Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Emotional Prep Thread

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

That's the question. Is there enough beds in the NHS for all the cases that may need to be in hospital? Not even the ICU patients

Cant see them being able to build a hospital in a week

side eyes jersey that seems to have been trying to find a plot to build a new hospital on for about a decade let alone build the fucking thing

sideorderofchips · 05/03/2020 21:25

7 new cases in Republic of Ireland

misscockerspaniel · 05/03/2020 21:29

sideorderofchips be fair - it sounds like that they have narrowed it down to 81 sites for the new hospital Grin

sideorderofchips · 05/03/2020 21:33

@misscockerspaniel urgh don't. Honestly our hospital is at capacity already. The day they diagnose a case over here is the day this island will become carnage.

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 21:34

Mojo there’s some strong projection there too, displacing anger on to you when you threaten the denial defence 😔

I’m starting to get jittery af

In the last 48 hours, 5 of my deliveries have messed up - I’ve just had a text from the pet food supplier saying there’s a problem with my order, due on Monday (was due today, but my freezer delivery yesterday messed up and they sent a fridge, so I had to reschedule the frozen pet food delivery as a result)

I ordered some melatonin from an online chemist, it hasn’t arrived and I can’t reorder as it’s “experiencing technical difficulties”

Just niggling at me that it feels like the systems I take for granted are starting to fail

Please tell me I’m being premature and it’s coincidence and everyone else’s deliveries are running smoothly

tinkywinkyshandbag · 05/03/2020 21:47

Oh my that pandemic pack, it's thorough but I can't cope with buying kelly kettles and duct tape to make shelters, buying extra food is enough for me. If things get that bad, all bets are off.

VenetoResident · 05/03/2020 21:52

NatoPMT - are you near me? I have a massive bottle of melatonin.

I read the below on Twitter. Any thoughts? DS1 worsened yesterday and was diagnosed with bronchitis today. He's had pneumonia and now bronchitis within a few weeks. Neither have merited a swab. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

We’re missing community transmission among the young and healthy and are using our most vulnerable (sick/elderly) as canaries in a coal mine

This is a travesty and unethical. Until widespread testing is available, nothing else matters

tryingtoprep · 05/03/2020 21:59

Thanks for the new thread. I can't keep up!

I'm another one feeling jittery today. Well stocked up but starting to think we need more loo roll and Dettol. DP's work cancelled a conference planned but they still haven't adopted wfh policy.

Only had time to skim the last page or two from the previous thread. Is it true parliament might bring forward recess? I'd be furious if they did. If they expect us to continue as usual, they damn well need to lead by example!

@wheresmymojo sounds like my DP last week. He's scared and was in denial. He's come round now but he doesn't like talking about it. I hope yours calms down.

@NatoPMT I hope it's just a blip. I had an Amazon and eBay delivery arrive ok today.

echobench · 05/03/2020 22:04

Sorry @wheresmymojo. My mental arithmetic sucks.

And in fact the Italian mortality rates suggest that any new mutation is far deadlier than the original Chinese version.

MoonlightMistletoe · 05/03/2020 22:09

WHO Chief :

We're concerned that in some countries the level of political commitment & the actions that demonstrate that commitment don't match the level of the threat we all face. This is
NOT a drill
NOT the time to give up
NOT a time for excuses
This is a time for pulling out all the stops

In some countries .... UK!

IKEA888 · 05/03/2020 22:13

in western Scotland here and we've run out of loo roll!
none to be found anywhere tonight.
had to borrow a roll from a friend!
it a all gone a bit silly

Wobblywibblywoo · 05/03/2020 22:14

Just wondering does anyone else feel awkward when out shopping? like people are watching what you are putting in your trolley due to all the panic buying, I went today didn’t buy anything out of the ordinary but felt almost guilty can’t really explain it, just a really weird atmosphere.

OneTimePrepper · 05/03/2020 22:17

@wheresmymojo Thats called normalcy bias.

RageAgainst84 · 05/03/2020 22:19

@peachgreen same here. I have gone into debt. So the next few months will be v tight, but I would rather that and know we’ll be fed. It’s horrible.

I am shocked at how many people are in denial about the impact this could have. A few family members won’t talk about it to me anymore and haven’t done any prep at all :( tried warning them that panic buying is likely to start this weekend with vengeance but “it’s just flu” 🤦🏻‍♀️

RageAgainst84 · 05/03/2020 22:19

(Name change btw)

RageAgainst84 · 05/03/2020 22:20

@Wobblywibblywoo Yes!!! And if anyone sneezes or coughs and you make eye contact it is also awkward (made eye contact with a slightly Asian man earlier and really hoped he didn’t think it was race driven, I’m scared of ANYONE who coughs or sneezes atm!)

tryingtoprep · 05/03/2020 22:21

@VenetoResident Your poor DS. I hope he starts to recover very soon. I thought Italy was being more proactive than the UK. Perhaps not.

That's a good tweet. The wording sticks out though. The press, governments referring to "the elderly and sick". Too distancing for many people. Implication it's those on their way out already. I have several relatives in their 70s and 80s. Fit and active, but also the risk starts youngish.

Do people think 60 is that old? Boris is only five years off 60 - and I don't think people see him as elderly. Likewise "the sick". Many people with preexisting conditions aren't actually ill. Many are young. Many are working and lead full active lives. The message needs to be clearer, as unfortunately many people won't worry unless they think it directly affects them - and governments won't act to protect us unless there's public pressure.

*Asian looking

itsnotjustflu · 05/03/2020 22:28

Well said WHO chief..... Boris needs to take a leaf out of other countries books before this gets out of hand

@Wobblywibblywoo yes yes yes!! awkward...... and I shopped at the quietest supermarket ever today. I was only topping up. I felt sorry for the guy at checkout. The store had sold out of all soap of any kind and they had no gel at the checkout for them or for us. He was clearly concerned about the number of people he'd served the day before

Maybe all the 'It's just flu' people will never buy enough food in because they will still be trying to convince themselves they are right!!

@tryingtoprep no 60 isn't old... not to me anyway

itsnotjustflu · 05/03/2020 22:29

My DH has bought a freezer without telling me and apparently he's going to fill it just with bacon, sausages and bread. He soon won't be fit and healthy with that level of salt consumption. He's lost the plot!!

FecktheBoss · 05/03/2020 22:30

Checking in

Catmaiden · 05/03/2020 22:31

I went out to run a few last urgent (unavoidable) errands today, shops very quiet, shelves quite empty. I was very careful to stay well clear of people in shops, and wait until the tills were clear, used sanitiser after each shop and wiped trolley handles before I used them.
Got home, brought in stuff, washed hands, unpacked stuff into a designated waiting place, washed hands again.
Im leaving non perishable goods untouched for a few days in the hope that any virus dies off as I can't sanitise everything.

Anyone know how long cv might last on tins and bottles? Or is that a worry too far?

GalOopNorth · 05/03/2020 22:32

Government reveals they are already asking Coronavirus patients to stay at home because of the pressure on beds.
