If not read it. It gives the inaccurate impression that I read fiction. I don't, but I do love this book. Also the edible bride by the same author.

Olympic there was also a film made about it hard to explain really in an apocalyptic world where few fertile remain all the influential people are allowed a 'handmaid' for the husband to hopefully have a child with wrong on all sides.

I'm excessively fertile, it is a blessing and a curse. I identify with the book.

In my mind it was legalised rape in that book, I have 3 children one was on the pill with our surprise and one lost [wasn't mean't to be]

You know feminism has widely past me by. Although people here and in rl refer to me as a feminist.

I've always thought of women as being just as good as men, I'm into science and technology etc and can change a plug etc

My family always derided me for being a feminist incapable of treating a man right.

nowhere Olympic used to have another name but was boring and I left when the shit hit the fan and couldn't cope so wasn't allowed to use it again

The earths children series by Jean M Auel is kind of set in a matriarchal/equal society, the lead female is raped in childhood, evicted from her family, survives on her own and finds a new family. I relate to her a lot but was disappointed with the last book.

There's a fair bit of sex in them though but I tend to skip those parts!

It has started me off researching the demise of women in religion though which I'm enjoying researching.
