Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Can I ask a question? I'm thinking about buying a £300 oxygen concentrator. Does anyone think that's a good idea? Are they just rubbish at that price?

(For context my husband has always had problems with his lungs, and he's had the "proper" flu twice. The last time almost killed him, it was terrifying, and the thought of watching him suffer with a worse illness is terrifying. I accept that I might be worrying too much here though.)

BlackeyedSusan · 08/03/2020 16:23

It's here. Finally. Ok it has been here for a while but it is confirmed here. ( A couple of days ago and I wasn't paying attention)

Feels odd to know for definite.

Shopping tomorrow. Giving all the coughers the side eye.

LightofMine · 08/03/2020 16:26

@Neome

I agree, I would also like to know how many of the 273 are in a serious or critical condition as most other countries are reporting this. We got our first case on 31st January and only 18 have recovered.

I'm surprised we are still not hearing much from those that have been diagnosed, would be helpful (or maybe not) to hear their experiences.

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 16:27

Eileen, thinking more, the first area update was 6 March, bankittenheels saud at that point it was out of date due to a case in her area, since then, we’ve had the update on 7th and 8th and her area is still not showing any cases 😫

Neome, you’d think the journalists would be doing that work wouldn’t you? Unless there are agreements / embargo’s with the press to siphon the info out slowly...

Thanks Amelie - that has defo crossed my mind, especially about the sour cream!! I thought I’d use peppers, onions and squash in a tortilla and use them to top that, so hopefully the taste will get a bit lost!!

AmelieTaylor · 08/03/2020 16:32

@Neome. Yes I’d like to know as well. Frankly though we’ve got no chance. They treat us like mushrooms ‘kept in the dark & fed shit’ (someone said this earlier too)

Part of me wants to know, but in all honesty, not knowing is probably better. I think those numbers would be truly terrifying.

Same with the ‘locations’. Several places on that list are ‘where I live’ as I live somewhere that they all converge.😖.

My Great Aunt (90) in in one town listed on there as having several cases. I’m very worried about her 😖 and I’m getting angrier by the day that the Govt not only don’t seem to be doing much, but also seem so 🤷🏻‍♀️ About it all. Some Govt buffoon on the radio the other day was saying ‘well we need to discuss & decide what we would do’ They’ve had fucking WEEKS to get a proper plan in place.

My only hope is that there are actually workers, working on stuff quietly behind the scenes and it’s just the mouthpieces on the radio that are so fucking clueless.

Too much to hope for? Probably.

Oliphantitus · 08/03/2020 16:33

Anyone seen this song? A bit od light relief xx

Puppycorn · 08/03/2020 16:34

@EileenBilton as far as I think, it can’t be off by days if you look at the case and timeframe of the gentle man from mk (from his admission to the public news) but that might be just one case

Mrsemcgregor · 08/03/2020 16:36

So it’s confirmed in my town today. They’ve not mentioned recent travel so do I assume it was a community transmission?

I have a cupboard full of tins and rice etc. I’ve had most of them since brexit and topped up 2 weeks ago when it became clear (to me) that there was no real hope of containment. We have plenty of soap bars but have ran low on kitchen cleaning supplies. I dropped the ball there.

DH works at the university and I have 2 kids in primary so I am fully expecting us to get it.

All these years I’ve prepped I never actually believed I would need to use it. This is surreal.

AmelieTaylor · 08/03/2020 16:37

@NatoPMT
Yeah, if you can lose the taste & texture in the real food, they’ll do the job. The ‘sour cream’ isn’t much like sour cream but if you accept it as ‘topping’ if it’s own. It’ll add something 🥴

ooopsupsideyourhead · 08/03/2020 16:42

Really strange day here!

Finally persuaded my mum to go and do some shopping with me - she shops everyday normally and buys in exactly what she needs (doesn’t drive). My friends were messaging me with photos of Sainsbury’s, Asda, Tesco, Aldo, Lidl, Home Bargains, B&M (all within 5 miles of here) with decimated/empty shelves. We went to Morrison’s - who had everything except hand gel (did this ever exist... I forget HmmGrin) and cheap paracetamol. Obviously mum thought I was making everything up Smile

Had a cleaning cupboard sort out. Found a huge bottle of gel. Happy days. Shame I’d already bought the rubbing alcohol and aloe Vera Blush

BanKittenHeels · 08/03/2020 16:45

Yes there are cases in this newspaper report that I know to be accurate (plus more now) which aren’t on that table.

www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/first-coronavirus-case-confirmed-tameside-17885010

(Not the Tameside news itself but the breakdown of specific Greater MCR areas further down the page)

JustMeAndMyTins · 08/03/2020 16:47

Just wanted to say that an expert I really like is Peter Piot. He isn’t generally trotted out but there are a couple of articles in The Times and the Financial Times, and a talk on Goldman Sachs YouTube page. He discovered Ebola and leads on HIV research.

Just wanted to highlight him as - like some posters have said before - some of them don’t pitch their message well. He’s strangely calming even when the message is bad.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/03/2020 16:59

Peter Piot is great. I've been to an infectious disease lecture by him. It was v. interesting.

wheresmymojo · 08/03/2020 17:03

Shit

We're waiting for Italy's national update but, based on Lombardy's update alone, there are at least 100 new deaths, according to local media. Full figures in a few minutes.

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 17:03

@BanKittenHeels - Tameside is listed as 1 case on the regional list, is this an extra case in the MEN, so Tameside should be more than 1 by your reckoning?

wheresmymojo · 08/03/2020 17:08

Predictions for next week:

Today: 273

sideorderofchips · 08/03/2020 17:11

Latest results here in channel islands is after 72 hours

FuckThisWind · 08/03/2020 17:14

I just had my predictions convo with my Mum mojo

Initially I said 1000 by Friday.
But I think we will now hit that number earlier..

And the Italian Stats are just horrifying.
Hopefully it will make the WHO clamp down and make other countries (i.e Ours) put measures in place more quickly.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 08/03/2020 17:15

@somerville you are right, it was @mumblechum! I was thinking Kerrymumbles but knew that wasn't quite right

@NatoPMT "Good idea on dry shampoo - shame I can’t fit a personal lighting assistant in there too, that would Definitely do the job"

You need to prep with some Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder. Fuck baked beans, this is an essential Grin I have Ethereal and it's awesome. And I don't wear make up generally.

JustMeAndMyTins · 08/03/2020 17:17

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles I second the Hourglass powder’s magical properties!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 08/03/2020 17:17

Sorry I posted after reading the posts I am replying to so I didn't forget, should have read the later ones as mine looks too light hearted now Blush

FuckThisWind · 08/03/2020 17:20

Is it just me, or have any of you got a gallery full of screen shots on your phone from these threads? Quotes / Advice / Ideas and Inspiration a plenty here. I may have to start a Pinterest Board! Grin

SharpieInThe · 08/03/2020 17:22

@Mrsemcgregor I had the same, never thought it would happen, but prepped anyway.

Was a shock. I'd rather have been wrong!

Cherrypi · 08/03/2020 17:23

Thanks permanentlyfrazzled1. Some interesting ideas there.

Posharmchairs · 08/03/2020 17:23

@ooopsupsideyourheads I felt like that this morning. Did a quick dash in to stock up on wraps and a veg item for my latest dehydration project and there was plenty of soap etc. Dh looked at me very smugly. However, that was 10.20am. I bet it was a different story when they closed at 4pm.
