@MrsS11 my booking appt was today at 10+0 as per LMP (or 9+6 as per scan). If you are opting in for the abnormality screening then I'm pretty sure they will be quick to put your 12w scan in since they are on a time limit. I'm expecting mine between 12 and 13 weeks.

Superscientist · 10/12/2024 17:52

@CadoAvo I was high risk with my daughter. She was born in the pool at the midwife led unit with just a bit of gas and air. I went through the first stage at home and was fully dilated when I arrived at the hospital!
I was fully expecting a medicalised birth because of being high risk as I was down to give birth on the maternity ward. On the day there was room on the midwife led unit and the midwife in charge was happy that my reasons for high risk related to pregnancy and post birth and the birth itself was classed as low risk.

Aww that's really good to know. I know getting a pool is a roll of the dice anyway but as long as the option is still on the table then I'm happy with that. I just don't want to be talked into induction/section if it can be helped. However I'm also aware that baby arriving healthy is the most important thing and come July maybe ill be screaming for an induction haha.

How are you getting on?

Superscientist · 10/12/2024 19:56

I think my mlu had 2 rooms with pools and the maternity ward had another 2. Thankfully the midwife ran the pool whilst I was on my way in so I got to climb straight in, my daughter was born within an hour of getting there. I had a quick early labour and went from 2-10 cm in just over 2h! Not that you have control over it but I think a big part of how positive my experience was due to it being a quick labour. It was 12h from waters going to baby arriving so I still had plenty of energy to get through the last bits of labour. I was booked in for an induction that evening due to my waters going prior to labour and there's a risk of infection. I got a bit of a bum deal with pregnancy and post birth but the birth itself was pretty straightforward!

I'm doing ok, my fatigue and nausea are easier so I've gone back to work this week it's nice to have something to focus on. Just waiting for cramps and bleeding whilst trying not to think too much. We have the next scan on Thursday morning to have the fate of this pregnancy confirmed.

I had my booking appointment today. The midwife was absolutely lovely. So reassuring. I left the appointment absolutely convinced it’ll all be fine. Booked another private scan for Friday next week.
spotting hasn’t stopped, but I am trying my best to NOT worry about it. It should be fine.
she said brown or light pink spotting is considered as normal.
feeling officially pregnant. 🤰🏻 fingers crossed for all of you, and myself ☺️

lovealways97 · 10/12/2024 21:21

Did you go on your own to booking appointment or did your partners go with you? I really want my wife to be there but I don't think she can get the time off work. It's really put a dampener on the whole thing.

Same here.. 11 weeks tomorrow and I have a mini bump (also lots of bloat in the evenings), the thing is I mostly wear skinny jeans 😖 and it feels so tight, I cannot hold for much longer. I've bought maternity jeans ready for Jan.. don't want to start wearing them before the announcement as I'm worried the band might show.
It's my second, with my first I switched the jeans around 16 weeks but didn't start to really show until 20/22 weeks I'd say! So definitely soooner this time

Snap! Like you I'm sure I only really started showing at bang on 20 weeks last time - we were on the way back from our last holiday abroad before the birth and one of the check in staff asked me if I was pregnant. I remember no-one had really clocked it at all before then. I just looked a bit chubby 😅

This time I'm 10+5 and have absolutely nothing to wear for our work Christmas party this Friday that doesn't make it look really obvious - even DH agreed. Argh!

@CadoAvo sorry to hear about the high risk, but as others have said it doesn't necessarily take any/all choices off the table, depending on the reasons for it and on how things progress 💐 I also found the extra scans very reassuring in the end - and they didn't make us pay for the pictures, unlike with the routine ones, so we have a good selection (small perks right?!).

Hope everyone is otherwise doing and feeling ok!

CadoAvo · 10/12/2024 22:50

@Superscientist that's good your symptoms are easing, I hope you're managing to take care of yourself. Your daughters birth sounds like a dream haha, I can only hope for similar!!

@lovealways97 I believe you can take partners to your midwife appt. My wife didn't come with me because I knew it was just admin essentially but don't think there will be a problem if you take yours 😊

@liloa yeah ill be glad of the extra scans when the time comes. My sister had them too and got a beautiful close up face picture of my niece which was so lovely to see, even though it was 2D you could see all her facial features 🥰

@MiniMaisy im so pleased your midwife was lovely. It defo helps having someone nice. And good she gave you reassurance on the spotting. I hope that made you feel a bit better!! And yes I felt a bit like you after mine like oh gosh this might actually be happening!! I’m still not convinced though. Think when I get my NIPT results back next week with hopefully all low risk I’ll feel better. Just got tomorrows scan and bloods to do which naturally crapping myself about going to. I get such bad anxiety around scans I get myself in such a state before.

Will you be 10 weeks at your next one a week Friday?

