So nervous for primary school offer!

Just wanting to feel less alone, I am losing sleep with worry about the primary school my DD will get a place at! We live 0.9 miles from our first choice school however they always have 2/3x the applicants than they offer places so I'm so worried we will just miss out by not living next door 😫

Ahhhh I'm in your boat! Our catchment school isn't great so we didn't put it on the list at all. We put one 0.7 miles away, but actually a quicker walk to get to. It's a lovely school, but we're one street out of catchment on their map so I'm nervous!

Pinkgrass · 12/04/2023 21:17

Its nice to know im not alone! It's an awful feeling the wait and worry!! I created the thread my husband is so calm and relaxed about everything I'm starting to think he couldn't care less! Il be up until midnight Sunday up with nerves 🥴

Same here! Also in West Yorkshire and our first choice is very popular.

@Aturnipforthebooks that's a huge amount! It must have been a year with an unusually high number of siblings?

When my kids were at school half of my eldest son's class had siblings in my younger son's class, there was a 3 year age gap. There were a couple with siblings in other years but it seemed so strange that all these families had a 3 year gap.

Good luck everyone.

transformandriseup · 12/04/2023 21:25

Good luck OP, we are waiting to hear too. There are just 15 places at our preferred village school 😱.

I feel your pain! Our catchment border is the main road. We're 10 houses away. Which means we are just outside of catchment for our preferred school but only just in catchment for our catchment school. I wish it was Monday already!

MiniEggsAllYear · 12/04/2023 21:34

Does anyone know if they mostly all come through at midnight or are they staggered?

Pinkgrass · 12/04/2023 21:38

From what iv gathered it usually comes just after midnight!

Looks like it'll be a late night for me on Sunday!

I'm in this situation too. Really should get in, but I can't help being nervous anyway. His older brother is autistic and mornings are so hard anyway. Having to get them to separate schools at the same time would be a nightmare.

We've been told the email will come during office hours on Monday.

MynameisJune · 12/04/2023 21:43

A lot of London boroughs don’t send out until 5pm so that parents have the time to digest the allocation before starting to call admissions. I think this is generally because there’s a lot of schools within short distances and lots of applicants.

Last time I logged into my account on our council account website and the results were posted at midnight.

Yes I think this is true for London and Surrey who all use the same system. It goes on the portal at 5pm but emails can take a while longer.

Round 2 for us with our youngest who will get sibling preference so not stressful this time. Last time I was worried. Our 1st choice had just had it's Ofsted and done very well with one of the popular local schools being downgraded, so I was worried everyone would apply to 'our' school. The popular school is Catholic and we wouldn't have been likely to get a place there either. Thankfully it worked out for us. Hope it does for you all.

wejammin · 12/04/2023 22:16

DC1 is starting high school in September and DC2 is in year 4. We've moved out of catchment since DC1 and 2 started primary so there's a chance DC3 won't get in. The demographic in the catchment has also changed quite a bit in the last few years, loads more young families as the area has become more 'gentrified'. I'm dreading offer day in case DC3 doesn't get in and I've then got 3 in 3 schools!

Turtleoo · 13/04/2023 07:01

I'm feeling nervous too. I put our closest school as first choice but 2 and 3 are not much further in distance, we are sort of in the middle of a triangle. I desperately want school 1. Was originally happy with 2 but have since heard some things about it that's made me wish I hadn't put it so high. Hopefully we'll get in to 1 but the sibling count is usually high and takes up a lot of the spaces

redrobininmygarden · 13/04/2023 07:19

I thought the National offer day for the reception year is on the 17th of April.

Fruitandveg3 · 13/04/2023 07:28

We are looking to move to the Hampstead area soon. My son will be entering reception September 2024. If I registered him just now into private schools in the area will it be too late to get in?

Pinkgrass · 13/04/2023 07:55

It is but its usually on the portal at midnight! So we will be staying up on the 16th

I'm in West Yorkshire and 0.9 miles has always got me my first choice even without sibling rule 🤷‍♀️.
Three times I've waited for the primary offer (big age gap between all my children).
Chill mummy you will be fine 👍🏻

Thank you so much I needed to hear this!! I'm just so nervous as this school is just so much better than the other options!

Hope it's good news OP. Prepare yourself in case it isn't though.

Jeshka07 · 13/04/2023 09:13

Fingers crossed everyone for first choices!! I didnt realise it was a low birth year so cause for a little more optimism maybe?!
I have beewaiting so anxiously too! We are desperate for our DD to get into the school across the road but we are in a big new estate (a relatively small village that has bad a lot of house developemnt over the last few years but still a small primary) and my friend on the same road didnt get in 2 years ago so very nervous. They had 2 applicants for every place last year. We spent ages on our 2nd and 3rd choice decisions but have since found out that our 2nd choice wouldn't work for us with breakfast clubs and my work timings (I am a teacher in a school in the next town so need to be in fairly early). All choices were oversubscribed last year but those were the nearest 3 that made sense. I am literally counting down the hours now as I am so nervous!! DH is fairly laid back.
His attitude is "well someone has got to get the place so why not us?!" I wish I was as optimistic!

justanotherdrama · 13/04/2023 10:42

Where we live it's an infant school and a junior and not a primary;

It's a low birth rate year so the current year 2 at the infant setting has 2 classes of 19 and 21 usually they are between 30-32.

Apparently 84 have applied for 60 junior spaces!!!!! There is a nearby school that have had a recent terrible offstead hence a lot of extra applications.

People who live in the village should be absolutely fine but the ones who travel in are nervous 😬 and this other school is only a mile away from the village. Previously been considered a nice school;

Everyone is getting nervous!

The waiting will soon be over!

IsAGirlMumma · 13/04/2023 10:47

I'm extremely nervous. We're out of catchment, but it's closer than the catchment school.

How do you find out how many applied last year?

Pinkgrass · 13/04/2023 10:58

For us it's on our local gov website we can see previous years applications v places
