Hello!

I'm 44 and have just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant.

It's all a bit meh at the moment as I've been here before, multiple losses and all over 40. I'm putting it down to the quality of my old lady eggs!

Anyway, I'm back on that rollercoaster. I clearly love the stress of it all!

If anyone else is on the same rollercoaster or even in the same theme park, pop in and say hi ☺️

Well not in a great way here. Woke up to backache and brown when wiping.
I had a miscarriage in October at 7 weeks and I'd be 6 weeks tomorrow.

I'd love a miracle but it is what it is.

I hope everyone else is doing well. Feels worse when time is running out.

How are you feeling now? Time factor does make it feel like a pressure cooker! I had some light bleeding/discharge about 2 days after I got a positive result, but it stopped, and there's been nothing since. Could it be part of implantation/burrowing?

Try and think of it as 'it's not over until it's over!'

There isn't really any way to know is there, sending you positive energy ❤️

I think this is always in the back of my mind too, but I had a miscarriage at 29 so it can happen at any age. Try not to stress xx

Agreed, it can happen at any age. Advanced maternal age makes it even more likely. Oh, to be a woman!

Thank you for your kind words 😊

Those thinking about it, is anyone booking or already booked an early scan? I don't know if I can face it, to be honest. I'll be 5 weeks on Tuesday. I want to wait until 8 weeks ideally, but equally, if it's failed/failing, I want to know sooner, at 6+, so I can deal with it.

How are your cycles? Were you tracking ovulation?

My previously clockwork cycles have gone haywire since turning 40 and I was definitely having a lot of perimenopause symptoms prior to pregnancy. My cycles were really long and irregular so I had no idea when I'd ovulated, I only tested on cd56 as i went off alcohol on an all inclusive holiday then threw up one morning at breakfast!

My first scan I would have been 8+2 based on LMP but I actually only measured 6+1 so that was a massive worry. I then went back 2 weeks later and all was OK but it's something to bear in mind when looking to book an early scan. If you go too early there won't be anything to see which causes more worry than good I think.

@Amuseaboosh I'm ok thanks. Still waiting to see what happens and hoping.
No more blood but I'm bloated and tender so it doesn't feel good.
But yes, I'm still holding on toa bit of hope while I can. 😊
Time will tell. Just trying to take it easy for now.

So I had an early scan last week that’s wasn’t great, I had some pain and spotting so EPU scanned baby bang in dates with heartbeat but there where what they think lots of cysts in my uterus and an area of bleeding… back in next week to check if nothing happens in between so limbo land here!

I had some spottting and cramping but it all stopped it’s not always a bad sign!

I got an early scan as I wasn't 100% certain of my dates due to the dreaded PCOS messing me up.

I was 6 weeks when I went in (my app/period said I should have been about 10!) and they could see everything that they wanted to see and was all good.

I found it very reassuring as I was expecting the worst outcome so getting that reassurance really helped.

PennyPencils · 21/01/2025 12:58

I'm going to see if I can get an early scan. In not in the UK so I'm not sure.
I've had no more bleeding so I'm feeling hopeful again.
Been to see the GP and suspect it's an infection causing the back pain.
Bloods being done later today. Phew.
They'll check HCG and again in two days so I'll get some results on how things look at least.

Hey, good to read that the bleeding has stopped. How are you feeling generally? Have you had your HCG back?

This is a huge part of it, expecting the worst outcome but also sometimes catching yourself daydreaming and hoping and then having to shake yourself out of it. I'm so pleased that your scan was helpful 😊

Your post hit me hard, and yes, there were tears. What a journey you've been on and continue to be on. I'm so very, very happy for you. This time, you're hitting milestones, and long may this continue for you.

I'm on first name terms with my GAU and Recurrant Miscarriage departments, but this time around, I haven't even contacted them - I think I'm a bit exhausted and almost dread the blood tests and those scan rooms.

I'm wishing you all the love, luck, and baby dust ❤️✨️

I had some bleeding over the weekend, thankfully HCG all good. So just waiting for my early scan, which may well need repeating because it’s so early! They wouldn’t let me wait longer than a week though and they’re sure they‘ll see what they need to because my HCG was high. But that doesn’t really work with my dates.
so more waiting!
reassuringly though I’ve been so sicky and my urine tests are VERY positive. So I’ve everything crossed for a positive outcome

EveningReflection · 23/01/2025 21:04

Wishing you well and hoping it works out for you this time.

I'll be turning 43 before baby is due in July. I have a 4 year old daughter and no one bat an eye lid when I had her at 38 (though it was covid times, so I barely saw a midwife until I went into labour!). Now I'm over 40 so that means I have a few extra scans and appointments to contend with. My mum was 3 weeks shy of her 43rd birthday when she had me, back in the early 1980s!

justsarahinlondon · 24/01/2025 13:41

I'd love to join! I turned 40 last year and found out last week that I am pregnant! 5 weeks 3 days due sept 24th.

Super happy and excited but also so nervous and worried- I keep taking pregnancy tests to prove the baby is still there 🤪 I dont seem to have any sickness (just sore boobs, tired, need to pee constantly...), but I guess it's normal to be nervous?!
It doesn't help that I have adenomiosis - anyone else here have this condition?

Purplechoclady · 24/01/2025 15:48

Great to find this thread. I’m 40 and 4 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Still in shock although delighted. I have an auto immune condition so we weren’t sure I would be able to conceive. Lovely surprise and nervous but trying to enjoy it all.

WildFinch · 24/01/2025 22:18

Hi everyone! Hoping I can join, I've been reading all your stories. I'm 39, 40 in October. Pregnant for the second time. I had a MMC last July diagnosed at 9weeks after seeing a heartbeat at 7weeks. Took ages to get my cycle back so I'm so pleased to be here again. It doesn't feel real yet. I'm due 23 September and trying to take one day at a time. Wishing everyone positive days and early scans if you have them.

Fletchasketch · 27/01/2025 07:55

Morning all! 4 weeks pregnant here with an October 2nd due date, but hoping you’ll let me sneak in. I’m 41 and fell pregnant for the first time last summer, ending in a MMC at 8 weeks. Very scared of it happening again, but keep telling myself a baby is more likely than a loss. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us for healthy babies in 8 months time!

DramaticFridge · 27/01/2025 13:16

I'm loving all these joiners with their exciting news 👶❤

I have my 20 week scan on Wednesday and can't wait. Feels like I have been pregnant forever after finding out at the start of October & June feels a million miles away but it will soon creep round

I think I did close to 50 tests in the first few weeks of pregnancy as I just couldn't believe it! my BF kept getting annoyed with finding them all over the house!

Can't wait to hear more exciting updates as the weeks go on from all us Old Birds who have still got it!! 😜💓

Scarftown · 27/01/2025 13:34

I'm tentatively joining. I'm 40 and 8 weeks pregnant with my second. We had a late loss last year and I hate being pregnant even without the extra anxiety so I'm not sure how I'm feeling at the moment. Do we get extra scans over 40. My last baby was during Covid I didn't see hardly anyone and if I did there was no continuity of care. Last pregnancy I only had 2 midwife appointments before 23 weeks. So not really sure what to expect.
