It's got to Winchester? Pants. Supposed to be going to a Big Meeting there on Friday........ may see if I can make my excuses...

itsnotjustflu · 03/03/2020 22:54

@Tinnednut they have a very large and mostly empty garage. My DH said today it's time we got a chest freezer. But to be honest with what we have in the freezer, fridge and cupboards with a bit of careful planning it would all last ages anyway. We are the same as you.

My family are coming round and starting to worry and prep after actually calling me mental and weird last week 😂

Legoandloldolls · 03/03/2020 23:25

Give it a few weeks and the hand gel should come back in stock I reckon. Once everyone has a few bottles each. I cant see lots of people wanting to stock pile it ( I hope)

Legoandloldolls · 03/03/2020 23:28

My sister said hand gel doesn't work. I said it does. Ackward

Crimescenenow · 03/03/2020 23:28

NC. Went to a posh event in central London this evening. Every single posh bufty I met was fully on board with not shaking hands. Lots of slightly embarrassed elbow bumping going on Grin

Legoandloldolls · 03/03/2020 23:45

@newyearnewtwatname it looks like rubbing alchol is 70% so I would aim to get close to 9:1 ratio. If I was you I think that's going to be very watery so only make up very small amounts. Maybe inna 50ml bottle or half full 100ml spray. In fact I would be tempted to just put 45ml and 5ml and see what it's like.

Remember you dont need sterile hands just kill the bugs then you could put more Aloe on afterwards?

Worrying case from America. Woman who has symptoms of the virus is unable to get any advice and won't be tested.

IceWings · 04/03/2020 00:00

I also have all the symptoms but won’t be tested because I haven’t left the country. That’s just how it is. If you haven’t travelled they aren’t interested.

Legoandloldolls · 04/03/2020 00:11

Anyone who needs ibuprofen or paracetamol just ask over the counter. I got 96 today. I can have as many migraines as I want now without needing the chemist

I gave my dh my bank card. My last loo roll run has got him worried the zombies will attack.

I have what I need. I want to do so much more like get a generator for the freezer but i need to remember i dont NEED one. Maybe it's a longer term prep goal. I must say i think im a full convert now i have actually seen the benefits. It would have been handy two years ago when we lost power for a week.

All i have left to pay is two really decent Solar power banks. I have a Ebay one which doesn't charge via solar power at all Confused

Ssshhh.... dont tell dh but I can still use PayPal...

Must sit on hands after that and just do a weekly online top up. My food bill will be pretty cheap for a while now

With the US, I'm surprised more action hasn't been taken, given it's an election year. Unless we're not hearing about it here in the UK? How much autonomy do individual states have? The New York subway was disinfected (unlike the London tube). Is test criteria a state or federal criteria, I wonder how it works?

Trump and most (all?) the Democrat candidates are over sixty. Surely they want to protect themselves, if not others. They meet an awful lot of people doing those rallies across the country.

Wishing you well Icewings

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2020 00:32

Ice could be the unknown connection to another case of unknown origin that pops up and they are trying to trace. How will they ever know if they don't test? They could test a random selection of the not meeting criteria callers just to check they are getting it mostly right.

Arriving at these threads fairly late on. Was pleased to discover over the weekend that I already have plenty of nitrile gloves [useful in case I end up caring for relatives] and 11 FFP3 masks.

Have plenty of tins of food and a full baby chest freezer. But probably need to empty and repack the freezer. It's full enough there's not really enough room for me to make meals to freeze in individual portions. I don't have the kitchen space to have a bigger freezer / want to spend money on a new freezer now.

Trying to decide whether I want to buy a blood pressure monitor now or not. Seems like a useful thing to have in general.

Have plenty of most things around - need/want some more biscuits / bread [think I probably am going to have to rearrange the freezer enough to put a loaf there] - I have bread flour and a bread maker, but for everyday use I like shop bought bread. Also only have three cartons of UHT milk. Don't really want to buy lots of it as I wouldn't usually use it, but feels important to have an effectively unlimited supply of coffee. Maybe I want some marvel / coffee whitener for emergencies?

NEW: South Korea reports 142 new cases of coronavirus and 1 new death, taking country's total to 5,328 cases t.co/eUoE2bjB9j

ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu · 04/03/2020 01:33

Finally caught up with the thread, I think.

Sorry I forget who mentioned zinc lozenges, i was looking at vitamins in Tesco last week as I'm almost finished my current pack, I spotted these suckable/chewable zinc and vit c at 50p a packet. I think they must have been on clearance because looking online they're £3ish and upwards. If they're a similar product it be worth having a neb in store in case they're on clearance all over the U.K.

New proposals for Italy. There should be a new decree today:

Avoid events for 30 days, including sports, which involve crowding people and not respecting the safety distance of at least one meter.

People over 75 and people over 65 who are ill are encouraged not to go to crowded places.

It is also recommended that everyone avoid hugs and handshakes whenever possible, and keep a meter away from other people.

Postponement of all conferences and congresses, especially those relating to health personnel and utilities, to make it available for the Coronavirus emergency.

Among the recommendations, also to avoid jewelry while washing your hands, because they are an obstacle to the correct way of doing it, and to avoid exchanges of bottles and glasses, especially during sports activities.

The committee then recommends that municipalities and associations offer individual recreational activities, perhaps to be carried out outdoors.

Limit the stay of relatives of the sick in the waiting rooms of the emergency rooms and visits of family members of the elderly guests in the rest homes.

If they were adopted, the measures would be valid for 30 days, across the country, and should be evaluated every two weeks on the basis of the outbreak.
