Hello!

I'm 44 and have just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant.

It's all a bit meh at the moment as I've been here before, multiple losses and all over 40. I'm putting it down to the quality of my old lady eggs!

Anyway, I'm back on that rollercoaster. I clearly love the stress of it all!

If anyone else is on the same rollercoaster or even in the same theme park, pop in and say hi ☺️

Sounds like lots of us are having girls, we are too. I think the statistics show that girls are nearly twice as common as boys for older mums, which might explain it!

I've been adjusting to being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. It comes with some extra risks and I've had to drastically change my diet. I'm really hungry and missing my carbs! Only 8/9 weeks left now though.

Also, had a growth scan today. My first daughter was small, around 20th centile, but this baby is more like 60th.

@Amuseaboosh sorry I haven't encountered a hematoma before.

Congratulations! For your little baby girl, not the GD! Did you have routine testing for it or did you exhibit symptoms?

Never heard stats for older Mum's and girls but I'll take it! 😁

Is the pregnancy going fast for you? My tummy area feels so stretched and sore and I'm only 21 weeks! 😩

Pregnancy goes so slow for me, I feel like I've been pregnant forever. I find it a big struggle and can't wait to have little one, know she's here safe and put 7.5 months of feeling really unwell behind me!

The stretched feeling is definitely uncomfortable, it happens to me too, especially if I stand for too long.

I had a routine test for GD. I think everyone over 40 round here gets one at around 28 weeks. I didn't have a test with my older daughter when I was 38/39, but that was during covid so they probably didn't want us all hanging round the hospital for hours on end. I do wonder if I also had GD in that pregnancy!

@Amuseaboosh there’s someone on the due in Sept thread that has an SCH, it was found in first trimester though.
Things may well sound scary, but try not to focus on the scary bits of what you’re told, any increased pain and/or bleeding though, please ring your maternity triage unit. And I’d avoid intercourse and high intensity activities/heavy lifting unless you’re advised otherwise.

I’m good thank you. We’ve got our scan this morning. So awake early with nerves! DH is hopeful of being able to work out if it’s a boy/girl 😂 but not officially finding out!
and starting to get a few proper little kicks rather than just pops and shuffles 🥰

mamajuelz · 13/05/2025 09:27

It’s interesting how many of us are having girls. At the beginning of the year everyone I knew who had a baby, had a boy and now towards the end of the year it’s all girls.

EveningReflection · 16/06/2025 20:16

Hows everyone getting on?

I have 3.5 weeks until my C-section. I'm really struggling now with the heat and I just can't sleep because baby is so active at night, full on dance party in my tummy.

Torkieshorkie · 16/06/2025 20:35

First time mum and 30 weeks pregnant. I will be 42 when I give birth. I really don’t feel like an older mum.

struggling with horrendous heartburn and a very tight tummy but as the weeks go on I’ve gone from so much anxiety (I am high risk) to actually feeling excited.

lots of movement especially at 4am and kicking on my bladder which makes me want to pee myself 😆
Also having a little girl 💓

Amuseaboosh · 22/06/2025 08:54

Good morning!!! 😊❤️

It's been an age, how is everyone? How are we coping with the heat, almost hitting our 3rd trimesters, the peeeing, (my god the peeeing!) and life in general.

For me it seems the last 2 weeks have hit hard. Bloody heamatoma now has a companion in there, a second heamatoma! I've had my GTT back and I've got gestational diabetes. My feet now are constantly swollen and I hate, I've never had any of these issues in previous pregnancies oh and from 16 weeks onwards, she's remained in a breach position, I'm now 27 weeks!

It's such an emotional and sometimes draining time.

Someone tell me it gets better 😁

@Amuseaboosh
Not great here!
I got admitted at work on Wednesday at 25+4, early onset Pre-Eclampsia! I was half an hour from HDU and delivering Weds night.
On 10 tablets a day just to try and control BP, and thankfully it settled. I was allowed home yesterday afternoon.
But they scanned me to check babe was coping and growth is on the 3rd centile. So twice weekly dopplers, BP and urine checks. Weekly bloods and clinic appointments. Every other week growth and my team are trying to get me to 32wks.

This baby is going to be pre-term. And quite possibly by lscs if growth doesn’t improve.

