oooh, I do love a new thread

OP posts:
SparkyMalarky · 17/01/2009 18:11

So - will actually update here instead

Joyful - all that at your scan does sound like a right malarky but at least bump is all good?

Dan - the plaster cast sounds so cool! I thought about doing it last time with DS, but think I would be too upset at the size of me this time . Have already had one person comment on how huge I am (and I measured exactly right for my number of weeks at my last mw appt!!) Why do people think when you PG they can comment on your size and touch you?!!

Other than that - am all fine, starting to get some SPD and back pain which is really annoying as didn't get it until 37 weeks with DS (and am only 23 weeks now!) but managed some yoga this morning and been for a walk this afternoon which helped (so had a cream tea to help replenish my energy!!)

Right - will have to go back to the other thread to check how everyone is as have the short term memory of a goldfish at the moment, so for now, hope everyone is doing ok..

How are those almost due doing? xx

OP posts:
Gentle · 17/01/2009 20:45

Hello, been reading through and decided that I feel sufficiently pregnant to join as am 8 weeks today!

A little about me - one child born (just) in difficult circumstances and one miscarriage at 16 weeks. Forgive me if a I'm a little cryptic, I'm reluctant to post too many identifying things due to a parent with extremely fuzzy boundary issues ;)

Me & partner are keeping this quiet partly to avoid people with good intentions "checking up" every 5 minutes (as if I don't already give myself a minor medical examination at every toilet visit), and partly because I am finding it easier not to either build up lots of hope or sink into fear - just coasting along refusing booze, trying not to smell anything sick-making, and pretending that the zeppelin race in my bra is due to global warming.

Nice to meet you all and thank you for chatting openly about the subject that affects so many but is still rather secretive.

downbutnotout · 17/01/2009 22:37

Thanks sparky for another shiny new thread.

Welcome bump and gentle - take it easy on yourselves and vent to your heart's content.

No sign of ds yet - 8 days and counting, but I promise not to update every day!

SparkyMalarky · 18/01/2009 10:00

Hi gentle - nice to have you here, as dbno says, you have to take it easy, a day at a time (sometimes an hour at a time!) and feel free to come and share all your worries with us any time

dbno - I love a progress report! (have you seen the labour threads on the childbirth section? Gripping!!) you sound like you're ok tho? Not too fed up?

OP posts:
downbutnotout · 18/01/2009 11:43

No, to tbh I don't feel enitrely ready for ds yet, but I wonder if I ever will be. Have still not really accepted there is a baby on the way despite the overwhelming evidence. If he arrives around his due date that's fine by me, as long as I don't have to put up with the in-laws for too long!

VillageMum · 18/01/2009 13:40

Hello bump, I had a mmc in September and feel just the same as you do... it's so hard to feel 'safe' once it's happened to you, but you're very nearly there now!

Gentle, welcome, I'm 8 weeks this weekend too... LOL at your post: is it YOUR parent who has the boundary issues? If so, snap!! (We haven't told a soul in RL yet either!)

dbno, good luck with the wait! Worth it all; boys are LOVELY!

VJay, so glad to hear you've got your dating scan info through; I've no idea yet when mine will be but have another reassurance scan this Saturday for which I'm paying a small fortune... worth it though for the brief period of sanity it buys me. Hope you are feeling OK.

Wheelybug · 18/01/2009 14:23

Hi All - found you !

Welcome gentle and bump. Hope your stay is long !

DBNO - oh do keep us updated. You know if you don't post for 10 minutes we'll start thinking you've gone off and had him ! I have a friend who is 6 days over due who lives a few doors away from me and everytime I go out I can't help but look to see if the car's still there.

daisyj · 18/01/2009 14:46

Hi all

Been a while since I posted. Good to see all the new people ? hope you all have happy worry-free pregnancies.

joyful - how frustrating about your scan ? that they were so incompetent when they booked you in.

dbno - backache sounds like a promising sign ? won?t be long now . . . I?ll be checking back every day from now on.

dan - what a fab idea the plaster cast is ? just think how fascinating it?ll be for your dc when they are old enough to know what it is.

sparky ? I know how you feel. Look at my bump at 27 weeks ? I?ve posted a pic ? it?s the biggest thing ever ? I do love it, but it scares me that I?ve got 2 more months of growing to do. And my boss comments on it EVERY DAY. I don?t mind too much, as that's just what she's like, but one of my colleagues did get quite annoyed on my behalf. And sometimes I do wish a day could go by without someone asking me if it?s twins! Hope the yoga is helping with the SPD (and of course cream teas are a well-known cure).

scotlass - I know everyone here understands exactly what you mean ? I also look at October babies, and think about my first little one. And then feel guilty, somehow. I know I shouldn?t, though ? there?s nothing wrong with feeling what you feel. x

wheely - glad all?s going well . It?s lovely to feel excited at last, isn?t it? I?m 30 weeks now, and only just starting to feel it?s real.

