Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Just read an article on the BBC from an Italian family with their kids out of school. All the kids are still mixing out of school. They're not taking it very seriously then!! 48 more deaths in Italy yesterday.

FuckThisWind · 06/03/2020 06:52

Morning all. Feel very strange this morning.
Like still slightly calm before the storm ish.
I think the next 48 hrs or so are going to be telling.

Not looking forward to hosp appt today.
Really not looking forward to sitting on my checkout all day tomorrow. Last Saturday was already beginning to show the strain eith elderly customers worrying / knowing glances from obvious preppers. Peppered with the bastards who coughed all over me and the Deniers. I am going to see how it goes at work tomorrow, and if it makes me feel I'll for whatever reason, I will be thinking long and hard about any options I have.

Hopefully that WHO dig will kick our so called PM up the arse and into action!

peachgreen · 06/03/2020 06:56

I have to do my final prep shop today and I'm dreading it. Nothing I need is on the list of things that seem to be selling out as I already have all of those in stock, but I know there will be things unavailable and that will freak me out. Fingers crossed I get what we need and then can maybe relax a bit.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/03/2020 06:56

Really bad that USA won’t test that nurse....what’s the reasoning? That she hasn’t been to a high risk country? Does nobody have any common sense?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 07:02

To those who say it's just the flu: I am young and healthy but I had a dose of flu last year that knocked me out for about a week. I would not have been able to go shopping (even climbing the stairs to go to bed felt like I'd climbed a mountain and anyway, I wouldn't have wanted to spread germs). So, even if this is just the flu (it's not!), it still makes sense to be prepared.

^^This

I think most of the ‘it’s just the flu’ people are those who have never had flu in their entire lives but claim to have flu every time they get a bad cold. Even if it were ‘just the flu’ it would be pretty bloody awful given that it’s a flu that can’t be vaccinated against and there’s little, if any, natural resistance to.

EnidBlyton · 06/03/2020 07:05

So my online shop due tomorrow has informed me of plenty of out of stock items,
online shopping doesnt look so appealing now. just because i have asked for certain thigns doesnt guarantee i will get them, can't get chick peas

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 07:16

Should have said ‘if it were a flu that can’t be vaccinated against’ not ‘it’s a flu that can’t be vaccinated against’ - I know it’s not the flu!

NutellaQuest · 06/03/2020 07:20

I've woken up with a sore throat. Sad Have gargle with TCP. Really hope it's just that feeling you get sometimes in the morning, but nor convinced. Going to have a shot of Coldzyme too.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 07:21

EnidBlyton it’s worth trying Ocado. As others have said, they do a real-time stock check so you know when you order if an item will is in stock and it’s reserved for you. Whether this system is still working properly with the current pressures I don’t know - will be interesting to see whether my order this weekend is missing anything.

I know they aren’t the cheapest but you can currently get 30% off a minimum £60 shop if you have shopped with them previously - free delivery for three months as well. I posted the code on a previous thread but it’s on their homepage.

pemberlyshades · 06/03/2020 07:25

Thanks @itsnotjustthefuckingflu and @wheresmymojo glad to see you back too. I will be laying low over the weekend- I'm not feeling too well!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 07:27

Nutella hope you feel better later.

Once it’s more widespread I know every cough or feeling of being under the weather is going to prompt real anxiety.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 07:40

Enid - terrible typo in my Ocado post - should have read the 30% off offer is for anyone who hasn’t shopped with them before.

burntpinky · 06/03/2020 07:43

I’m off to get more today. I’m on a dependents day to day as we have no childcare but don’t want to take DC as he’s only 18 months so licks the trolley. DH coming home at lunch to watch him so I’m busy making a list. Already bought loads on Wednesday and got a load of stuff from boots yesterday. Annoyingly as I was buying 2 lots each of infant calpol and infant neurofen they wouldn’t let me also buy cold and flu drinks/tablets so will go back for this tomorrow. We do already have loads of paracetamol and ibuprofen but am going to get some more. Got loads of toothbrushes for all 3 of us and toothpaste. They had no hand gel but found a full one from when we went on holiday. Going to buy formula also. DC is on normal milk but in case of issues/self isolation going to get formula and a prefect prep filter. Best get DH to get the machine out of storage. Going also to get yeast and bread flour in case we need to make bread as we’ve no room in freezer for bread really. Gah, this is a nightmare!!!

