Congrats all on the offers! We have a waiting list place so hoping for movement 🙏 ✨️ also curious how many are wait listed but too chicken to ask!

ForGreenPanda · 18/01/2025 12:30

We are on the waiting list. Congrats all on offers!
Do we know is it likely movements in WUS and SPJS? How likely to get a place from waiting list?

FutureWestLondonMommy · 18/01/2025 21:50

@ForGreenPanda and @ababyhamster congrats, did you do 7+ or 8+? @Pbhar congrats!!

Cadeaux · 19/01/2025 08:29

@ForGreenPanda do you have any pretence between SPJ and WUS?

Sorry, do you mean preference? If so, we love SPJS

NWmum2025 · 20/01/2025 14:29

anyone attempted 7+ SHHS this year? how many girls do they make offers to? I know there are only 24 places available...

Subaru2025 · 20/01/2025 23:25

And when is SHHS announcing the 7+ results this year?

RoundandRounnnd · 21/01/2025 10:13

Congrats to all those whose DC received offers. That must be such a relief.
@Caps44 Did your DS secure a place? Sounds like he’s been through quite a lot of assessments. It must be exhausting. Hopefully, it's finally over.

Caps44 · 21/01/2025 10:44

@RoundandRounnnd Not yet....we are waiting on UCS, Highgate and City this week. He did 6 in total.

Hi all, thank you so much for all the advice so far. Still need to make a choice between kings and westminister. In either case we will have to move. Any more suggestions?

Caps44 · 21/01/2025 11:11

@Pbhar Tough one. We will try just for SPJS 8+ next year, DS was unwell night before and didn't perform. If distance was not an issue, we would say SPJS, KCJS, WUS in that order. Others will have different opinions.

Caps44 · 21/01/2025 11:55

Does anyone know what Highgate have done regarding VAT, I think they are the only school that has not mentioned it in their website. Any parents who have paid the Spring term invoice?

@Caps44 May I ask, do you inform your DS when he receives a rejection? I understand that he first sat for WUS, KCS and SPJS and did not secure an offer for any of them. He’s now sat for a further three. And you wish him again to sit for SPJS.

I say this kindly, but I do wonder what multiple ‘rejections’ can do to the self-confidence of such a young child and whether it’s worth putting someone who has experienced it through the process again. Particularly, when it could end in further rejection.

There is a current thread on MN in which a mother (I assume) has described the feelings of devastation her DD (who is older than 6/7) experienced on being rejected from just one school.

The pursuit of a ‘top-tier’ school could be far more damaging than the attendance of a good, less selective one.

Caps44 · 21/01/2025 12:37

@RoundandRounnnd We did and didn't tell him. He was very close from the feedback and had he not been unwell, we were confident for SPJS. We feel that with his level of maths that it would be a shame not to try SPJS again.
He actually enjoyed the exams and the 2nd rounds, that's the benefit of the 7+ is that they don't notice it as much. We will wait and see on Friday.

Hello Caps44
what back up school options do you recommend for one's DS?
Hall
Hereward
St Anthonys
Belmont

Caps44 · 21/01/2025 18:28

@familyguy83 Hall and Hereward are great!
St Anthony is good, I wouldn't go near the Mill Hill schools.

Hereward House. Head is superb as confirmed by numerous parents.

Can I ask why re Mill Hill?

Caps44 · 21/01/2025 19:01

@Sssddd from people I know who have sent their children their, it's not academic at all and recent reviews are not great.

Forgot to mention, what about Hampstead Hill for 11+ preparation?

RoundandRounnnd · 21/01/2025 19:19

@Caps44 Given he did not receive an offer (even WL) from the two other schools suggests that his feeling of being unwell may not have impacted the outcome (although you must have made a typo as in your original post you stated it was your DS’s friend who was ‘not feeling great’). Being strong in one area is not enough to secure a place at the aforementioned schools, as you know. And those other sought-after skills are not to be underestimated or undervalued.
Of course, it’s your decision what you choose to do. I just wonder what the appeal of these schools is when there’s credible evidence to suggest your DC may struggle academically within the setting.

FutureWestLondonMommy · 21/01/2025 20:34

@Pbhar It is a real quality problem to have. You really won’t go wrong with either. I have friends whose kids are at both schools and they can’t stop raving about how these two schools have made the kids resilient and responsible .. go with where DS will spend less time travelling and where you will want to live. If DS is more inclined towards the arts (performing and otherwise), pick KCS. For academic curiosity, pick WUS:-)
