Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think people frequently miss their own weddings because of a morning quickie while in a plaster cast, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for title suggestions. I basically took @OverArmour's excellent suggestion and managed to shoehorn in snivelling simpleton, gloriously coined by @Eastie77Returns to refer to Lee in the first instance.

@WitcheryDivine suggested Recharging, Red Kites and The Man They Call Ron, is Ambridge becoming an earthly paradise or a hell on earth? which seems as good a place as any to kick off our discussions! Ron = Rob, a fortuitous typo on a previous thread. It does feel a bit as if we're marking time before he turns up again. Odd to do what could be a high profile storyline over the summer holidays when a lot of people will be away, but depending on your point of view, maybe that's a blessing!

Whither George? Is he shaping up to be Andrew Tate mark 2?

Everybody looking forward to Ferret Fun at the Fête? Me neither.

Over to you!

Have to say, George’s ‘Ed’ voice and intonation are hilarious. He strangely makes Ed sound like both Ed and a stereotypical floppy haired public schoolboy. (Not a real public schoolboy, just an imagined one.) It’s so weird but exaggeratedly accurate.

TheGander · 26/07/2023 18:17

@CurlewKate i think they’re lining up a humdinger of an episode where Ruth’s relaxed attitude to others’ same sex relationships is tested to the max when it involves her daughter.

BlueBlueCowWondering · 26/07/2023 19:55

So with Johnny gone it's all falling into place for George

Until it emerges that he helped and encouraged Henry to contact Rob. Then his 'one strike and you're out' employment status at Bridge Farm will be well and truly over. I hope.

Fink · 26/07/2023 20:31

I was pleased at least to hear Emma admit that he's a misogynist, or nearly.

It will make it easier to evict Johnny if he's not there.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/07/2023 21:05

Hannah might even feel unable to cover the whole rent all on her own and be quite happy to move out into the Valley Farm accommodation at Berrow which is supposed to come with her job.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/07/2023 21:52

The 🔮 is confident that Hannah will be moving in with Pip.

Also, Johnny is almost 25, why are the Bridge Farmers talking about him as if he was 11? They all infantilise each other so much!

AnneWhittle · 26/07/2023 22:10

maybe Henry will think better of it
its not like he will have fond memories

Does Hannah even know Pip?

TopOfTheCliff · 26/07/2023 22:40

Pip? She hasn’t got space at whatsit cottage with huge Rosie in there and only two bedrooms. Was the crystal ball perhaps thinking of Stella? Hannah hardly knows Pip as at as we know.

Twyford · 26/07/2023 22:41

There's nothing in the least sweet about George wanting to move in with Will, he's worked out that that's his best chance of persuading some mug to continue subsidising him. I really hope Will comes to his senses and says George can pay his bills.like anyone else who is working, and indeed that he's not going to give up his rental income to give George a free ride.

echt · 26/07/2023 22:47

If George gets to move in with Will, he won't pass up the opportunity to be unpleasant to Hannah about it.

Twyford · 26/07/2023 23:06

I'm wondering whether the thinking behind the Johnny SL is that he will be happy to give up his room leaving George free to move in with Hannah.

Eastie77Returns · 27/07/2023 00:11

Confused as to how George found Ron’s mobile number. Why and how would it be available to view “on social media”. I can’t think of a social platform that encourages users to display that kind of personal information to all and sundry.

Unless it was the number of the family business, in which case I would have expected a tech savvy 12 year old to have been able to find the that himself.

EBearhug · 27/07/2023 00:17

I'd have thought Rob would be quite careful about his decision media presence, too, like not have much presence at all.

Henry was wary of googling because Helechecks what he's been doing.

EBearhug · 27/07/2023 00:17

*Helen checks

JanglyBeads · 27/07/2023 00:20

And why does Henry want to contact Rob anyway? Didn't he give the impression earlier of being similarly agin him as his mother is?

I feel a bit sick about this development.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/07/2023 03:03

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/07/2023 22:35

The 🔮offers its apologies. It confused Hannah and Stella Blush
It says they look very similar though.

Bubbylana · 27/07/2023 06:29

So will silent Johnny be lost at sea?
Also why is an 18 year old( George ) hanging around with a 12 year old (Henry)?
Its a bit creepy if you ask me. Im surprised that nutty Helen let Henry go out at all, I thought she would have him locked in his bedroom till Rob/Ron passes on.
Also they can all get together and discuss Johnny but keep Fallon hanging?

CurlewKate · 27/07/2023 06:39

@Bubbylana Please don't call Helen "nutty". It's an insult to abused women, and contributes to an insidious narrative that they are somehow responsible for their own abuse.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/07/2023 07:19

George was taking his half-sister Keira (sp) to the skate park and kindly Hmm offered to take Henry along too because they are the same age. In reality he has spotted an opportunity to help a young lad get one over on his bossy interfering mother. He may have heard talk about Rob and probably sees him as a role model.

OP posts:
JanglyBeads · 27/07/2023 07:37

I second @CurlewKate : wouldn't any mother inHelen's position be similarly protective of her sons at this point?

Think you're right @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - although I wanted to know who was driving the van which Keira was apparently waiting in- George can't drive yet, can he, or have I missed that??

Bubbylana · 27/07/2023 07:46

I only said Helen was nutty as a made up person in a made up drama. I was not referring to anybody who has gone through this in real life.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/07/2023 07:49

George is 18 and grew up on a farm. I'd be amazed if he didn't learn to drive years ago. I can't remember any mention of a driving test.
