Prepping For Pandemic..... 11

Thread 11.

This prepping for a pandemic pack was posted one one of the previous threads, I thought I’d post for this thread as there’s more people joining the threads. I had a quick scan through the last couple of thread to find a list that’s been posted a few times but couldn’t find it. The pack seems a bit end of days in some parts buts it’s got some useful ideas.

Pandemic Preparedness Pack

The Emotional Prep thread started by @Neome might be worth a look for those of us feeling anxious as things ramp up.

Emotional Prep Thread

Also attached a screenshot of a post on previous threads by @blackeyesusan (hope you don’t mind) with storage ideas for those of us living in smaller homes.

Anyone else prepping for home schooling? Think we've got enough craft stuff in and maths books. Mine liked the idea of creating their own timetable.

Delicatelyscentedflavour · 08/03/2020 10:31

How and why the fuck are you all doing this.

The world has already ended according to the brexit panic or did you miss that one.

Get on with your lives ffs.

Possibilities:
(1) Is being un-hypocritical and therefore posting this on every thread on MN, particularly if to do with towel laundering.
(2) Loves sound of own "voice." Entirely lacks sense of irony.

itsnotjustflu · 08/03/2020 10:35

@cherrypi yes I bought all sorts in. Started on SATS maths today anyway

Yes @delicatelyscentedflavour you clearly have a life. Best get back to it asap.

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 10:37

Tumbleweeds......

RageAgainst84 · 08/03/2020 10:39

Someone clearly isn’t watching (or understanding) the news then 😂

sideorderofchips · 08/03/2020 10:39

@Delicatelyscentedflavour one can only wonder what point you are trying to make

Does it make you feel better to scoff at people who like to be prepared?

What harm are we doing you?

I'm always intrigued about people who do this. Scoff and point saying 'oh my god these guys are crazy'.
And yet if it does all go wrong we are the sort of people you will be asking for help from.

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 10:39

Yeah I know. I have told him that if he passes it on, that’s more strain on the nhs, plus he weakens other people with serious illness and drastically increases their chances of being badly ill if they then contract cv

I’ve told him

His work is not the usual work FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL. I really can’t say anything about it on here due to my swearing outburst

He doesn’t have a manager

Orangecake123 · 08/03/2020 10:40

Going to work with flu A is beyond stupid, and shows how selfish people can be.

My aunt works at a hospital in a lab in London. Someone went to Lombardy and actually wanted to come back to work. The trust wasn't keen and she also kicked up a fuss with HR and said if she was fine to work she should sit next to the HR woman.

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 10:41

Just occurred to me, typing DM in caps alerts them to possibly interesting posts 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Orangecake123 · 08/03/2020 10:41

They caved.

I'm going with my sister to do a quick shop at Aldi when it opens at 11am.

Neome · 08/03/2020 10:42

Hi Delicatelyscentedflavour if you read all 11 threads I can understand they might have upset you in which case do have a look at the emotional prepping thread.

If not you might not have realised that most of us on these threads have a family member with a disability or life limiting or life restricting condition so it’s much easier to get on with our usual lives if we never have to factor in time for panic buying.

🙏🏽

FuckThisWind · 08/03/2020 10:44

Nato I just figure that having a sweary user name means they won't screen shot my posts.

However, I've seen plenty of journalism in recent days that just uses the get out clause "One MN user said blah blah"

Lazy Fuckers!

84TinsOfBeans · 08/03/2020 10:45

@NatoPMT see attached photos. Hope it helps

You are probably seeing this thread on the 'I'm on' section. Yellow arrow in photo.

To see other recent active threads on many types of topics. Go to 'active'. Red arrow.

To search for a specific topic press on 'topics'. Green arrow.

To escape this thread and see what other threads (if any) you are on click on 'I'm on at the top left of screen. Black arrow.

One thing I wish I'd known earlier especially I'm fast paced threads like this is that you can bookmark the most recent comment you have read by swiping on that comment to the left where you press 'bookmark'. See second photo.

Thank you beans!! Despite there being no photos attached 😂😂😂

Excellent tactic fuckthiswind - and your point also illustrates that they could just make a quote up with no supporting evidence. Oh...

