Hello!

I'm 44 and have just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant.

It's all a bit meh at the moment as I've been here before, multiple losses and all over 40. I'm putting it down to the quality of my old lady eggs!

Anyway, I'm back on that rollercoaster. I clearly love the stress of it all!

If anyone else is on the same rollercoaster or even in the same theme park, pop in and say hi ☺️

Is anyone NOT having a private NIPT and waiting for NT and bloods at dating scan?

I haven't quite decided.

It's a bit of a minefield. Part of me wants to know ASAP, and then part of me asks what it would change?

I had a scan today, 9 weeks exactly, and everything is growing as it should.

I've got my booking in appointment next week, and then it'll be the 12-week scan.

My DH and I were just saying tonight that the screening tests are our next hurdle.

How are you doing?

My thoughts at the moment are, I think unless I’m having the full assay done, it’s not much point, I’m only going to find out about 3 things, unless we pay an astronomical amount of money, which would go into the savings and pay for a months mortgage whilst I’m on mat leave.

It’s only 2 more weeks to wait. My dating scan is 12+1, so early enough for further testing, if needed

SnakebitesandSambucas · 12/02/2025 20:29

@EveningReflection lucky my hospital is not too far away by bus. But I feel like I'm in every other week!

Yes it feels a bit much, as the appointments all feel incredibly rushed too. My first pregnancy I was desperate for appointments, I felt abandoned, but being 38/39 age wasn't a factor (since it's simply a > 40 box ticking exercise) and it was also 2020 during covid.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 17/02/2025 22:06

@MrsH26 I never paid for the NIPT tests for my oldest 2. And with this pregnancy Im living second by second tbh so I couldn't think about it.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 17/02/2025 22:06

@EveningReflection I think it's because I'm under a few specialist teams that I have so many.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 17/02/2025 22:09

Evening everyone! Had a 4d scan yesterday was amazing!!! Didn't find out the sex I'm still holding of until baby is born. But I got a video as well. Tbh still getting through day by day but I'm starting to enjoy it a little bit x

SnakebitesandSambucas · 17/02/2025 22:10

@MrsH26 tbh I would wait. As by the time you get the results with all stress. You will get your NHS scan. But I understand how personal it is x

Fletchasketch · 18/02/2025 09:38

I'm also undecided about what to do in terms of scans/NIPT. The first opportunity we have for a scan (due to both being in the country!) will be at 9 and a half weeks which is right before when we could go for an NIPT which I believe includes another scan. The NHS scan is then 2 weeks later. It all feels like a lot in a short space of time, but maybe the first scan is necessary to confirm there's actually a baby before booking in the NIPT. In other news, I'm 7 weeks 4 days today which was the stage the growth stopped in my last pregnancy, so that's making me feel very anxious.

Fletchasketch · 18/02/2025 09:40

I hope everyone is doing well. Lovely to see some happy scan news, please keep it coming!

SnakebitesandSambucas · 18/02/2025 11:36

@Fletchasketch for me In the early stages I was just focusing on if the baby still had a heartbeat. Then my next milestone was the scan, bloods etc. Fingers crossed for you

Scarftown · 18/02/2025 15:10

We have decided just the NHS screening and then take it from there. My scan is 12+6. So time for more screening if needed and then I'll take it from there.

This is what I’m leaning to. I’ve been able to get my dating scan at 12+1, gives me a 2wk head start on a later dating scan

Amuseaboosh · 19/02/2025 12:06

Ok, I've caved and booked a NIPT for next Tuesday. I'll be just over 10 weeks.

I want some control over decisions that I may have to make, and I'd rather know sooner if that makes sense. I'm also fully, fully invested in this baby, and I know the further I get, if it goes wrong, the harder I'll fall.

I know these are all hurdles to get through, a day at a time, but I'd love to be able to relax a little, and if I'm blessed enough, enjoy this pregnancy. Right now, all our conversations are with the caveat, 'depending on'.

Hope everyone else is doing ok ❤️

I'm sending you all the positivity for a great first scan. I'm sorry you've had the previous loss. It's terribly hard because it's the biggest lesson in learning that getting pregnant is just the first part. I really do hope your scan is a great experience ❤️

I'm beyond anxious about the screening tests, especially as I'm 44!

It will be what it will be. Just need the strength to get through it 😊

Oh, that's rubbish about feeling unwell and a huge congratulations for 26 weeks!!! That seems like an age away at 9 weeks 😳

@Amuseaboosh honestly it flies so fast. The hours and days are so long! But then when everything is going well its suddenly nearly the third trimester! Felt like crying most of time ATM with my hormones. Plus not being able to do as much as home!

DramaticFridge · 19/02/2025 19:37

@Amuseaboosh I was really scared about the screening tests too as I am 43 but they were all fine

Fingers crossed it goes well Smile

Aah, thank you for this ❤️ I'm hoping for the very best. It's out of my hands anyway - I just need to take it a day at a time 😊

How are things with you now?

Definitely feeling that frustration at this stage in terms of nausea and not being as productive. I'm literally at work, and then I come home and do nothing.

It's that worrying and anxiousness that is draining me. You give me hope that it'll get better, though 😊

Have you eaten this evening? I hope the HG eases or is eating off.

I'm 45, due in 2 weeks, multiple losses, have live children & planned this one 🧐🙈

@Amuseaboosh
Your a geriatric mother in your 30's, in your forties it's referred to as your "advanced age" 🤣🤣🤣
