Did you call Highgate a lot?

Twice last week, plus our prep head called too. Then daily this week.

We initially wanted Highgate, but then spoke to teachers and friends with DS there and just decided it’s too big a school for our DS so decided on UCS.
it was nice to get the offer.

Thanks @Caps44 for your prompt replies. If I may ask, why did you gave up City offer?

Thanks @Caps44 for your prompt replies. If I may ask, why did you gave up City offer?

Just wasn’t for our DS, we wanted more of a campus feel, traditional British public school feel.
good luck to you.

Congratulations @Caps44 !
Just want to say a huge thanks to you for being a brilliant OP, generously sharing your experience and intel. Moreover, thank you (and many others!) for your company in this turbulent 7+ journey. Sharing the intense mental load with you has saved me much of my sanity 🙏

Caps44 · 04/02/2025 21:18

@Fullmoon99 Glad it’s over. We started aiming for certain schools and the one we chose, DH and I (and teachers) agree that UCS is the right school for DS, even though giving up Highgate was tough.
Glad it worked out for you also.

we decided to go for SHHS

Hello, We have offers from SHJS and CJS for our DD. We really struggle with the decision. Our DD loves CJS. I love SHJS. My husband is leaning towards CHS. Should I let our DD choose her future school at this age? No siblings and commute would be similar.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 05/02/2025 08:38

We are dropping our spot at City in favour for Latymer. We ultimately decided we wanted something more dynamic and enterprising as the world is changing faster than anticipated. Good luck to those in City’s WL.

Caps44 · 05/02/2025 09:28

We have just dropped City offer too for our DS, hopefully this opens up a space on the WL.

We have just released offers to Habs and Highgate too for our DS.

Good luck everybody!

Tiredmumofthreekids · 05/02/2025 11:19

@Mummyofahappygirl both schools are very good from the academic perspective, well done. do you want co-ed at Junior? That's the main point to consider.

Demographics-wise, the schools are similar. City will have about a quarter of kids from City (Barbican, Kings Cross, Angel etc) the rest will come from all over, quite a few kids from NW3/NW6 London.

I wouldn't let children choose a school at this age; they cannot consider all the factors and decide based on the available information.

I'd pick City just for co-ed, provided the commute is the same.

Thank you, this was a very good summary and helped me to make the final decision. We accepted CJS at the end but it was an incredibly hard decision to make as both schools are fantastic. We focused on our daughter’s character and our vision of the school environment where she would thrive.

Mummyofahappygirl · 05/02/2025 12:44

It would be lovely to connect to other parents whose child is going to start CJS in September.

familyguy83 · 05/02/2025 13:22

I think we are leaning towards City.

Co-ed for Prep and then single sex for Senior so a good mix of both.
Lovely classrooms, highly qualified teachers and enviable pastoral care.
All the lovely amenities of this fantastic city on your doorstep.

I guess the coach ride will be time to catch up on homework!

It's such a tough decision, but a great position to be in nevertheless.

Yes you are right. It’s an inspiring and exciting place to be. That is exactly why our daughter loved it so much.

Hello all

Well done again on your offers and am sure your DD/DS will flourish amazingly well in their chosen school!

Excuse the random question,
does anyone know how good the Ivy school compared to
Clowns, Mulberry and Hampstead Hill ?
Im not sure on their recent track record but sure they will want to establish one.

Grateful for honest feedback.

We are considering for our younger DS

Have a great weekend.

Hearing City Juniors Head has resigned.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 07/02/2025 16:11

@Caps44 Really? She was great! Only stayed for 4 years. Doesn’t bode well.

Caps44 · 07/02/2025 16:26

Not a great look for the school, especially the timing.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 07/02/2025 16:30

Confirmed by a friend. CJS head going to Eltham College for personal reasons.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 07/02/2025 16:37

@Caps44 I do think they should have announced this pre offer acceptance day and not 2 days after to make it fair for parents who accepted.