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 10:49

I’ve also seen them edit out swear words though. Is nothing sacred!? (Especially public posts on a public forum, I mean 🙄 😂)

TipseyTorvey · 08/03/2020 10:54

I just popped to my local waitrose for the first time this week. No scary empty shelves apart from hand wash and own brand painkillers. Plenty of nurofen though so it must just be certain areas. Plenty of loo roll 😊.

hankyspanky · 08/03/2020 11:01

I'd just like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has contributed to my gardening question. I've not had time to read through properly but hopefully will be able to later and respond to everyone.

Unfortunately, some of my family live in Italy and due to the fast moving situation we've missed the window for them to leave.

I'm going to try and sleep for a couple of hours and hope to wake up and find this is all a horrible nightmare.

VenetoResident · 08/03/2020 11:04

We have just done a £350 'top up' of junk food.

We went slightly outside the quarantine which I believe actually starts tomorrow. Felt happier going there as they won't be locked down for deliveries.

Our town mayor just posted this guidance (apologies for poor translation)

🔴 CORONAVIRUS - UPDATE 🔴

The new Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers approved in the past hours provides for a series of requirements that I have tried to summarize and will be valid from now until April 3
Updates will follow today as soon as we get clarification on the less clear points.

MOBILITY:
Avoid moving incoming and out in the territory of the Province, except for movements motivated by proven work needs or situations of need or for health reasons;
Can we go to work? Looks like it. However today we will be summoned to a table where we will ask for clarity about the movements made to go to work both inside and outside the province and on the transit of goods. Updates will follow in the day.
You can return to your home, home or residence. So if anyone is out of town due to work or holiday reasons you can go back in.

SCHOOL:
Suspension of educational services for childcare and schools of every order and rank. For the duration of the suspension of educational activities, school managers activate ways of teaching remotely; we are also working to ensure that there is the sanitation of school facilities before reopening.

SPORT AND RECREATIVE ACTIVITIES:
Suspension of gyms sports activities, sports centers, swimming pools, wellness centers, cultural centers, elderly center.
Suspended events and sports competitions of every order and discipline, in public or private places;

CULT PLACES:
Opening is conditioned to respect the distance between attenders of at least one meter.
Civil and religious ceremonies, including funeral ceremonies are suspended;

PUBLIC EXERCIES:
Allow catering and bar activities from 6.00 pm to 18.00 pm, with the obligation of the manager to put customers in the conditions to respect the distance of at least one meter between them;

OTHER COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES:
Opening conditional upon the adoption of organizational measures to avoid assemberations and ensure that frequenters respect the distance of at least one meter between them;

MANIFESTATIONS:
Suspension of events and events of any nature (e.g. cinema, theatres, clubs, etc. ), carried out in a public or private place;

SICK:
Recommendations are made to people with symptoms of respiratory infection and fever (37.5) to remain at their home and limit social contacts to maximum.

VenetoResident · 08/03/2020 11:09

Keep in mind school has already been suspended for two weeks.

BanKittenHeels · 08/03/2020 11:11

That link is so interesting Nato because the area I work in now has 3 positive patients but is listed as 0. This is reported as fact in our local press and is information I have from colleagues, as I’m part of a committee that deals with PHE.
I wonder how up to date their information truly is. I believe my borough has 1 confirmed earlier in the week but they were in a hospital in a different neighbouring borough (now moved to Liverpool), 2 on Thurs/Fri and a further case confirmed yesterday.

tryingtoprep · 08/03/2020 11:11

Goodness @NatoPMT I wish your friend a speedy recovery but he really shouldn't go to work with flu. Even with a vaccine, it can still kill - and, unlike Covid it seems, that includes children. He really shouldn't put others at risk.

The testing delay is so worrying. We're heading rapidly towards an Italy situation.

@Delicatelyscentedflavour We're all getting on with our lives, thanks. We're taking some sensible precautions too. You might like to do so also.

BanKittenHeels · 08/03/2020 11:12

Get on with your lives ffs.

Try the same, petal.
Off you pop.

NatoPMT · 08/03/2020 11:14

Actually, Venetos posts are making me feel less anxious and a bit reassured

It must be horrible for those involved so I don’t mean to give flippant but my reasoning is....

A Wuhan style lockdown would much more likely result in people dying at home alone, people not having food delivered and civil unrest

An Italy style quarantine means movement within the red zones and some normality, the ability to shop and lack of dependence on our inept government to deliver food directly to addresses

This is a much more liveable restriction and gives me hope that our prepping is for comfort not for staying alive

Polkadotdelight · 08/03/2020 11:16

Four cases in Wales now.
