Is anyone else having low level cramp most of the day..?

Back ache as well today.... Hope all is ok.

At what point should a midwife contact you? I emailed my GP surgery to say I'm pregnant but nothing back and they are utterly useless, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything I should be getting ball rolling on! (This is my first time!)

I self referred using the trust website last time. Will do the same in a week or so. The last time they booked me in for the initial booking appointment at about 8 weeks.

Due to irregular periods my lmp was 24/4 which will confuse them 😂 that's why I'm thinking of self referring once I'm 6 weeks so if they want to do an early scan at least there'll hopefully be something to see.

@Zuzu2020 ah thank you, I didn't know you could do that. I have just done the self referral, thanks 🙏

PregnantNowScrewed · 26/06/2024 07:07

@m00ngirl I’ve always had quite a bit of cramping in early pregnancy. Was woken up with some last night, though the heat probably also had something to do with it!

I’m really going to try and enjoy the next 2 weeks before the morning sickness hits!

PurpleBath · 26/06/2024 07:29

@m00ngirl I have backache and did in my last pregnancy with DS too.

Anyone have any tips for getting away without drinking? I have a work dinner tonight and it’ll be so obvious if I’m not drinking. Considering just telling my boss but I don’t really want to this early 😬

ksc912 · 26/06/2024 07:33

@m00ngirl some cramping and backache definitely normal. I had in first and feeling some now very early on.

The tiredness has really hit me. Got back from work yesterday and just wanted to lie down 🫣🤣

ButItHasCheese · 26/06/2024 08:11

Hi everyone! Due end of Feb / early March, will find out at my first appt next week I suppose.

Had first DC in the U.K. this one will be in Hong Kong, so interested to see the difference in care

@PurpleBath apparently dry July is a thing - maybe just say you're getting started early on it?

Melusina123 · 26/06/2024 09:21

Who is still testing? I've been testing daily until today but I think I'll stop now I'm past the four weeks mark. At some point it stops being reassuring and just ends up feeling like scratching an itch that keeps returning.

@PregnantNowScrewed oh mannn the morning sickness hit at 6+1 on the dot for me last time. Not looking forward to it.

@PurpleBath the stealthiest thing I ever saw was someone who accepted a glass of wine and then just carried it around with her and eventually abandoned it on a table and then asked for another. When she told me she was pregnant I was like, "!! but you drank at the Christmas Party!". But then I tried that once at a work dinner and it was way more awkward when I did it. It's harder when you're sitting down and can't really just quietly abandon your drink. But you can accept a drink and then just not drink it - that gets you through the "oh you're not drinking?" phase, anyway.

Some people advise saying you're on antibiotics or some other medication that means you shouldn't drink, but others say that for many people that is a dead giveaway. You can also try the "Sorry I'd love to but I overindulged a bit on the weekend and I'm trying to give my liver a break", if you've got a reputation as someone who enjoys a drink, or "I just don't feel like it tonight tbh" if you don't.

The best trick sadly is just to get a reputation as a non-drinker or occasional drinker well in advance of being pregnant. That worked for me last time, nobody seems to have wondered why I wasn't partaking because they just had me filed as someone who didn't really partake in general.

Or just ask for a non-alcoholic drink and let them wonder!

PregnantNowScrewed · 26/06/2024 09:32

@PurpleBath do NOT say you are on antibiotics - it is so obvious.

100% accept drinks and just don’t drink them. If you can get your first glass to be small/only half full, you can even accept “top ups”. I’ve done that at numerous weddings and dinner parties and have never ever been rumbled.

If there are drinks at the bar first you can always ask for a tonic and it obviously looks just like a G&T in a glass.

PregnantNowScrewed · 26/06/2024 09:39

@Melusina123 ive only done 2 tests (had a pack of 2). I will go for an early scan so would rather save my money for that than on pissing on sticks.

Im going to have to keep this secret at work for as long as possible and worried it’s going to be very tricky as it’s dc3. With dc1 I didn’t show until over 20 weeks but with dc2 I think it was about 10 weeks 😬

Melusina123 · 26/06/2024 10:49

@PregnantNowScrewed eh, I had a big pack of the OneStep sticks which cost a few pennies each. I had them from when I had to test down after a MC in 2022 so after I tested positive on one this time I realised they'd expired! Still did the job, though. I admire your discipline in only testing twice - I think that's a bit unusual among the Mumsnet TTC crowd.

Yes I've heard your abdominal muscles just quit on you after no 1... with no 1 I basically didn't show properly until well after 20 weeks, just looked like I'd put on a bit of weight. Need to get back to the pregnancy pilates classes ASAP to shore up the muscles!

NC1799 · 26/06/2024 10:50

hi all,
first pregnancy so feeling slightly clueless!!
joining this as i think i’m due start of March, my last period was 3rd Jan to confuse things (irregular periods) but i’m fairly sure i conceived around about 1st June which would make me 4 weeks, clear blue is reading 2-3 weeks at the moment!
had a lot of bloating, sort boobs, fair bit of cramping and back ache and a bit of food aversion but a lot of it comes and goes!

