oooh, I do love a new thread

daisyj · 22/01/2009 09:39

Dan - contact your tutor

youknownothing - MWs here are supportive of hb, too, but I was also told they are so short-staffed that I may have to go to hospital. Hadn't though of refusing to move, though - that should do the trick.

deany - Fingers crossed for you and all the very best of luck. Really hope it works out this time, but I can understand why you feel the way you do. You have a tough six weeks ahead of you, so you must drop in here any time it gets too much. Have you had any investigations (sorry, not trying to be nosy, just wondered if your GP has been on the case for you, or anything, although it doesn't sound like it from your post).

Diji · 22/01/2009 09:46

Hey everyone... Glad to see so many positive things happening...
I am waiting to have my 22 week scan in 3 weeks ( last one was at 12 weeks ) It seems to be taking forever. Am having the most intense headaches and bachache. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to help?
I am still not feeling really pregnant, and every time a twinge happens i panick! Its nuts!
Aaaaarrrgh, Ijust want to have a scan now so that i can see that every thing is fine, and that i am really preggers.

valz · 22/01/2009 09:47

hi girls,

thanks for all the well wishes on twins, just wanted to find out from some of you with experience. i was aware that breasts becomes tender and full but have any of you felt like your nipples were about to burst open or a sensation that they had been cut with razor blades particularly when cold. Also i seem to have an influx of hair appearing on my belly that i know i never had before, its grosse, whats that about!

Diji · 22/01/2009 09:58

Valz My nipples are sooooo sensative! And i have hair sprouting on my neck and chin. Its freaking me out, but my doc said its perfectly normal. Someting to do with a drastic increase and fluctuation in hormones.
But the hair thing is still really grosse!

dan39 · 22/01/2009 10:07

crunch is right but the whole ovulation game is a funny one as both eggs and sperm can hang around, so its not an exact science (as the person with 4 poss edd's can tell you..) but the 4 weeks sounds like a good working hypothesis. Lots of people choose to wait and see, sounds like that what you want to do? Its undoubtedly a shitty time but as you are no doubt aware from reading only a wee bit of this thread you are in good company!!

Sending you sticky thoughts - keep the faith!

VillageMum · 22/01/2009 15:05

deany, welcome, my thoughts are with you!

dan, how truly maddening - but they CAN'T force you to be induced. That's not a very wide dates window, either, I'd say! I mean, it's only a week - well within the range of acceptable! Go talk to that consultant... And good luck with holding out for your hb; sounds as if you have good support in your own GP and midwives.

napa and ready, great news about your scans!

rachel, WONDERFUL news about your nuchal. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I'm 39 and I'm dreading the nuchal (which will be in about 2 and a half weeks) for that reason...

youknownothing, I found what you wrote about the placenta taking over at 8 weeks really reassuring - I was wondering about this very detail just this morning, but unable to find it in any of my pg handbooks, so thank you!

herbaceous · 22/01/2009 16:13

Crikey, nipples. I too am suffering with them. For weeks they've been so sensitive, I can't bear to be naked in bed, or wear a dressing gown with no t-shirt, and so itchy I spend my days doing surreptitiously rubs, or even smacking them! And now they've gone all dry and scaly. Nothing seems to make them better.

And if they do get rubbed, it makes me feel really melancholy! How utterly bizarre... Could make breast-feeding difficult!

lizzie9442 · 22/01/2009 16:15

Hi everyone. How are you all? I was here only a month ago when I lost my baby. But I think I am now pregnant again so the worrying begins once again!

VJay · 22/01/2009 16:22

Had a scan today, due to the cramps I've been having, and we saw a little 9 week old baby with a heart beat. Such a relief (for now). I've got another scan in 2 weeks. I just can't wait to get the next month out of the way, then i can relax a bit.
Hope everyone is doing well xx

herbaceous · 22/01/2009 16:37

Hoorah for VJay! That's great. though vexing how the relief doesn't last much past getting out of the hospital!

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 22/01/2009 16:43

Deany - hang in there, these few weeks are torturous. I had a scan on monday and was 5weeks6days then but had tested more than 2 weeks earlier so had already endured 2 weeks of worry. See how you go but if it really causing you worry than you can self-refer to most early pregnancy units and they are usually pretty helpful, especially with women who have previous miscarriages.

Vjay - great news, I hope it reassures you a bit. I still have horrible crampy feelings so I think I'm going to have to ask for a re-scan next week as I'm going crazy!

napa · 22/01/2009 17:10

great news on the scan VJay.

For dan and all you home birthers, if you are having problems getting support or a midwife to attend your home birth you can contact a supervisor of midwives directly. The main role of a supervisor is protection of the public but that also includes protection of the choice of the woman and provision of a service to support that choice safely. The switchboard of your hospital should be able to give you the contact details of the supervisor on call (there's one around 24 hours a day) or the number might be displayed in your antenatal clinic. Good luck and I hope it all goes well.

welcome deany and welcome back lizzie, hope it all goes well for you both.

and hello to everyone else.

