Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Just heard on bbc news that the Business editor has told that although Matt Hancock and the government have said they are working with supermarkets to ensure food supply all of the supermarket executives he has spoken to have said that that is not true and they have had no dealings with the government, but that they are worried as the amount of staff it is taking to keep the shelves stocked with the massive increase in sales in some areas is what they planned for a worst deal Brexit and that this is only the start of the outbreak

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2020 09:33

There are pill reminding apps available that can cope with multiple profiles. I do worry slightly about whether this then hands over data to pharma companies, but it could be something to use for this.

magicrainbowbeans · 06/03/2020 09:48

At the GP surgery now for a routine appointment and unsure whether to sit in a chair that's been used by 20+ people. Already refused to use the touch screen, eurgh. At least they have hand sanitiser.

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 09:49

Morning all, caught up on the thread since yesterday!

@NatoPMT glad to hear your friend does not have CV but sorry that he is still quite poorly. Hope he recovers soon!

Second confirmed case in Wales here is someone in Cardiff. Saw a few people with masks on this morning on the train to work for the first time. Plenty of people giving them dirty/snarky looks, I wanted to defend them but didn't have the balls!

Just had a breaking news alert on my phone that the Vatican City has it's first confirmed case (but that was from the daily fail Blush so not sure how reliable that is.

burntpinky · 06/03/2020 09:56

Anyone else can’t stop refreshing bbc news?! I just can’t get on with my life

electrichedgehog · 06/03/2020 09:56

The news about a case in the Vatican City was just on the Guardian site too.

Just been listening to this podcast, which I thought was very interesting and clearly explained:
"Covid-19: where in the body does it infect us? " www.theguardian.com/science/audio/2020/mar/05/covid-19-where-in-the-body-does-it-infect-us-science-weekly-extra

Interestingly, after taking the piss out of preppers last week, the Sun is now running a piece on what to stockpile for two weeks of isolation and how to spread the cost etc. Thought it was very calm and sensible for them www.thesun.co.uk/money/11095369/coronavirus-stockpile-guide/

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 10:00

@burntpinky same here - just as well it's a slow day in work as I'm getting nothing done :-\

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 10:05

It is a slow burn. The length of incubation and less-deadly-than-SARS mortality is stretching it out

It will be a longer haul than in the movies

I’m feeling a bit better. My extra freezer has arrived and the dog food delivery is rescheduled for Monday so I think yesterday was a blip. Need the damn melatonin. Don’t need dark circles in the apocalypse

Oh I forgot to say @VenetoResident, melatonin depends on how old you are generally. If you’re over 40, it usually has an impact

My husband tried it at 34 and felt no benefit while it gives me that really tired, looking forward to sleep, comfortable falling asleep feeling that I’d actually forgotten existed as I hadn’t felt it since I was much much younger

GorkyMcPorky · 06/03/2020 10:06

At the pharmacy. Just heard a customer saying 'All this fuss over coronavirus. It's just a cold.'

100 points.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2020 10:06

Emergency note to all preppers:
Do not stack tins of pull lid heinz tomato soup!

It turns out that if they fall out of your loft, they explode on impact with the carpet. Shock Shock Shock

When I say explode I mean all over the carpet, walls and surrounding people explode. Sad Any tips for getting it out of textiles?

I guess, the upside to the lesson: If too weak to open your tins when infected, just drop them out of your bedroom window into a bucket.

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 10:12

@OhYouBadBadKitten oh no Shock Grin
Have you got any fabric stain remover etc? even just vanish? maybe make a bit of a past with that and put it over the stain then wash it off after a while with a cloth?

ScatteredMama82 · 06/03/2020 10:12

@OhYouBadBadKitten sorry but you did make me laugh then! Sorry, no tips for textiles vs tomato soup :(

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 10:13

Sky news are hosting Q&As today at 12:30pm and 6:30pm.

I'm relieved it's Friday so that my children will be home with me and we won't have to get on packed trams. I've been using the raincover even when it's not raining as there were five people this morning all coughing. Not saying they have the virus but my two youngest have been under the weather so not taking any chances. This tram is one which goes straight to the main train station to get into central London.

See how things progress over the weekend :(

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 10:14

@burntpinky yes constantly refreshing.... also can't get on with my life. Hardly work done this week yet I have spent a lot of time getting our house ready to be valued even though it's not the right time to be selling!

@GorkyMcPorky rolls eyes

@OhYouBadBadKitten I don't know whether to laugh or cry....poor you. No tips other than vanish sorry...good luck

pemberlyshades · 06/03/2020 10:15

Wearing my gloves out in Winchester today!

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 10:16

@OhYouBadBadKitten this stuff works wonders it's a must have!

Getting some amused looks on the park and ride!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 06/03/2020 10:21

"When I say explode I mean all over the carpet, walls and surrounding people explode. Any tips for getting it out of textiles?"

You're going to have to move house, sorry Smile

ViolaTricolora · 06/03/2020 10:22

@ Bad kitten: I think an explosion of red sauce fits perfectly well with murder gloves Grin

On a more serious note: toothpaste and lemonjuice are said to work against the stains

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2020 10:29

Ok, I've got some red wine stain remover on it that was deep in the cupboard. I'll panic buy some Dr Beckmans. Thanks!!!!

dh is going to be Shock when he gets in from work this evening.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

ifonly4 · 06/03/2020 10:30

BadKitten hope you manage to get the stain out. Maybe that's a lesson for everyone, if you've got stuff stored high up and moving around, put an old sheet/towel underneath.

On another note, how long do you think a 50ml bottle of hand sanitizer will last someone? My Mum bought one bottle a couple of weeks ago and obviously can't buy any more, just debating whether to let her have one of ours and whose going to need them most.

Neome · 06/03/2020 10:30

(accidentally posted on wrong thread...)

theoretical question for long term preppers. If you are staying at home as a precaution would you go out a) briefly and carefully to collect prescriptions + handwash on getting home b) go out alone avoiding any contact with people to work on allotment?

burntpinky · 06/03/2020 10:30

@itsnotjustflu and @rhij86 same, done bugger all work. My work have set up a what’s app group for each team to keep us updated.

Not helping that I’m 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow and petrified. No data yet on effects on early pregnancy though I’ve signed up to updated by the royal college of obstetricians. Been desperate to get pregnant with number 2 for ages (I’m 42 this year) and now it’s happened it seems the worst time to be. Thankfully I drive too and from work so no public transport to contend with and can WFH if required but another 7 weeks until I’m out of first trimester which is a long time given peak might hit shortly

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 10:35

I'm getting seriously annoyed now that there's no soap let alone anti-bac. As we are double pumping our soap at home it's running down fast. Annoyed that I can't get any and annoyed it was the one thing I forgot to prep

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 10:35

@burntpinky congratulations on the baby! Currently 22wks with number 2 here. Work have told us to be prepared to wfh in the event of an office closure. Anxiety kicked up a notch on weds and I asked if I could wfh to avoid public transport, and they basically told me there was no additional advice for pregnant women at the moment so to suck it up and keep coming in.

Someone in our office has just come around to set up team whatsapp groups too - wonder if we work for the same company Grin what sector do you work in?
