Hello, welcome to thread five!! Smile

I'm Mouse and I'm 10 whole days sober which is bloody amazing given that I would normally consume nearly 90 units per week! And that's without 'special occasions'!! Shock

So, if I can do it, you can do it! The support here is awesome, no matter where you are in your quest to quit. No judging, no cliquey groups.

We are just real, honest people. All helping each other to give up the booze. Come meet the other Brave Babes........................

And for those who would like to read the adventures so far, here are the links from the first four threads!

JWN's original thread (the reason we are all here)

Hello everyone.

Day 7 here Hooray! Despite no alcohol I woke up with a horrible headache this morning - still anadin and a bike ride in the woods with children and dog sorted me out.

I am realised today that the 'January' that I didn't drink was 2 and a half years ago and since then I have probably had only odd nights of no alcohol. It is quite shocking to realise. I think even as I decided to try and not drink for a few nights, I was still trying to convince myself that I was on top of things.

It is good to be here on day 7, a little frightening and a little exciting at the same time.

Keep safe everyone.

Mouseface · 15/08/2010 20:57

Hello pavalova

It's very EEEEEKKKKKK! in the early days!

Your body will take a while to get used to the continuous absence of alcohol. So you'll feel a bit flu like and achey. That's normal. As are very vivid or weird dreams.

Try and get yourself into a relaxing evening routine now you aren't squeezing that one last drink in before bed.

Warm bath, hot chocolate, good book, a bit of a sheet shuffle with DH/P if you have one........ just something other than alcohol to help you unwind.

Well done and keep going!! Lovely to have you aboard the Battle Bus!!

Smile

a sheet shuffle!!! you naughty girl!! Grin

pavalova · 15/08/2010 21:09

Grin at the sheet shuffle!!

I do seem to feel quite weary but I am sleeping like the dead with no weird dreams as yet.

My evenings have changed a bit, for once my ironing is up to date, my nails are filed, toenails painted and legs waxed. I have had bitter lemon when dh is having his wine or a decaf coffee. I have some really good books lined up and a good one on the go. In fact many of the tips I have read others doing.

It is great to have this thread to come to and thank you for the support. I am a fish out of water at the moment but most of me wants things to be different.

Hope you have a lovely break this week and well done for your continuing success.

Mouseface · 15/08/2010 21:23

Thank you Pavalova

I will miss the thread and it wil be hard not to drink but I'll do it!!!! A day at a time!!!

No doubt they will think that I'm 'expecting' until I put them straight, which I will, because BIL is cool and doesn't wear judgey pants!! And, in actual fact, I'm at the point where I wouldn't care if he did.

I am an alcoholic.

Anyway, time to say goodnight.

Back for a fleeting visit in the morning.

Night Babes.

pav, your evenings sound very much like mine, i am amazed at how much i fit in now, i find that i can read a book again (my concentration was shot), i sew, cook, read, chat on the phone, in fact, i rarely watch tv now, just too busy - i am off to bed in a mo with a cup of tea, the sunday papers and classic fm - lovley end to a good weekend and im sober! Grin, no hangover in the morning, no dragging myself out of bed feeling like crap. its great!

jesuswhatnext · 15/08/2010 21:30

night mouse!! sleep well - btw, a day at a time, even on holiday!! have a good time!!

L xxxxxxxxxxx

pavalova · 15/08/2010 21:37

It is a more productive time now isn't it? When I used to read in bed, I would come back the next night read a few pages before realising that I had already read that bit. Books took AGES!

Enjoy the papers JWN, goodnight Mouse and everyone else :)

venusandmars · 15/08/2010 21:56

Mouse, only you could "eeeekk" like that. And you made me laugh out loud at the "sheet shuffle". Too bad dh is not back yet.

Pav, I so agree with the book reading. Even when pretty drunk I would read in bed - until the book fell on the floor.

JWN, you sound as though you are in a good place. How wonderful.

