The purpose of these threads is to allow survivors of childhood sexual abuse, their partners, friends, or parents, to talk in a safe place about what they think and feel. Nothing is off limits or taboo, just say what you want to say.

Hello everyone, I was directed here after making a thread about the abuse I suffered in childhood here I feel so weird to have talked about it (even just virtually) but I am determined to deal with it and feel better.

CailinDana · 17/06/2012 17:13

Hi Swan, glad you joined the thread. How's it going?

Getupgo, sorry if you mentioned it already and I missed it but are you a namechanged regular or are you new? Just so I can keep track :)

CailinDana · 17/06/2012 17:34

How are you feeling at the moment dotty?

OP posts:
dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 17:40

Still not great keep hitting the wall going to try to see my usual dr this week I know 'my issues' are on my notes but not something I want to discuss with other drs however great they all are.

OlympicMarathonNCer · 17/06/2012 17:50

Seeing the same gp is normally suggested as notes are just notes and sometimes need explaining.

Is the gp good/understanding?

dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:04

Olympic its the fact its on the screen she asked my permission to document it never been asked that ever she's fab really has gone above and beyond to help me through but was so well last time I saw her as well.[Sad]

SwanFace · 17/06/2012 18:05

OK thanks Cailin :) I feel less emotional today and bizarrely like I want to forget it all again. It's hard to keep the momentum going but I'm definitely going to see my GP this week for a referral for counselling.

dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:10

Swan I don't know your story but you don't need to go to GP for counselling rape crisis are fantastic when the shit hit the fan so to speak I had a brilliant support worker there she was actually a PTSD counseller so was well suited to me.

OlympicMarathonNCer · 17/06/2012 18:25

Dotty, mines all documented on my notes so I don't have to go through explaining myself all the time.

Swan, dips and turns are really common, good that you want to deal with it and Dotty's right, rape crisis are brilliant and often more specialised than nhs councelling, although I have nhs and she's been brilliant, it just took 18months which was way too long.

Have you looked at the rape crisis website?

SwanFace · 17/06/2012 18:27

Thanks dotty. I had a look at my local rape crisis centre site and there is a waiting list for counselling which is 3 months long! I will give them a call tomorrow to get the ball rolling, I think I get a first appointment then referred for the waiting list.

I still feel a bit unsure about telling my GP as I don't feel like I really want it on my medical records, I would rather it was more anonymous I think. Plus it will probably take just as long!

dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:33

Swan I don't know if the fact I'd done a disclosure meant I was seen immediately couldn't be sure as DC referred me she actually mentioned them before she took me up to video suite.

dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:34

As I say nowadays a good GP will ask if you want it on your notes if your not comfortable ask them not to document it.

CailinDana · 17/06/2012 18:36

Yeah NHS counselling tends to be very slow unfortunately. I asked for it but never got it in the two years I was waiting.

I was meaning to ask actually - with NHS counselling, once you've had your six sessions is that it? Or is there the potential to have more if you need it?

OP posts:
dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:39

My sister had her sessions how ever many then had to have a 3 month break

CailinDana · 17/06/2012 18:39

Why was that dotty?

OP posts:
dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:39

I was refused NHS counselling

dottyspotty2 · 17/06/2012 18:40

No idea its just how it works there

CailinDana · 17/06/2012 18:45

Why were you refused NHS counselling dotty?
