I just went very prepper. I bought a dozen eggs, cracked them into my blender, whizzed them up and then poured them into little bags and have frozen them. I will report back tomorrow morning and let you know if the dc could taste the difference in their pancakes. Running out of eggs is my biggest concern as they seem to be in everything that I want to make from scratch. I found some powdered egg but it smells pretty bad and I dont really want to even try it (unless I have to)

Reminder to those of you living in rural areas and with oil heating systems. It is a good idea to check the level in your oil tank and think about ordering.

We have topped ours up a couple of weeks ago and got a large delivery of logs (around a year’s worth) in January so we are good to go.

Moodykat · 03/03/2020 21:17

@Sixp I'm not sure, that doesn't seem to be knowledge yet. I would imagine primary school pupils in a taxi would be a local taxi firm but we don't know if it was the driver or a previous passenger I don't think.

BridgeToTerabithia · 03/03/2020 21:20

There is now a confirmed case in the town where my DC go to school. Oldest wants to go to town tomorrow after school, but it is an adult who is bound to have been out and about, so not sure!

Gammeldragz · 03/03/2020 21:22

Ordered my monthly prescription over 2 weeks early (last Friday, usually only order the week before I run out) as I only get a month at a time (levothyroxine), DH went to collect today and they have issued me two month's worth, one lot issued Friday and another yesterday. Never happened before, I wonder if they wanted to make sure I had plenty in case they have supply issues? Maybe they realised why I'd ordered early. Or it was a cock up. Either way, I'm very happy! DS has plenty of inhalers now too. DH got a good amount of his psych meds, but only a month of the ADs, but they have been under review so I can understand not giving extra of those.
Still have a mountain of painkillers, but will add more if any in Lidl tomorrow.

Down to the last 3 cartons of passata, major prepping fail! Blush

@avocadoincident When dd was a baby we used this viral baby aquaint travel size ones when we were out and about and wipe it with a normal tissue. It was lovely and I am not sure if they still make it.

Puppycorn · 03/03/2020 21:23

Oops, not viral baby it’s vital baby.. 🤣🤣

Sunshinesky1981 · 03/03/2020 21:34

I have more or less finished my prep although no doubt will be adding stuff on. Got some surgical style gloves today in pound stretcher. They had loads in and think was a pack of 12 for 69p. Also got a couple of packets of cheap supermarket nappy sacks. Know it's not great for the environment, but figure if we do come down with something, the tissues can be put in the bag and tied straight away

Puppycorn · 03/03/2020 21:36

Does anyone know how to freeze leaves? I use fresh moringa leaves for my diabetic smoothie everyday and want to freeze some without the leaves getting freezer burns. Earlier today I was panicking about what to panic buy ... but then realised we don’t have a camping stove or bbq.. so was browsing some online dh saw and thinks I’m crazy extreme and that’s unlikely to happen. Did anyone buy it to be prepped Or am I just panicking unnecessarily

Gammeldragz · 03/03/2020 21:39

Had a look into the Zinz thing, apparently shortens colds by a day/30-40% but also has side effects. Definitely seems best delivered in lozenge form. Interesting...

Gammeldragz · 03/03/2020 21:41

@Puppycorn of you're blending them anyway could you blend with small amount of liquid and freeze in portions like ice cubes then add straight to smoothie? Works for spinach.

tryingtoprep · 03/03/2020 21:41

Thanks for the new thread.

I take a zinc supplement every day. Take it with Vitamin C. Are the lozenges a better way to ingest zinc? I'm not sure if it's worth buying them to take instead.

tryingtoprep · 03/03/2020 21:46

Just seen your post @Gammeldragz Interesting link, thanks. That explains why my supplement includes a small amount of copper. The article suggests zinc can cause copper deficiency. I don't think it's a problem if you occasionally use the lozenges rather than daily.

ofwarren · 03/03/2020 21:46

32 cases of #Coronavirus in the #Netherlands now

HasaDigaEebowai · 03/03/2020 21:47

Just ordered zinc lozenges. my throat is an area of weakness so it will be greta if these help.

FuckThisWind · 03/03/2020 21:47

I ordered some of the Zincovit lozenges with Vit C and Propolis from a pharmacist outlet on ebay a few hours ago.

Dad is a beekeeper and I have a lot of honey, which is useful for any sort of cold or sore throat in general. I've also done research into the antibacterial / antiviral properties of Propolis as I find it fascinating. Whether I am actually able to utilise the Propolis we have in any way is doubtful.

@FuckThisWind

They still had those on amazon earlier this evening as ordered some.

Springinsight · 03/03/2020 21:52

I take orange and zinc fizzy water tablets.

Not religiously.

I see why the zinc tablets are thought to be better.

I think everything in moderation, salt water swill, zinc lozenges, apple cider vinegar with the mother etc.

Huge chat about empty shelves on our local fb page.

In town. Shelves empty of hand gel, detergents, dry goods etc. Soups. But the slightly out of town shops are ok apparently.

Springinsight · 03/03/2020 21:55

Re freezing stuff. Can we say then that pretty much anything can be frozen... And if I freeze mushrooms should I chop them up as I would for normal dish I use them in, then add them from frozen?

Same for peppers?

Freeze lemons whole?

Chop up garlic and onion and freeze?
Freeze whole garlic?

itsnotjustflu · 03/03/2020 22:03

It's times like these I wish we had solar panels. Went to a house tonight which had them and they clearly didn't have a care in the world about electric costs/no electric. They had 1 fridge full, 1 freezer full, 1 chest freezer full, 1 drinks fridge full and an american fridge freezer full..... and I thought I was taking prepping a bit too seriously! #prepperenvy

avocadoincident · 03/03/2020 22:03

I say freeze everything, chopped beforehand including mushrooms and lemons

itsnotjustflu · 03/03/2020 22:03

p.s. I didn't get to see in their cupboards!

sideorderofchips · 03/03/2020 22:05

Did I see right in the news? 500 new cases in Italy??

Springinsight · 03/03/2020 22:06

Thank you avacado.