Hope everyone else is having a quiet and peaceful evening.

PS Mouse, is that the first time that I have seen you type that you are an alcoholic? It felt like a very powerful acknowledgement for me.

gettingwrinkly · 15/08/2010 22:52

Does anyone else think thst bitter lemon smells (and tastes) like washing-up liquid?

gettingwrinkly · 15/08/2010 22:55

PS I'm exremely bored - can't motivate myself to paint nails/do ironing /redecorate - just being playing online patience - saddo!!!

gettingwrinkly · 15/08/2010 22:56

"Been" even - I did have good grammar once!

venusandmars · 15/08/2010 23:09

wrinkly, bored and boring is fine. Just fine.

No need to do anything except be kind to yourself.

venusandmars · 15/08/2010 23:21

Mouse - a message for your holiday (if you're on here before you go).... I have a secret MIFLAW that I take with me when I am away from here (although to be truthful, it is more than MIF, it is JWN and Moomin and loads of other who have made wise posts, or clever sentences or really meaningful words).

I have combined them all into a "what would Brave Babes do?" mantra, so that if I find myself making excuses for how 'unfair' things are, or how I 'deserve' a drink, or 'just one Hmm' etc... then I imagine what everyone one here would say when they were being at their strongest, most uncompromising, most persuasive. And it has helped me though many a wobble when I have not had direct access to this site.

So, a really big THANK YOU to all who contribute here in whatever way. You all help me. Every day.

Morning this bus is empty! I have just had a lovely weekend, nothing special a bit of gardening, time with DH a run. Last night I was thinking how the simple things in life can bring so much pleasure, which made me wonder what it was I ever was searching for in that bottle of wine?
Whatever it was it was false, where as this weekend felt real and peaceful and lovely Smile

MissPerrier · 16/08/2010 08:37

Actually I say a bit of gardening, I can barely walk this morning!Shock

jesuswhatnext · 16/08/2010 09:04

missp - that is a very true sentence, what were we looking for in that bottle? i have found a peace and contentment i never thought possible WITHOUT that bottle!

must go, really busy for the next few hours, stay safe lovley babes!!

TODAY WE WILL NOT BE DRINKING!!

TrinityRhino · 16/08/2010 09:25

Morning all Babes who are on the bus, following the bus, or thinking that a ride on the bus would be a good idea.

Morning Trinity, JWN and MissP. Hope you are having a happy monday.

RedMoomin · 16/08/2010 09:42

Good morning Babes!

It's lovely to be back after missing the whole weekend.
Pav - lovely to welcome you on board.
Christi and wrinkly - no worries about what has happened, deep breaths and start again.
mouse - loved the sheet shuffle comment and, like venus said, it was a big moment seeing the word 'alcoholic' in your post. I wasn't sure if I had seen it previously either.
maddogs - well done getting through the dinner without picking up.
JWN - congrats on 11 weeks!!
trinity - good morning to you and well done on day 7.
wasindie - how's things?? Saw your post in the wee small hours!
venus - hello lovely!

To everyone else - a big happy, sober morning to you all! (As always I have not taken notes so if I have missed you out I am sorry!)

venusandmars · 16/08/2010 09:45

Hello cid and welcome. Day 1 is a good place to start. Just keep coming back here and posting if you feel your resolve weakening, or if you are feeling crap and need encouragement. Especially keep coming back and posting each time you manage a day without booze. We will all cheer for you (and cheer for ourselves too).

RedMoomin · 16/08/2010 09:45

Welcome cidre - plenty of room for more babes on the bus! It's a big step to acknowledge that there's a problem so well done! How old you your dc? Do you have a dp/dh or any other real life support?

Good morning MissP!

RedMoomin · 16/08/2010 09:47

*How old ARE your dc? (You'd think I'd been drinking!)

venusandmars · 16/08/2010 09:47

Hi moomin, did you have a good weekend?