originalcatlady · 06/03/2020 07:45

@SingingBabooshkaBadly I tried to use this offer, but when it came to booking a slot, they had no availability.

UptobedNOW · 06/03/2020 07:48

I have an Ocado shop arriving this morning. The online receipt shows only 2 substitutes and 1 out of stock out of a £200 Shock shop. Really pleased that we will be ok for a few weeks with the other stuff I've prepped if we do need to self isolate.

VenetoResident · 06/03/2020 07:55

@ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu

Hope I tagged the right person - the school restrictions are making a massive difference here. The buses and trams that are normally rammed - I can't describe how horrible and full they get - are half empty. They've cut the timetable due to reduced demand which is frustrating as it increases the numbers per bus but they're also cleaning the buses taken out of use.

The kids are largely meeting outdoors - it's been 18 degrees here the last few days.

I've banned my kids from using public transport as I'm worried they'll catch something / pass on something else.

RequiredUsrname · 06/03/2020 08:09

Panic buying is here as well. I had already made up a stash for brexit and then kept hold of it for this (checked the dates on everything). I've never panic bought and built up my stash over a period of about 2months slowly. My family did laugh at me but then text me to say the shelves are bare!

I'm a bit cross . I have loo roll in my prep stash but have run out of normal life stuff! And I'm not sodding breaking into my stash yet! Why can't people be sensible! Now I have to go out to source bloody loo roll and other stuff because other people are panic buying ConfusedHmm

EnidBlyton · 06/03/2020 08:16

thank you @SingingBabooshkaBadly

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 06/03/2020 08:18

@originalcatlady that’s a shame. I suppose it varies depending on area. They are booking three days ahead round here so I thought it was worth going for one anyway. You can always book their first available slot and then cancel the day before if you’ve managed to pick everything up in the meantime. I’m going to book weekly deliveries for a few weeks in advance today I think.

originalcatlady · 06/03/2020 08:20

I also couldn't book asda or Tesco, as no slots available. Clearly a regional issue.

LittleSwede · 06/03/2020 08:54

Last time I had 'just the flu' I ended up in A&E as couldn't breathe properly. Prescribed steroid inhaler and asthma inhaler (not asthmatic), 24 hours later DM develops pneumonia (we were staying with her) so another trip to doctors, 48 hours later DD (3 at the time) developed 40 degree fever which didn't come down with Calpol, another A&E trip.... Just the flu eh?

NatoPMT · 06/03/2020 09:07

@VenetoResident, Italians always think I’m Italian, but it’s the first time it’s happened on the internet 😂

Puppycorn · 06/03/2020 09:08

Arthritis drug Actemra (tocilizumab) is now being tested says local news from India as Roche has rolled out $2million worth of the meds to China.

lexloofah · 06/03/2020 09:12

fuckthiswind yes calm before the storm feeling here.

I have been following since thread 8-ish and this reminds me a bit of when we lived in an area that was prone to hurricanes.

We did a lot of prep then but this is different as in then we knew when tropical storms and hurricanes were going to arrive and how strong they would be, this slow burn and lack of information is excruciating.

NutellaQuest · 06/03/2020 09:25

Thanks SingingBabooshkaBadly. The glands under my ears/back of jaw are sore too. I have taken everything possible to knock whatever it is on the head. Grin

Here's an idea for all super-preppers. Might be worth having a table of meds taken to avoid over-dosing and making sure adults know what has been taken/when. Especially useful if you end up in a sickness tag-team of childcare.