Sabs1981 · 18/01/2009 17:28

Thanks for the welcome mermaidspurse, ashleighbee, vm, vjay and everyone else..

ashleighbeee yes I do think im very lucky in being able to book a 7 week scan in, and it being a self-referral, especially as ive had only 1 mc and that was my first pregnancy. Lots of places dont do that unless youve had 3 mc's. It really does depend on where you are in the country i think

napa good luck for wednesday..

vjay how does decaff tea taste? im thinking of buying it. Any brand in particular?

joyfuleyes what a palaver over your scan...dont wonder your worried. But hope youre not stressing too much

downbutnotout must be only 7 days to go now...how are you feeling??

dan39 only a few weeks to go for you too...good to hear all is ok with baby

scotlass dont feel bad at all about feeling that way.... i honestly understand how you're feeling

wheelybug good to hear things are going well for you too...all these positive stories give me so much hope!

babyVLump welcome! you sound like me...I had a mmc at 11 week in september and now im only 4+1 weeks and im just stressing and worrying about everything. I read on MN about chemical pregnancies so now worried that might happen to me especially as I tested quite early.

sparkymalarky well done on new thread!

gentle welcome to you too...hope this thread helps...

well ive booked to see my GP this friday and my 7 week scan on 10th feb....hoping the beanie gets that far..like i said im stressing so much, expecting AF to arrive, I even took another pregnancy test again yesterday to reassure myself, luckily it was positive..

anyway another week of jury service next week for me, havent had a proper case to sit on yet...lucky ive got some good books to read!

downbutnotout · 18/01/2009 18:52

Thanks one and all for the lovely messages - I won't worry about tmi on the arrival of ds or otherwise any more!

Very nice day today with leisurely pub lunch (but no baby yet). Btw, I must just sing the praises of Becks no-alcohol beer. In my opinion the taste is indistinguishable from the full-fat version, so it allows you to feel like you are having a "proper" drink. Highly recommended for any beer drinking pg ladies out there! (Although it hasn't entirely quashed my cravings for red wine )

dan39 · 18/01/2009 20:47

Hello all - ooh new thread!! Lovely. My plaster cast looks fantastic - we are gonna take a pic of me and dh bump to bump with him 'wearing' mine! Might post it if it comes out well...

dbno very excited for you not least of all cos I am next! I am kinda ready now, tbh - feel like I have done the pg thing and want to meet her now and see what the next bit is like. I am going to just try to enjoy the next few weeks, try not to get frustrated. Its quite uncomfy a lot of the time, is the only thing!

Sparky ta for the thread, and you are right about people's comments, I get the 'is it twins' thing all the time! Not been touched by too many people tho, thank goodness! At 37 weeks I am measuring 38 cms so am hoping thats it on the expansion front...I have lost weight thru this, in reality as i have only gained 1stone and 6lbs...and my watch is loose..and from behind I look better than I have done in years!!

Went to an active birth yoga class today, it was okay and I will practice my breathing every day (so long as I remember it...) I am notoriously bad at breathing in and out thru the right bits (nose and mouth I mean!) as well as left and right - first exercise we did today I turned the wrong way to everyone else and dh was pissing himself laughing!

Welcome as well to bump (great name) and gentle - its a great place to worry and frett along with everyone else! Sticky thougts to you both - and to everyone else!

tsom · 18/01/2009 21:47

dan LOL at dh wearing your bump cast - at 30 weeks my dhs stomach is still bigger than mine (not because mine is small either)

teachertalk · 18/01/2009 21:55

Hello, could I join you all?. I am a fellow 'knicker checker' (strictly white ones only). having had 3mmc;s in 2 years (also DS age 5) the last 4 weeks since I had positive test have dragged. I am on progesterone and aspirin (even tho all tests showed nothing wrong).

Anyway, have had some light brown spots (sorry for TMI) on Saturday (nothing today) so off for scan tomorrow at EPU. Can't believe this is happening again just hoping it is just a scare. I normally get to about 10 weeks before spots come.

I am so jealous of all you lucky ladies in the second/third trimester - seems a long way off/ impossible right now. Good luck to you all.

dan39 · 18/01/2009 22:51

And you teachertalk - good luck with the scan but bear in mind its early too so even if they can't find anything it might be just that its too early. No need for aplogies for TMI here either - there is no such thing!!

cornflakegirl · 19/01/2009 09:20

sabs - I drink decaf tea too - it tastes like tea . No particular difference between brands - but I can't really distinguish full fat tea brands either.

