Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

OYBBK.

Did you not learn from the tin on toe? Or nearly lamping DH with a tin from the loft? Are those builders finished yet.

Ps bar soap is bloody good at removing stains. It needs to soak for half an hour on textiles to do its work. Cold water only.

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 10:45

People talking about it in work now as someone in another office is self isolating (I think after coming back from a trip). The 'it's just flu/a bad cold' brigade are out in full force and it's causing me rage!

RhubarbTea try my post back on last thread about this if you haven't already

Situation on eBay may have changed by now of course, or you may have found some in the meantime. Hope you get sorted Smile

Boreda · 06/03/2020 10:47

@JustMeAndMyTins that makes sense thank you.

www.boots.com/nasaleze-travel-barrier-spray-800mg-10279758

Has anyone tried this by any chance says in the description

"Study showed that Nasaleze Travel was capable of significantly reducing production of H5N1 Avian Flu virus (Bird Flu)"

Might be worth a shot

Very quck google for home made soap recipe led to this possibly useful craft ingredient soap base

mumoftwodc · 06/03/2020 10:56

Just come back from Home Bargains. No hand soap, no dettol spray or antibacterial wipes, no paracetamol or ibuprofen. Lots of toilet roll though. Stopped at Iceland on way home and they had paracetamol and a huge bottle of dilutable dettol so grabbed one if those.

I have been wearing gloves out this last week. I'm very conscious of trolleys and baskets and using the pin machine if I go over £30.

Coronavirus: Cork University Hospital staff to self-isolate

https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-europe-51767325?twitterr_impression=true

Neome · 06/03/2020 10:58

Normal soap enables virus to be washed off your hands with the water (& sebum from hands, hence drying +need moisturiser).

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 10:58

You seen the latest on the BBC website that we won't run out in supermarkets. Well a. we already have and b. I don't want to have to go to a supermarket!!

Also Prof Whitty said of those confirmed to have the virus in the UK, 18 had recovered and around 45 had been self-isolating at home.

Well that leaves 53 in hospital because they are poorly then :(

burntpinky · 06/03/2020 10:59

@rhij86 congrats to you too! Legal sector. I’m just hoping that the RCOG come out and say it has no effect, then I might relax a bit! At moment I can’t enjoy fact we are pregnant through worry!

itsnotjustflu · 06/03/2020 11:01

I can't even get normal soap!!

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 11:03

@burntpinky nope completely different sector to me then.
I know what you mean! Hopefully there is some more definitive answers soon, especially for those early on in pregnancy, that will put peoples minds at ease.

@Boreda thanks - just checked and the closest store to me that has it in stock is still a good 20min drive away. I have a couple of bottles at home so will leave it at that for now and just keep checking local shops on the off chance.

ifonly4 · 06/03/2020 11:03

Neome if I was self isolating, I was hoping I could go for a walk up on our local hill. It's about a 10 min walk to the bottom, streets are fairly quiet on approach so easy to avoid others.

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 11:04

@itsnotjustflu ridiculous isn't it. I'm glad I picked up 2 of the refillable bags for our handwash at the weekend as the shelves have been stripped bare ever since.

AlohaMolly · 06/03/2020 11:09

My GP surgery has finally got notices up on the door asking people that have traveled to a list of countries that feel unwell not to enter and to go home and call 111. I called them earlier and there’s nothing on their phone announcements though.

Going to have a serious chat with DP tonight about upping his business insurance so he’s covered.

AlohaMolly · 06/03/2020 11:10

Also, is anyone else expecting to hear a few more deaths today? If the total is 115 as of yesterday, 1 death is well below the WHO mortality rate Sad

ScatteredMama82 · 06/03/2020 11:10

@Neome we live rurally. If we have to self-isolate I'll be marching the kids out on walks every day. We can walk miles and not see a soul thankfully. We are the last house in the village, so we can turn left out of our garden and straight into open fields.

burntpinky · 06/03/2020 11:13

It’s also not as if I can drink through this if we take shelter!!!

Going to stock up on sweets and chocolates however

rhij86 · 06/03/2020 11:15

Breaking news update from daily fail - over 1,200 Canary Wharf workers are sent home from hedge fund firm after a visitor was diagnosed with CV. Staff have been told to get taxis home rather than the tube.

mumoftwodc · 06/03/2020 11:17

@Boreda I just had a look at the nasaleze travel and found this article

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/18029341/

On the back of this I've ordered some so thanks for mentioning it. I ordered from Modern Herbals as Boots and Amazon out of stock.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2020 11:17

Black eyed you are right :(
I'm going to relocate tins to a less dangerous location. I'm a slow learner.