@lovealways97 i took my husband with me to mine. Think he liked it and helped him feel connected. But certainly not required if you don’t want to. It was helpful for me for his history and also when we discussed difficult conversations like past losses and anxiety etc. but totally your choice.

@Superscientist im really pleased the nausea is starting to ease. I really hope you feel like yourself again soon. I think going back to work is a good idea for distraction. Have you had any other symptoms or they all dispersing? What time is your scan Thursday? 10 again?

Totally fair for you to want your wife at appointments in general. That said, I found the booking appointment quite dry - they do somehow manage to use the whole 1-1.5 hours going through every detail of your medical history and background more generally, plus a few different tests (blood, carbon monoxide, urine). DH couldn't come first time round and we actively decided not worth him coming the second! The 12 week scan was when it all started to feel real for the first time, so if your wife has to miss anything I think this isn't a bad one 💐

SlimGin · 11/12/2024 06:56

Morning all. I had my booking apt last week and midwife was great. She really urged the importance of continuity, ie having the same midwife throughout where possible, which is a positive change from last time.
I told my mum last week and her reaction has made me really excited. My first pregnancy was with an absolutely useless man so I know she's happy I have an amazing supportive DP now and she doesn't need to worry like she did previously!
I have a private scan booked for this Saturday, I will be 9 weeks, no idea what to expect. A bit nervous but looking forward to seeing the little bean and just hoping all is well and growing as it should.

Superscientist · 11/12/2024 09:02

@GCS34 I'm not as tired either so all symptoms are easing. The scans at 9 so pretty early.

@Superscientist I'm glad your scan is early tomorrow. It's horrible I'm so so sorry. Has your daughter suspected anything? I guess focussing on work and giving her the best christmas will hopefully help you and your husband get through this horrible time. x

LifeonMarss · 11/12/2024 10:27

My sickness is back, just been sent home from work because I threw up. Literally all I want is an ice lolly but I feel too rough to go to the shop so just heading straight for bed

GCS34 · 11/12/2024 10:28

Got my 12 week scan date through - hoorah!! It's a week on Friday, 20th December, so it's pre-christmas which is really nice, all being well obviously.

Have our private NIPT test and scan tonight. Has anyone else had it / having it? I'm so scared about the scan, standard, does this ever get easier!?

I don't think so. She asks when I am going to have another baby several times a week for the last year which is heartbreaking. I don't think we would tell her about any pregnancy until I'm past 20-24 weeks. There's a boy in her class who's mum is expecting and most of the children have siblings.
I've cancelled all the Christmas work events. I'm not feeling exactly festive and not sure I could manage the meals. I'm trying to save up the festive cheer for the big day.

I got mine yesterday, it’s the 19th. So relieved it’s before Christmas but also feel incredibly nervous now.

Good luck for your scan tonight!! How long do the NIPT results take to come back?

@BroomAdventures Oh amazing - so pleased to have a buddy who has a scan the same time! I'm so so scared too. Have you had a scan yet at all, or will that be your first one? What will you bet at your scan? I will hopefully be 11+6 so bang on hopefully!

Scan tonight that comes with the NIPT test tonight I should be 10+4 so hoping that's okay! Results take 5-7 working days, so I should have them back by the scan next week. x

I’ve had some in EPU due to bleeding. Last one was at 7 weeks which seems like forever ago! I’ll be 12+1 on the 19th so keeping everything crossed that baby is ok and measures as it should be.

How exciting!! This day week you’ll know what your little bean is! 🥰

CatmumTTC · 11/12/2024 13:02

When did others get their 12 week scan through? They didn't schedule it at my booking appointment, which happened to my friend but she's with a different NHS trust. I'm not sure whether to follow up or just wait to hear. I'll be 12 weeks on 3rd Jan so guessing there might be a delay with Christmas and NY breaks.

17nic · 11/12/2024 13:11

I had mine through the post after my booking in, I have to wait until 13 weeks for mine! 🙈 @CatmumTTC I did message my midwife though as it took over a week to come through and she told me before I got the letter

@BroomAdventures Sorry you've had some bleeding, it's unbelievably common it should really be spoken about more. I had some at 5+5 (the day of my miscarraige last year like a sick joke) and had a scan at 6 weeks and all was okay. I had a scan Saturday (was included as part of our IVF package) and babes was measuring 10+1 so I am hoping toinght is all good then obviously the scan next week.

Least we will both know by Christmas and we can tell more people. Have you told anyone yet? And yes very scary to think this time next week I should know what we're having. I've my suspicions!

@CatmumTTC I only got mine today, any my booking appointment was last Thursday. I rang the antenatal appointment line and said I'm going away over Xmas so needed to know asap (lie) and they booked it in with me on the phone. Was worth the try for me! You can find the notes in your Badger Notes app where it's appointments phone numbers. Worth a go if you're really keen to have it asap
