Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think people frequently miss their own weddings because of a morning quickie while in a plaster cast, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for title suggestions. I basically took @OverArmour's excellent suggestion and managed to shoehorn in snivelling simpleton, gloriously coined by @Eastie77Returns to refer to Lee in the first instance.

@WitcheryDivine suggested Recharging, Red Kites and The Man They Call Ron, is Ambridge becoming an earthly paradise or a hell on earth? which seems as good a place as any to kick off our discussions! Ron = Rob, a fortuitous typo on a previous thread. It does feel a bit as if we're marking time before he turns up again. Odd to do what could be a high profile storyline over the summer holidays when a lot of people will be away, but depending on your point of view, maybe that's a blessing!

Whither George? Is he shaping up to be Andrew Tate mark 2?

Everybody looking forward to Ferret Fun at the Fête? Me neither.

Over to you!

When I heard it, I thought “that’s why George wants Will there”

I don't think George is clued up enough about the legal side to have thought of that, he just wants to make sure he doesn't have to pay for anything!

It’s two months notice. And then, even under the accelerated process, the tenant can stay beyond that point while the landlord petitions for eviction via court. The tenant sends a defence form and, if they don’t dispute any of the basic facts, waits for the court to issue them with a final date by which to leave. And then if the tenant doesn’t leave bailiffs are sent in to remove them. Round here the whole process is currently taking at least 4 months.

Let’s see if the SWs get any of this right …

I used to be a CAB adviser, and sometimes shouted at the radio "What About Benefits." I once even worked out what minimum income the Grundys must have if they were Not Eligible for Family Credit (I think).

Possibly a tad overinfested? but you know that already

echt · 25/07/2023 22:53

I love that George has already indicated his complete disinclination to cook.

Does the other SL indicate love under canvas in the offing, though Rosie will have to be plot-twisted off the scene. Hang on, she's the reason the camping's happening. Gah.

TheUsualChaos · 25/07/2023 22:55

George knows he's well and truly burnt his bridges with Ed and so he can't stay with them as he won't keep getting away everything anymore, especially now even Emma has had her eyes opened. So he's going to focus on keeping Will on his side and therefore paying his way for him. He's a crafty sod.

Fleetress · 26/07/2023 04:38

They’ve definitely hung a big sign above that eventuality, @echt!

I know we can’t have ‘Tented Love’ as a thread title …

Fleetress · 26/07/2023 04:41

Although … Do the SWs really want Pip to steal Ruairi’s bunting?

I mean, it looks as if they do …

Fleetress · 26/07/2023 05:59

(Sorry!) Farming Today is at the Royal Welsh Show. It would have been good to have an Ambridge farmer there. Surely the SWs could have invented a reason?

BeatriceBatchelor · 26/07/2023 06:52

I think it's quite sweet that George wants to house share with his dad.

No more feeling humiliated because he lives in a trailer with his mum who's married to his dad's brother.. Presumably Poppy will live at No.1 too.

Can't imagine Will earns much delivering for Bridge Farm and will miss the rental income.

Maybe just a snog by the campfire while Rosie is asleep in the tent.

Brefugee · 26/07/2023 07:44

I think it's quite sweet that George wants to house share with his dad.

It is because he wants everything paid for, all the cooking & cleaning done etc.

Bonus for him that it gets Hannah out

Ambridge · 26/07/2023 07:55

I know we can’t have ‘Tented Love’ as a thread title …

LOLOLOL

Quite sweet that George wants to share a home with his dad? Er, nope, he wants to show Hannah who's the boss. Big time. That’s his number 1 motivation if you ask me.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/07/2023 08:24

I agree. It’s all about Hannah.

euroseb11 · 26/07/2023 08:25

It'd be funny if somewhere down the line, peobably Christmas, George develops a crush on Hannah (like he did on Fallon) and all his misogyny is just hiding his secret admiration for strong independent women XD But i think they've already played the 'older women younger man' narrative with Ruairi's story.
But yeah, only left is for George to continue alienating othere around the village until he reaches breaking point. Going how the writers have set out it'll probably be not too long before he gets Eddie and Susan to join the rest of his family's ranks. Has George always been such a trucking tanker?

WilkinsonM · 26/07/2023 08:34

WitcheryDivine · 25/07/2023 19:31

Landlords can give notice v easily if they want to live back in their own place though, it's happened to me before as a tenant - I think it's the standard notice so probably 1-2 months.

Only if the fixed term has ended. When did they move in?

faffadoodledo · 26/07/2023 09:26

Oh boy just listened to last night's, and George is an evil little sh!t isn't he??

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/07/2023 09:47

That's about the size of it!

FallonsNewCoat · 26/07/2023 09:51

Will is going to miss the rental income massively. He will need to address the thorny issue of charging George rent before they move in. I’m surprised Ed didn’t mention that George should be contributing towards his bed and board wherever he is living. It’s the sort of thing I would imagine Ed to say.

TheSilveryPussycat · 26/07/2023 09:59

I have decided to embrace the Dark Side, and am now Team George (not that he does teams).

faffadoodledo · 26/07/2023 10:03

George is right about something though.

His parents (all three of them) really are very stupid

TheUsualChaos · 26/07/2023 13:59

He does seem to be able to play them all with very little effort. Years of being too soft with him because of their guilt over their family circumstances is really coming back to bite them.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/07/2023 14:26

WilkinsonM · 26/07/2023 08:34

Only if the fixed term has ended. When did they move in?

Johnny and Tom moved in on 5th October, 2016, and Hannah in May 2019.

When Hannah moved in Tom (the senior tenant) insisted that she had to sign a rental agreement.

That the three of them shared that house is how we know that it still has three bedrooms. (It did when Neil-and-Susan, Emma and Christopher each had one, but in Ambridge houses grow and shed bedrooms sometimes.)

CurlewKate · 26/07/2023 15:03

What about the woman that Stella met at the wedding in Italy and was so enthusiastically messaging with Ruth's encouragement?

Eastie77Returns · 26/07/2023 15:44

I cannot fathom the softly softly approach George’s parents are adopting. They genuinely seem afraid of him. Emma gently telling him in a tremulous voice that she’s still waiting for an apology. Regretful that she slapped him (wtf). Will falling over himself to accommodate a son who shows a complete and utter lack of remorse. I hate to ‘victim’ blame but these two are ridiculous.

Ed is also deeply annoying. After years of aggressively trying to claim George as his son he is now relinquishing all responsibility, suggesting violence as the solution and laying all the blame squarely at Will’s door.

JanglyBeads · 26/07/2023 15:56

I guess it is still the guilt, @Eastie77Returns ?

Eastie77Returns · 26/07/2023 16:24

Jangly I can understand why they feel guilty. His upbringing was far from ideal but relatively few people enjoy an idyllic childhood. George lacked material things and endured some chaos but he never wanted for love or attention and none of his parents failings justify the way he spoke to them.
