Hello. Does anyone know roughly how many children make the second stage ( interview ) of Latymer prep at 7 plus ?

Caps44 · 13/01/2025 08:54

How did people find Highgate 2nd stage. There was nothing academic at all.

Anyone attending 8+ second round for SPJS and WUS this week ? Any advice on what to expect ?

If it's like the 7+, then there should not be any creative writing for SPJS.

7+ over for us and now we wait for emails end of next week. In hindsight, would I do it....NO. It was not enjoyable!

Anyone know how many children make the second stage of Alleyns and Dulwich prep at 7 plus?

DS seemed to enjoy it. Art/craft not his strong suit but glad there was a performative element, which he loves.

Sorry to have only found this thread continuation now. Hope all went well at SPJ 8+. There was a writing exercise for 7+ but it wasn’t a story or descriptive piece and no formulaic prep would’ve helped.

Pbhar · 15/01/2025 09:33

Thanks @Fullmoon99 @Caps44
DS has his final round in SPJS today for 8+

Caps44 · 15/01/2025 09:45

@Fullmoon99 Yes - It was making something and then as a group telling a story. No academics in Highgate 2nd stage. I know they want 50 kids, but do people know how much they over offer historically?
City 2nd stage is still ongoing, so I won't comment on it.
I heard they over offer to 100/110 for 70 places.

All the best Caps44. Agree that it’s only after an offer that this 7+ journey doesn’t seem like a complete debacle.
Even though we have an offer under our belt, yesterday’s Latymer 1st round rejection felt like a knife sliding into our guts. Just reminds us how much luck is involved in so many ways.
Having said that, once the dust settles I’m pretty sure that, offer or no offer, this has been an enormous growth and learning process that isn’t a waste.

I wouldn’t know where to get offer stats, but I have vaguely heard that at 11+ sometimes offers are retracted due to unexpectedly high acceptances and there are legal challenges! This is not verified info though!

user650381 · 15/01/2025 15:13

@Poukong is your dc doing the second round at Alleyn’s ?
we didn’t get through. Must be quite small. They only offer to 4 boys and 4 girls. I’d imagine its no more than 25. Would be good to know though how many actually get through to the stage 2.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 15/01/2025 21:03

Hi @Fullmoon99 sorry to hear. You have SPJ right? Would you have considered Latymer over SPJ?

@Candle15 I would have thought 75 or so - who knows?

@user650381 thanks that is good to know! Have you applied elsewhere?

We are going to try for the 7+ next year with my twin DCs so just trying to do some info gathering now! That is a very small intake for Alleyn’s and good to know the stats for passing round 1 and 2.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 15/01/2025 22:47

Good luck @Pbhar

@Caps44 thought City had 75 spots?

City 75, Highgate 50. Curious to know how many they over offer, as many will be doing those 2 plus NLCS, HABS, UCS, Latymer, SHHS.

Someone wrote on a previous thread that City offered 110 last year, as they expect almost all kids to have other offers.

Yes, we have kings and westminister in hand but waitlist in SPJS. Wanted to know from everyone which is a better school KCS or Westminister ?

Fullmoon99 · 17/01/2025 21:21

Wow, that’s amazing Pbhar! Congratulations to you and DS.
My understanding is that WUS is most difficult to secure a place.
There would be innumerable factors to weigh up, Westminster‘s transition to co-education being a big one.
We loved both of those schools when visiting.
Wimbledon has horse crossing traffic lights… Westminster is central London!
Lovely decision for you to have.

PercyFone · 17/01/2025 21:48

Not quite the point, but there are horse crossing lights just down the Mall from Westminster, @Fullmoon99 😆

But serious point... I know kids thriving at both schools. I'd take logistics into serious consideration.

Superstar88 · 17/01/2025 21:58

Hi we got st Paul’s and waitlist in Westminster. Does anyone know how many do they over offer/waitlist?Logistically for us warm in Ster would be easier so weighing the possibility to wait.
