Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think people frequently miss their own weddings because of a morning quickie while in a plaster cast, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for title suggestions. I basically took @OverArmour's excellent suggestion and managed to shoehorn in snivelling simpleton, gloriously coined by @Eastie77Returns to refer to Lee in the first instance.

@WitcheryDivine suggested Recharging, Red Kites and The Man They Call Ron, is Ambridge becoming an earthly paradise or a hell on earth? which seems as good a place as any to kick off our discussions! Ron = Rob, a fortuitous typo on a previous thread. It does feel a bit as if we're marking time before he turns up again. Odd to do what could be a high profile storyline over the summer holidays when a lot of people will be away, but depending on your point of view, maybe that's a blessing!

Whither George? Is he shaping up to be Andrew Tate mark 2?

Everybody looking forward to Ferret Fun at the Fête? Me neither.

Over to you!

Love it, thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g and the Snivelling Simpletons addition!

Poppins2016 · 13/07/2023 18:57

Thread 150 - what a milestone!

stilldumdedumming · 13/07/2023 19:06

Thank you!

Eastie77Returns · 13/07/2023 19:10

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g I am genuinely honoured to have played a small part in the naming of an Archers Thread. This may well be the crowning achievement (aside from my children but not sure I can legitimately call them ‘my’ achievement) in what has thus far been an unremarkable life.

Bubbylana · 13/07/2023 19:19

Thanks for the new thread.
I hope Neil is not going to have a stroke if he needs a lie down. Susan knows what a sod George is but still sticks up for him and questions Neils decisions.
Emma is blind to George but it her mothers love to be honest. I think also she was enjoying him being at his Nannas and giving her alone time with her hubby.
Pip has got a big mouth and should keep all her thoughts to herself. She soon gave up the rewilding and left everyone in the lurch but thats not mentioned anymore. Thank god for Kirsty.(even though she is scared of gold fish.

faffadoodledo · 13/07/2023 19:25

Thanks for new thread.
With the disappearance first of Mustardland (that ages me) and then the official Archers FB page I've been a bit adrift.

JanglyBeads · 13/07/2023 19:31

What will Ron's diagnosis turn out to be?! Do we presume Rob thought the prognosis was worse than in fact it is?
Or could he have stormed out bc he's personally affronted by the idea of having epilepsy?

Surely, unless it was something requiring emergency / immediate treatment, the consultant would have tried hard to ring the patient first, not gone straight to 'next of kin'? Load of rubbish really.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/07/2023 19:32

Glad you've come to anchor here, @faffadoodledo!

Neil is 66, four years older than me. I don't work any more and I know if I did I'd be knackered by the end of the day, and I was only doing sedentary stuff. Neil is putting in long hours in a responsible job and spending a lot of it on his feet doing physical work, not to mention having to cope with the loathsome George. I salute him and I'm not surprised he needs a little lie down in the evening!

@Eastie77Returns, I'm sure you're underselling yourself there!

Bubbylana
I think also she was enjoying him being at his Nannas and giving her alone time with her hubby.

Alone with him apart from her just-adolescent daughter Keira, with whom she seems to have loud and unpleasant rows if we are to believe what has been reported by Ed on air.

Fleetress · 13/07/2023 20:07

Fantastic thread titling, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g!

(Well done to all contributors - especially The Remarkable @Eastie77Returns Grin)

It would be magnificent if Ed n Emma had baked a new Grundy while George was away! Too much to hope for I guess …

Whatifitallgoesright · 13/07/2023 20:14

@faffadoodledo Mustardland - that takes me back. I only occasionally come on here when I remember but I spent far too long on Mustardland while I was meant to be working. There was another board there I can't remember the title but it was a bit like Relationships here. I remember following one poster for ages who was trying to leave an abusive relationship. I wonder where they all are now. I was LilChaffinch and Underneaththearchers I think. I can't remember any previous names here but I think Mustard and the BBC religion and ethics boards stood out as early developments that had a real impact on people.

JanglyBeads · 13/07/2023 20:27

Yes amazing thread title!

Fleetress · 13/07/2023 20:30

Oh look - another involuntary name change. Hmm

I’m getting too old for this game …

I think that may have been a thread in The Village Hall. I believe the boards were called Discuss The Archers (formerly Current Storylines), Notes and Queries, Fantasy Archers, The Bull, The Bull Upstairs and The Village Hall. I too wasted spent a great deal of time there in days of yore. There are quite a few of us here now.

I feel very sorry for Neil. Emma and Sooosan ganging up on him in defence of gruesome George and the despair in his voice was horrible to hear. What are Ed and Will doing in all of this?

I noticed Pip used “partner” rather than boyfriend and “they” when talking about who she wanted to settle down with romantically the other day which Stella will have picked up on. But I suspect this is all leading up to a misunderstanding, Stella leaning in for a kiss over one of those bottles of red wine and Pip recoiling in horror…

Why didn’t Helen ask the doctor exactly what was wrong with Rob FGS, I’m dying to know (no pun intended)!

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/07/2023 21:02

With this title you have excelled yourself @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g ⭐️

Welcome to wandering Mustardlanders who have finally washed up on these shores, there's a few of us here!

Pretty sure Rob has a brain tumour and there is no way any doctor would have shared so much or put so much pressure on an ex spouse.

FallonsNewCoat · 13/07/2023 22:34

This is the best thread title for ages! Congratulations to all involved…

I know I cry pretty easily these days but the kindness on here moved me to tears. Thank you so much. House clearing is a tough old game - I should be more like Brian and just bag it all up with no ceremony. I wonder if Joy would like Dad’s old cords and sweaters.

echt · 13/07/2023 22:36

Thanks for the new thread, Gasp0de

Well, Helen is in a pickle of her own making, though no doubt blame will be thrown on Lee and Tom.

echt · 13/07/2023 22:47

@FallonsNewCoat when I was sorting out my late DH's clothes, I saw off his rather good work suits toot suite - they meant nothing, he couldn't wait to get out them at the end of the day - and I kept some special things. But bugger me I just couldn't get rid of the socks for years, no idea why. They've gone now and I only have the very good merino hiking ones that I use for dog walking in winter. Thinking of you in the house clearing.

CurlyTandtheTangles · 13/07/2023 22:51

I'm waiting to see if Stella makes a move on Pip or Ruth or both..

WitcheryDivine · 13/07/2023 22:56

Thanks for the spanking new thread.

I understand about the socks, I kept my granny’s and even wore some of them til they fell apart. Then it felt ok to let them go. Sure you need a few oversized jumpers right @FallonsNewCoat ? I’m so sorry for your loss.

Now look I have so many questions about this evening, let’s start with the most petty. What the flip were George and Brad EATING? It sounded like dry rusks. Second, where were they and why were they hanging out when they’ve been desperate to avoid each other. Third, why were Pip and David over at/working at Home Farm?
Why did Helen call Pip and Stella “girls” giving the impression they were younger when Stella sounds at least her age?

bonus for: why was Pip so horribly rude to Brian about fruit farming yesterday? No one asked you you little PITA.

OverArmour · 13/07/2023 23:00

@FallonsNewCoat house clearing and hard and sad work and you never know what’s going to ‘get’ you 💗

Ooh good thought @CurlyTandtheTangles ! I’m going for Ruth and Stella in a ‘surprising even themselves’ clinch and then Pip unknowingly throwing herself at Stella and getting rebuffed.

echt · 13/07/2023 23:13

I agree that's definitely something in the offing in all this sudden focus on the women getting on so well.

CurlyTandtheTangles · 13/07/2023 23:20

Ummm I'm very alert to walk up Lakey Hill with Stella and an Archer.
