You can call the school registrar. There are only 44 spots and 25% are bursary spots.

I think the bursary ratio (roughly 1 in 4) applies to The Upper branch not the Junior one, also the bursaries start from 25% of the total fee with a limited number of 100% available.

@wisdomdreamer The feeling from our prep head is that they are not after the top academic kids. He said that the papers are not so difficult so many do well and once above the minimum, then they base everything on the 2nd round. WUS offers did not get firm offers from Highgate. This 100% the case for Highgate - judging by who got offers and who didnt.

That's an interesting insight, thanks, I can think of five kids who got an offer ( 4B and 1G), 4 state and 1 private all five are very bright kids (geeky type like one of my daughters!) and Id say more on the shy side. My niece is an extrovert type very chatty and bubbly, of course it's hard to draw any stats from these numbers as they want to have a mix of kids

The academic ability of each child is certainly a big factor. But, of course, there are other factors that may also weigh heavily (and rightly so) – for instance, the readiness of a child to learn i.e. can this child accept feedback, acknowledge their limitations, collaborate with others, and help to foster a positive learning environment, while working towards their own academic and personal growth? The selectors know what they are doing and have chosen and given firm offers to the pupils that likely demonstrated behaviours in line with their ethos and academic expectations.

We’ll likely be writing to Highgate and City this weekend to release our offer spots. Good luck to all on WLs.

I’ve also gathered from hearing 4+ and 7+ experiences over a few years that Highgate like extroverts and DS is an outgoing boy who likes performing and makes friends easily so I guess that theory works out in our case. Has anyone seen whether it is a similar case at 11+?

In the Highgate Q&A zoom this week they seemed to emphasise their focus on oracy. Both Highgate and City noted that they don’t charge ahead in the curriculum, preferring to “go deeper” and encourage the children to present in varied formats eg orally.

Fullmoon99 · 31/01/2025 20:47

I would really love to know how different the 11+ process is to the 7+ and would be grateful to hear experiences and opinions on this.
eg is 7+ a decent base in terms of format and is it just that the curriculum difficulty and quantum of required knowledge skyrockets? Is there still basically Maths, mental maths, dictation, English comprehension, creative writing, VR, NVR?

FutureWestLondonMommy · 31/01/2025 21:08

Hi @Fullmoon99 did you accept SPJ? We are leaning slightly towards Latymer. Latymer and City are the final two…

Fullmoon99 · 31/01/2025 21:16

Yes, we’ve accepted…
Which schools did your DC sit for?

theotherplace · 31/01/2025 21:32

wisdomdreamer George is 10, he will be doing the 11+?

do you release B or G place?

According to the Mumsnet rumour mill, which is then widely quoted by local North London mums, these schools might seem like they prefer extroverts, but in reality, they take a mix of personalities at all entry points inlcluding 11+ to make sure there aren’t any dominant types in each class.

according to the press George will be sitting occasional place for 13+ to join in Y9 meaning that Louis will be joining at Y4 (so will be joining those who are entering Highgate Y3 in September this year). I don't personally think they even end up going to any day school but ive already overhead some people considering this as a bonus point for Highgate when deciding between the offers (how crazy is this!) thats why the royal visit to school in December felt like it came at the wrong time

@FutureWestLondonMommy two great options, congratulations. What did Latymer’s 2nd round entail? My mind’s turning to our younger DC…

JadeDeer · 01/02/2025 19:53

We released our spots at UCS, Highgate and City yesterday and today. Good luck to those in WL!

FutureWestLondonMommy · 02/02/2025 02:12

@JadeDeer what did you pick for DS?

FutureWestLondonMommy · 02/02/2025 02:13

Very detailed interview with two teachers, joint activity with another child (opposite gender), group activity

JadeDeer · 02/02/2025 13:02

We went for SPJ

FutureWestLondonMommy · 02/02/2025 21:20

@JadeDeer didn’t you also have KCS or am I mistaken?

No we didn’t try that. Way too far for us

Absolute insanity, as a parent of a child at a highly academic school (and a royalist) I would not want any of the children there (in the nicest way). It's a distraction. It would be a disadvantage for me.

SunshineMum3 · 03/02/2025 11:19

Hello lovely Mums and Dads,

Do you know if wait lists have started moving for 7+ for schools like Highgate, City and SHHS? Thank you.

Hello lovely Mums and Dads,

Do you know if wait lists have started moving for 7+ for schools like Highgate, City and SHHS? Thank you.

No idea about these schools but we're on reserve list for Latymer (first choice) and haven't heard anything.

Are we supposed to just wait patiently as the deadline approaches for other schools, or is it worth reaching out to try and gauge the likelihood of an offer forthcoming? I feel we're now unlikely to hear anything before the deadline and will need to accept, and risk potentially forgoing the deposit should an offer materialise later in the week.

SunshineMum3 · 03/02/2025 12:11

Thanks for your message. The schools have probably not heard back from all the offer holders just yet. Hence I think will have to wait until later this week to heard anything back.

Caps44 · 03/02/2025 12:12

I think most will hear back from Wednesday afternoon onwards.

id agree i wouldn't want any unnecessary attention either but some people think that the presence of royals in any given school will set even higher educational and behavioral standards, either way I wouldnt personally choose the school based on this factor alone.

Caps44 · 04/02/2025 14:21

We just received a WL offer for Highgate, however we will be declining it, along with City and accepting UCS. Good luck those on the reserve lists.
