So nervous for primary school offer!

Just wanting to feel less alone, I am losing sleep with worry about the primary school my DD will get a place at! We live 0.9 miles from our first choice school however they always have 2/3x the applicants than they offer places so I'm so worried we will just miss out by not living next door 😫

@dandeliondaisy I heard that too which is annoying as they still have to deal with the calls and emails a day later 😂

They don't usually give you a reason but you can contact LA in the morning about being added to the waiting list for your first choice and they may tell you then.

Good schools are better for children than outstanding ones so if she doesn't get in it's more than fine.

I don't know if it is the same everywhere but in Essex if you don't get your first choice you are automatically added to the waiting list in the order of the admissions criteria for the first choice school. If offered a 3rd or 4th choice school, you will be added to the waiting list for all the schools above your offered one. Many parents apply for school places but have no intention of sending their child as they intend on sending to private schools or those moving house. This then frees up place a place for those of the waiting list. You should be able to find out where you are on the waiting list too but not for a few days.

We got our 1st choice, SO relieved as it was out of catchment (next village) but would have been a massive childcare headache and expense if we didn't as DM helps out with the school run for my sister and I (DS was already at the preschool attached to the school DN attends)

We got our first choice! I don't know how I'm going to go back to sleep now. I'm so relieved and shocked I feel like running round the block a few times yelling! 🤣

We didn't get our first choice. 2nd choice is a good school but not as suited for my sons needs. Beyond gutted and worried about his future 😔

Ours has gone awry.
Saw we had a place offered on the portal, but was unable to view it, as it hadn’t been published. Status: Place offered. Now it’s reverted back to „application has been successfully submitted“ and the publishing date has changed from 17/04/2023 to 18/04/2023.
Anxiety is through the friggin roof - no emails either.

Literally as I submitted my post, offer came through (Devon) - First choice. Have my fingers firmly crossed for everyone ❤️

I can see on the portal that we’ve been offered our first choice but no email yet,
I’ll feel better when that comes through but so relieved!

I know from previous years email was sent in the late afternoon (4-6pm) but you was able to see it on online portal couple of hours earlier

Get on the waiting list for first choice school as a place may well come up before September but you want to be as high on the wait list as you can be. Email LA.

Dorset here. Emails should come out this morning and Portal says updates at 10am.

Ugh the wait.

But we're very lucky 3 great schools and low birth rate, not overly concerned. It's more the after school care/share on my mind!