SparkyMalarky · 22/01/2009 18:35

deany welcome and fingers crossed for you...the first few weeks are soo stressful.

dan - bl**dy GP! How particularly unhelpful of him (am the master of the understatement today) - have you got a MW that is supportive of your hb? (and did you contact your tutor?)

Am so pleased for your scan news Vjay - that will help for a few days at least!!

Valz - Twins!! - how exciting!! A friends with twins found TAMBA really useful for info and support

On the painful nips, OMG I had the same problem up to about 13 weeks...and in the cold, it was just as Valz says - like razor blades [ouch]. It got much better after that tho....and now at 24 weeks, apart from the occasional growing pain (and I'm already a 38F! - once I was a 34D.......)they're ok! The joys of early pregnancy...

Bizarre hair story - apparently, if you're carrying a girl, leg hair growth slows down dramatically...certainly true in my case, but I don't know what hair on the chin means diji! - BTW, on your headaches, are the headaches and backaches related (eg headache coming from stress on your back/neck)? Could be down to a change in posture from your growing bump? I think a normal/low dose of paracetamol is ok when PG, although I'd check with your MW....I buggered my neck recently and used a hot compress to sooth the muscles instead which worked a treat

How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
VillageMum · 22/01/2009 19:01

VJay, yay, yay, yay!!

youknownothingofthecrunch · 22/01/2009 19:02

vjay that's great news.

Sparky ooh, I was going to say, my hair growth is much reduced - not having to shave armpits or legs very often at all - so maybe it's one more sign that dc3 will be on my side in my house of men

As for the nipples, am now coming up to week 27 and I definitely have herb's itchiness and they are ridiculously sensitive. I'm practically lactating already! It's just not fair (been having to wear breast pads).

I can't believe there's still 3 months to go.

napa am taking note of that bit of useful info, thanks.

lizzie fingers crossed for you.

dan39 · 22/01/2009 23:31

Hairy belly - I got that! Only fine hairs and never got that line.

VJay fab - and Lizzie too - I got pg again immediately too! Great to see you, fingers crossed!

daisyj · 23/01/2009 09:43
VJay · 23/01/2009 10:06

Thankyou ladies, you are a fab bunch

Diji · 23/01/2009 10:22

Thanks Sparky
Will try the hot compress. Unfortunately
the bachache has been constant and the headaches are bordering migrane and not related to the back.
But will try anything right now
Well my nails are growing at an alarming rate, and so is the hair on my head. This pregnancy is complete opposite to the one with my dd.
Don't know what all this means... Anyways...

Congrats to you Vjay and lizzie*

LoobyLou36 · 23/01/2009 10:28

great news vjay dan39 i have a very hairy belly so this is normal? (25+5)

LoobyLou36 · 23/01/2009 10:29

Did anyone watch Victorian Farm last night?

There was a sheep giving birth - my DH turned to me and said "That'll be you soon" charming!!

valz · 23/01/2009 12:14

ha ha loobylou my husband was pointing at me saying "thats you, thats you" when they said its common for shropshire sheep to have twins even triplets. thats men for ya. hey maybe its our hairy bellys thats making them liken us to sheep

vjay great news on the scan, havent a date for my next scan yet, meant to be 2-3weeks but the wait is a stinker isnt it.

sparky the razor blades last too 13 weeks...oh no.

VM hows the ms, im still sick as a dog, really cant concentrate on anything these days, feel sick contantly!

herbaceous · 23/01/2009 12:26

Hey diji

We're pregnancy twins! As well as the ridiculous nips, I also have hair and hails growing so fast I can practically see them move.

Hey everyone - I just told work, and it's all OK! And last night I relented and bought some maternity trousers after spending all day in an ordinary pair held together with a hair band. It would appear I'm officially pregnant.

And I think I might have felt Cromwell kicking yesterday - felt like someone tapping inside with a tiny hammer. Like a mini Shawshank Redemption.

Fozzie78 · 23/01/2009 13:54

Ahhhh lots o positives on here which is great to see.

vjay ready Hanginbelly napa congrats on scans, thats fantastic news.

My friend had lots of hair growth with her little boy but nothing with little girl, very strange.

Hey ladies after my scan on wednesday i had a little bleed, it was red/brownish, has anyone else had this after an internal scan? it had me so worried I spent yesterday in bed and didnt dare move. I still have a little brown discharge but very light. I thought I might be able to get a couple of days to relax after my lovely scan then this happened, its such a horrible waiting game.

valz · 23/01/2009 14:36

ah poor fozzie i had that a week or two ago, only slight it wasnt right after my scan though. it may have just been old blood there, it will likely just fade away. try not to worry about it.
