Hello!

I'm 44 and have just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant.

It's all a bit meh at the moment as I've been here before, multiple losses and all over 40. I'm putting it down to the quality of my old lady eggs!

Anyway, I'm back on that rollercoaster. I clearly love the stress of it all!

If anyone else is on the same rollercoaster or even in the same theme park, pop in and say hi ☺️

Those thinking about it, is anyone booking or already booked an early scan? I don't know if I can face it, to be honest. I'll be 5 weeks on Tuesday. I want to wait until 8 weeks ideally, but equally, if it's failed/failing, I want to know sooner, at 6+, so I can deal with it.

I went at 8 weeks last time, purely because it's more likely to be conclusive. I've heard a lot of stories of people going at 6/7 weeks and it dating behind and being asked to come back in two weeks which must be incredibly hard, especially if you know deep-down that it's not going to be good news.

Hi can I join you all please? I'm 45 (probably the oldest one here 🤭) and I'm 4 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby!

We found out quite early at 9dpo and I have short ish 25 day cycles so it's been just over a week since first positive test. Feels like we've known for ages already! Got my 2-3 on a digital this morning.

I'm rather anxious as we had a MMC at 11 weeks in Feb & a MC at 7 weeks in May last year. Then a chemical in October and another in December. Hoping this is a sticky bean and will stay with us 🥰

JellyBean123456 · 27/01/2025 13:59

Forgot to say, my EDD is 3rd Oct but I'll have to have a c section at 39 weeks so this will
be a September baby

PennyPencils · 27/01/2025 14:30

So... I had my HCG monitored and it hadn't risen as much as it should so i was scanned.
Found out it was twins but one is already being reabsorbed into the uterus, and the other looked very small.
Measured 4.8mm and the gynea said looked liked 3/4 weeks rather that the 6+3 that i was.
So rescan for 3rd Feb due.
Since then lots more pregnancy symptoms, feeling more sicky each day and Ive read A LOT of old Mumsnet threads from mums in similar situations (minus the vanishing twin)

Seems anything could happen. Its common for early scans to misread measurements, but with the not-so-impressive HCG results... Ots a huge wait, hope and see.

I wouldn't be so stressed if i wasn't this age. Time running out and all x

WildFinch · 27/01/2025 16:43

Can I ask how you're monitoring your HCG levels @PennyPencils ? I got myself into a right state by doing a CB digital test yesterday that came back 1-2 weeks when I should have been 5w+5, it hadn't changed since in did one the week before. I've rashly ordered a private HCG blood test has anyone used those before? I was going to book a reassurance scan at 8w as the heartbeat stopped at 7w last time. It's hard feeling like I can't trust my body to tell me if something is wrong after the MMC.

I went for an early scan this weekend!

I am 6 weeks tomorrow, I was 5 weeks 4 days when I went to the hospital- for me it was good for my piece of mind that the baby is in the right place and everything looks normal.
This is my first pregnancy and I'm 40, I'm trying to be super positive but I keep seeing in this chat how challenging it's been for a lot of you. My love and compassion goes out to you all!

How are you feeling now? Might you go get a scan? X

I went to get blood tests taken ordered by the GP, two days apart to see if it was rising well. I think until about 6 weeks they double about every two days, and then more like every three.

DramaticFridge · 28/01/2025 13:12

I am getting extra scans and am consultant led - so far I am 20 weeks and have only had the two midwife apts and my next isn't until 19th of Feb so that doesn't seem too different but I do have extra scans booked in for later in the pregnancy

SnakebitesandSambucas · 28/01/2025 13:57

I'm 37 so a bit younger than you lot. But I noticed in the antenatal clinics a lot of older mums! I know I am one of the youngest mums in my kids school class

Amuseaboosh · 28/01/2025 19:31

Wow, welcome to all the new posters, and hello to the existing ones since I last posted 😊

How is everyone doing?

I've been having a horrendous time with nausea 😵 it's been truly awful with dry heaving and gagging as added extras!