VJay · 19/01/2009 10:03

sabs I drink any decaff, very helpful I know, I had headaches when I first went onto it, but they soon stopped. To be honest I don't know any difference.
fozzie I have had a scan already, that was due to all the spotting I was having, this next scan is my dating scan.
vm I am feeling sooo sick, but I take a lot of hope out of it. I wasn't like this the last 2 times when i miscarried.
Hope everyone else is doing OK xx

aquababe · 19/01/2009 11:08

just signing in to the new thread

Hello and welcome to all the newbies

teachertalk good luck with scan.
We all felt like you that 2nd and 3rd trimesters seem a life time away. 3rd still does for me.

I've signed up for a pregancy yoga class, trying to be positive about the birth

youknownothingofthecrunch · 19/01/2009 11:16

Good luck teachertalk will be thinking of you.

Having a few problems with dh at the moment, could really do with a bit more rl support from him, but I don't think it's going to happen.

dbno and dan39 very exciting! Any news?

Good Morning all! I missed a lot over the weekend it seems! Hello to all new people and welcome, you're definitely in the right place, have only been on here a short while myself and feel so reassured when i need the reassurance! I am pleased i found the new thread!

How is everyone getting on?

Teachertalk It is brilliant that you're having a scan today.. how far gone are you now? Good luck with it I am sure all is going to be fine this time, and def no need to apologise for TMI here! Just to reiterate what Dan said, it is early. I am still on normal Tea - have cut down to 2 cups every other day.. I am a PG Tips girl and i just cannot get myself off it, however i am good in all other areas so i allow myself this little indulgance.. does anyone know the safe amount that you can have, my dr said 6 cups a day of normal tea but that seems very high?

Dan what a lovely reminder of your pregnant days to have.. and a good keepsake to show the baby what happened to mummy's tummy!! I hope that i get to the stage so i can have one done, i hadnt even heard of this! Learning so much on here already!

What I am loving most about the thread as i read it, is that so many of us are at different stages, it is such a positive thing to read about the pregnant ladies on here who are almost delivering their baby's.. It definitely gives me much more hope, so thanks all of you 20+ weekers that keep us updated, I must admit when I first joined i thought people would fall off the radar at 12 weeks..

I am feeling good today, apart from being up in the night with sickness.. I am thankful for it though.. not going to complain too much. I am very excited for Saturday as I'm having my next scan (9 weeks & 4 days). I am starting to feel more positive and strangely this morning was the first time i actually thought of myself as a pregnant lady!

Hope everyone else is okay, sorry i havent read all of the messages, so much has happened on here since the last time i checked.. including the beginning of a new thread!

Oh and Napa I think we're going to see the Edgeware birthing centre.. just to consider all options! I am hoping to be able to select Stoke Mandeville as 1st choice hospital as i have heard very good things about it, have a feeling my dr will put her foot down and we'll be at Watford! Ahh we'll see, after all i am still yet to register it with dr!
xx

herbaceous · 19/01/2009 11:21

I'm going to take the plunge and add myself to the list. First midwife appointment tomorrow - at 17 weeks! Hopefully she'll find the heartbeat, and all will be well, so adding myself isn't tempting fate.

Finally got my letter of permanent employment yesterday, so I can come from the hospital and announce I'm up the duff. It's not going to go down well. At all.

ashleigh good luck on Saturday - it's a funny feeling when you start to feel pregnant, both terrifying and brilliant, hope it all goes well for you.

herb welcome to the list! I'm glad you've got that letter, hope your employers are understanding - as they should be.

dan39 · 19/01/2009 11:44

Herb welcome to the list!! Its a big step!

I was realy uncomfy and miserable yesterday evening - really ahrp pain on the right hand side, felt like I had a ruler inside me, poking me at the top and the bottom! It must be jut moving - its so strong! But I couldn't get comfy at all. So am having a bit of a duvet day today and feeling sorry for myself.

Also concerned as they are doing roadworks on the road which is my route to hosp 7pm - 6am for the next 2 weeks ! This could mean I end up being transferred to the other hosp which I don't want...gotta think positive and assume all will be well and we will stay here..

Diji · 19/01/2009 12:46

Thanks Sparky

LoobyLou36 · 19/01/2009 13:01

Hi all..

Just been catching up on all the newbies and oldies news.

I can't believe I am now 25+1!! I'm having lots of movement now, especially at night. DH said he could feel the baby kicking when he was cuddling up to me last night - bless.

I had a consultant appointment last week and had glucose in my wee so I have to go to the MW next week for a follow up check. Then 2 weeks after that I have another scan (to check baby size is okay due to pre-existing high BP), so I get to see babe again! Must remember to tell sonographer we don't want to know the flavour.

All is going well so far tho - they are just keeping an eye on things
