So nervous for primary school offer!

Just wanting to feel less alone, I am losing sleep with worry about the primary school my DD will get a place at! We live 0.9 miles from our first choice school however they always have 2/3x the applicants than they offer places so I'm so worried we will just miss out by not living next door 😫

I'm Lancashire, mine came through at 7:36, just as I was getting in the car, so I had to run back in and tell DH we'd got first choice

Anyone know if London/Surrey get emailed results or portal? I did a paper application, so I'm not on the portal. This area don't find out till evening and I am terrified of it not coming through and having to wait till tomorrow to call. The nerves!

London/Surrey put it on the portal and email it if you applied online. However if you applied on a paper from, they will send you your letter by post. So unfortunately you probably won't get it today, as I think they will put it in the post today.

I'm from Redbridge, London and heard that email for primary school is usually sent in late afternoon but you can find out couple of hours earlier on addmisions website.

Bunnycat101 · 17/04/2023 09:23

I rechecked what happened with my eldest. The portal got updated at 5, I accepted the offer and had email confirmation a few minutes later. I then got the allocation email at 9pm so may be a long wait if you just wait for the email.

MrsLB123 · 17/04/2023 09:29

Sorry, I’m not sure if anyone has got back to you yet, on my councils portal on the application overview it has a button ‘review and accept offer’ i has to click on that

First choice here too! I am so thrilled (just can't believe he'll go to school this year - where's the time gone??? I gave birth to him like yesterday!!).
I didn't get an email but reading this thread I logged into the portal and found the offer, and accepted it immediately. Then I got a confirmation email straight away.

Whattodo112222 · 17/04/2023 09:37

Got mine at 2.00am - 1st choice - SO relieved.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 17/04/2023 09:39

Glos - we got an email at 01:48, but my husband had already logged in at 01:04 and found the offer.

We got our first choice, so we're dead chuffed. It's a catholic school attached to the parish we worship at, so we were hopeful that we'd get in but there's never a guarantee!

So nervous too!
Has anyone applied to church schools?

Good luck everyone

Yes, though ours has changed it's admissions policy. You no longer need any church attendance nor are there priority places for the parish.

I got a stupid question: what happens now.... Will the school make contact and provide instructions ahead of the first day in September? Will we meet anyone?

Short answer is yes.

You'll get something from the school in a few weeks with forms to complete and general information.

After half term they might have some induction events / home visits. What they do varies by school. Also last time I did this we were under covid restrictions.

Also keep an eye on local FB groups. Some unofficial events are organised by parents

Thanks Twizbe!

Ahh ours was very much tied to church attendance etc.
did you get your first choice or still waiting in which case good luck!

elliesmummy19 · 17/04/2023 09:59

Yay! We got first choice. So happy!

Twizbe · 17/04/2023 10:03

@Cantbelieveit888 yes, still waiting, we're in London, eldest goes to the school though so shouldn't be an issue.

Namechange13101 · 17/04/2023 11:54

First choice here to, our email came through at around 8.30am, but nothing on the portal. Others i know are still waiting for emails from the same LA as us, so they can't have sent them all out together!

Sandrine1982 · 17/04/2023 13:37

Anyone in London got their results yet?

Whattodo112222 · 17/04/2023 13:38

There is no accept the place for Essex either?

Cantbelieveit888 · 17/04/2023 13:53

Londoners- I heard from a friend it’s around 5pm

Does anyone know, because I missed the deadline to do it online (I didn’t know there was one and this is my first child!) so had to fill out the paper form and give it to the school. DS already attends the preschool. Will I receive an email at the same time or will it be later than everyone else?

In our area if you miss the application deadline you get placed in a second round of applications in May.

For all my stressing, only 3/4 of the schools in my area are actually full, and from what I can see only 3 have waiting lists. Numbers seem crazy low. Looks like a few schools have a UMS of 60 but have only taken 30 too. Very odd.

dandeliondaisy · 17/04/2023 15:30

@Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie many schools are reducing spaces and dropping entire classes next academic year because of Brexit (people moving back), emigration and low birth rate. A few schools in Lambeth and Southwark have completely closed. Shocking isn't it x

dandeliondaisy · 17/04/2023 15:31

I know this sounds batty buttttt when ours get to secondary school, I'm assuming low birth will mean larger catchment unless of course loads of school aged kids move into the area. We are moving next year and hoping to get closer to the school for Y7 🤪

40weeksmummy · 17/04/2023 15:41

Anyone from London? Any news?

dandeliondaisy · 17/04/2023 15:46

@40weeksmummy nothing 🫣 apparently 5pm 🤪

Goodoccasionallypoor · 17/04/2023 15:52

Just looking at admissions data in my area - interesting to see that all the schools on our list got down to offers outside catchment this year. Most didn't last year.

I guess It's a low birth year.