How's everyone else getting on?

I'm 6 weeks today. I have an early scan tomorrow afternoon to ensure things are at least in the right place. I've been getting increasingly anxious since yesterday, but I know it's out of my hands. At least if it's not a viable pregnancy, I'll get able to deal with the symptoms. That's my dark sense of humour keeping me going

Evening everyone, I am ducking out of this thread. 6w today and have had heavy bleeding. Pretty certain it's a miscarriage, my pregnancy test was very very light. I'm not sure this pregnancy ever got going properly tbh.
Wishing everyone wonderful and healthy journeys, I'll be 40 later this year so reading positive stories for those of us a bit older has really helped me have hope xx

PennyPencils · 28/01/2025 20:57

@WildFinch so sorry to hear that. Yes, you've certainly still got lots of time. Take care of yourself x

PennyPencils · 28/01/2025 20:58

@Amuseaboosh well the strong nausea is a great sign.
Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how you get on.

Fletchasketch · 29/01/2025 15:03

Hope the scan went well @Amuseaboosh I remember what an anxious time it is.

Trying to work out what to do about supplements now....I've got 2 and a bit months of Proceive conception left and they're not cheap! Am I okay to just use these as pregnancy vitamins now (they have Folic acid and vit D in them) or should I try to get Boots to exchange them? Would be great to know what everyone else is doing for supplements too.

Fletchasketch · 29/01/2025 15:04

@WildFinch so very sorry to hear your news. Hope you have good support around you and sending big hugs.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 29/01/2025 15:14

@Fletchasketch the only vitamins I stopped was the coq 10. I kept the rest I was on. Just finish them on and go on standard ones. The seven sea ones are good. Tbh I have such bad HG I can barely take them some days!!

SnakebitesandSambucas · 29/01/2025 15:15

Also I still take the myo insotol.

Lefthanddownnumberone · 29/01/2025 15:20

Wishing you much love ❤️

I've had the scan.

Strong heartbeat, bang on dates, and all where it should be. ❤️

My Flo app has me at 6w 1day, the scan dated me at 6w 2 days.
NHS calculator due date was 24th September. Scan has given me a due date of 22nd September.

I still feel as sick as a dog and am not quite sure what to do next..... I also know things can still change very, very quickly, so keeping that in my mind to.

I'm not sure if, due to my age, I need to move quicker with a midwife appointment, I know there'll be screenings tests, etc, to do. Any advice would be welcome 😊

EveningReflection · 29/01/2025 17:07

@Amuseaboosh In my experience they don't do a whole lot until 12 weeks (scan and booking in appointment). I did have blood tests done around 10 weeks though. You can self refer any time to your chosen hospital though, to get the ball rolling, there should be information online.

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and still really sick (same thing I had the entire pregnancy with my daughter, though it definitely eased up around week 20). I have been struggling to take on fluids without vomiting. Recently I discovered sparkling water (which I've hated my whole life up until this point). I'm finding it much easier to consume than plain water. My advice is to experiment with different things, though I have been on anti sickness meds too since 13 weeks. I believe sickness is a good sign generally in terms of the pregnancy progressing.

MrsH26 · 30/01/2025 10:22

Had my epau scan today.
Gestational sac and yolk sac all appropriate for gestation and where it should be. Back in 2wks for development check and hopefully see a little heartbeat

Simplehuman · 30/01/2025 11:49

Hi all, hope you don't mind me hopping onto the thread

Congratulations to everyone

Lovely to hear scans are showing beautiful little sticky beans

I'm 5weks 2 days today. Just on the "no symptoms" rollercoaster, due in for HCG today and Tuesday due to previous miscarriage. But keeping super positive x

SnakebitesandSambucas · 30/01/2025 11:55

Great news on the scan! I have awful HG so spend the majority of the time feeling hungover or being sick. I wish I could tell you mine stopped when I hit the second trimester but mine didn't. But did go away straight after birth!