To top it off, also GDM and they did an ECHO to rule out anything cardiac because of my BP and I’ve got an ASD, had it from birth & it’s not causing the BP issues but can increase other risks elsewhere.

its been such a nightmare few days

@MrsH26what a scary, scary time for you. You've told me about baby, how are YOU doing?

What were your symptoms for early onset pre-eclampsia?
So glad you spotted this.

Baby will be ok, but please make sure you are being supported too. Pregnancy is hard, complications make it harder but we tend to focus on making sure the baby is ok and not ourselves.

Is your care all in place until delivery now, subject to change if needed?

Sending huge hugs xx

Severe swelling up to my knees and face and just felt a bit off, so dipped my urine at work and had protein, so the girls checked my BP. Got frogmarched down the corridor and that was that!

It’s very much day by day and subject to change. It’s worrying - obviously. I know everything I needed to already so bumbling along boundlessly about risks of severe prematurity etc is scary. I’m a bit more settled now though

EveningReflection · 28/06/2025 02:38

@MrsH26 very sorry to hear you've ran into problems, it sounds like they're looking after you, so I'm just going to send some positive vibes and hope things run smoothly for you in the coming weeks.

@Amuseaboosh yes the peeing is something, I literally wee every 15 minutes now. My ketones were low today and the midwife was concerned I'm not eating enough. Well I'm in a routine with the GD diet but I know I'm struggling to really eat enough as I find it very limiting. I haven't had a high reading in weeks though, I'm convinced the hot weather strangely seems to yield lower readings?! Are you managing to make some changes to your diet? I found it really challenging at first, I was so hungry all the time. The last few weeks, I've also been struggling to sleep, as you can tell by the time I'm posting this. I'm normally awake for about 3/4 hours in the middle of the night, it's quite exhausting.

MrsH26 · 28/06/2025 09:15

@EveningReflection thank you 🥰
I’m just getting to grips with the GD diet, have you been on gestational diabetes uk website? They have some brilliant paired recipes. Sadly, I found the nhs dietician advice outdated and patronising!

I’ve hit 27wks today, so that’s the first milestone. It should mean I won’t need to be transferred out for delivery should things take a turn! Next stop 3rd trimester 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

EveningReflection · 29/06/2025 21:46

I'm really not much of a cook to be honest, so I've mostly just found a few meals I can eat and stuck to those. I'm not too worried about variety because I'm eating a lot of veg, salad, nuts, cheese, greek yogurt etc. (I'm vegetarian which I think makes things a bit trickier).

My main breakthrough came in the form of lentils, namely red lentil pasta (Holland & Barrett or Sainsbury's do it) and Kallo lentil cakes (like rice cakes). I found I can't eat bread at all, or normal pasta or rice, or potatoes. The lentil pasta has been a real game changer for me.

Baby made her arrival via planned C-section on Wednesday morning at 38+6, 6lb 12oz. We came home yesterday evening. All good, just adjusting and recovering.

We’ve had our baby!

Been off work since 25+4 with early onset pre-eclampsia. We got a little lady born at 28+6 due to an abnormal CTG last night. I managed to stay stable.
She’s extremely tiny, on the 0.3rd centile and isn’t doing too well at the moment.

if anyone has spare positive vibes, please send them our feisty little girls way!

@MrsH26how are you both doing? I'm sending you all the positivity in the world. I'll be sure to keep on asking the universe to give an abundance of energy and strength to your little arrival. Congratulations on her birth, she's a fighter!

Keep talking here, I know I've been rubbish with checking in but I'll be much more consistent.

Do you have support? ❤️

She’s had a rough 24hrs and ended up ventilated and they couldn’t get lines in they needed. But we’re 48hrs in now & they’re just resting her tonight & we’ve got everything crossed she stays settled tonight, then they might wean her back onto CPAP during the day.
I’m ok, being productive and hammering the expressing because that’s something I know I can do, get a good little stock for her for when she’s allowed buccal feeds again.

Thank you. All is going well, hoping to get some sleep tomorrow when our older daughter is at nursery because I've had about 7 hours sleep this entire week and it's taking a toll! She looks identical to her sister this age, which is confusing in my sleep deprived state, I feel like I'm stuck in a time machine!

@Amuseaboosh
the little lady is an absolute warrior! 💗

she came off the ventilator, which she didn’t like very much. And this morning she came off oxygen and she’s started gaining weight.

It’s a hell of a rollercoaster some days, but we’ve had some good days the last few x