PregnantNowScrewed · 26/06/2024 11:02

Oh yeah I’m thinking of the ones that are £10 a pop @Melusina123. I tested a lot in previous pregnancies but honestly just don’t see the point now - I’ve had 4 miscarriages (and 2 kids) and the tests revealed nothing about how it was all going. For most of my mcs I had good strong progressing lines, with my dc1 the line was very faint.

I usually go for a scan at about 7 weeks and if I see a heartbeat then it’s all good. So 3 weeks to go!

NewMumSendHelp · 26/06/2024 14:03

I agree with others @PurpleBath . Try to drink things that look ambiguous. Appetiser in a champagne flute is a great one, I used it on my wedding and hen do! Nobody suspected a thing.

I did a test this morning as my others have been very faint but this one was pretty undeniable. I feel really lucky that both pregnancies have happened on the first try, it does make me a bit nervous.

No symptoms yet, I dread the morning sickness as last time was vomiting from weeks 6-20. I’m also nervous about how DD2 will react to a sibling. I have one that I have spent a lifetime arguing with so I hope she doesn’t have that. I hear a 3 year age gap is quite desirable though.

PurpleBath · 26/06/2024 15:08

@NewMumSendHelp @PregnantNowScrewed used the accept a drink and don’t drink it technique with my parents at the weekend and worked well! Luckily we were in the garden so I just emptied my wine into the plants every now and again 😅

I just told my boss, it’s a small team and she’ll be ordering at the bar before dinner then topping my glass up in the restaurant. My little boy is almost 2 and I’ve not made secret that we wanted another so she wasn’t shocked! Now she knows she can help me conceal from the rest of the team.

I tried the antibiotics thing last time @Melusina123 and I might as well have just told everyone. Plus I felt so awkward lying about it!

NewMumSendHelp · 26/06/2024 16:41

@PurpleBath its great to have a helpful manager. I’ll probably tell mine quite early as I had a rough first tri last time and if it’s the same this time round I’ll need a lot of their discreet support. Bet the plants loved their wine, probably thought this makes a great change from boring water 😂

ninaballerina12 · 26/06/2024 18:56

Hope everyone is getting on well! I am having a bit of an intermittent dull achy sensation in my right ovary throughout the day today. I’m 4+3 today. I’m not sure I’d be so aware of it if I didn’t know I was pregnant. It’s definitely noticeable but just twinges. Have any of you experienced this? Feeling a bit nervous after my loss in Feb and EPU has booked me in for a scan in 2 weeks due to my history. Just trying to keep relaxed until then!

m00ngirl · 26/06/2024 19:13

@ninaballerina12 I'm having exactly the same, and I also have quite an unpleasant back and hip ache for a day and a half now, going into my upper legs. I'm also only 4w+3. I had no idea my body would feel like this so quickly! I'm worried if everything's ok. Trying to "relax" 🤪

ninaballerina12 · 26/06/2024 19:29

@m00ngirl it amazes me how demanding these poppy seeds are 😂 I felt about 90 getting out of bed yesterday, had a really stiff achy lower back - could just be coincidence but never had this before. I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining as I couldn’t be happier! Hope yours eases up soon, I’m sure we are fine and it’s just a matter of lots happening down there! What does “relax” mean?! 😅

Melusina123 · 26/06/2024 19:42

Haha you guys' colleagues are so vigilant. I don't think anyone at my work would get suspicious if I said I was on antibiotics (they might get suspicious the next time and I came up with another excuse to avoid drinking). But I do have the advantage of having a reputation as not being a big drinker, makes things muchhhh easier.

@ninaballerina12 I had random aches and pains all over my lower abdomen last time. Down to the sides are also the beginning and end of the large bowel so I decided in the end that a lot of what I was feeling was probably the bowel not the ovaries. But until ectopic is ruled out one always frets about pain off to the side!

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 26/06/2024 19:54

Thanks for all the non-drinking tips... trouble is we always get rounds and so it'll be pretty obvious if I ask for a lemonade, we've got drinks in for next week and I'm planning on just saying I hit it hard on holiday if anyone asks.

@NewMumSendHelp @PurpleBath I also told my manager today - I figured that if things went well I'd be telling him in a few weeks anyway, and if there was any problems, and I needed time off, he'd need to record the reason with HR so would find out anyway (they record time off for pregnancy sickness or loss separately to standard sick leave so it doesn't 'count' as being sick). His actual words were 'I was hoping at somepoint you'd tell me that'.

I'm still only having mild symptoms, which is the same as previous pregnancies but given how long we we trying for, and our loss, I think I'm more paranoid than before. I want to rush to the loo after every twinge to check for blood.

Literally just took this test so very early days and still in shock but I think I may be joining you guys on this journey. Tell me if I’m seeing things or if this is really a BFP

I can see a line! Mine were been faint like this then I left it a few days and it got darker. Congratulations!

@Melusina123 we’re all scientists working in the medical space so well aware that you can have a few on most antibiotics! I think that in combination with the fact everyone is expecting me to be pregnant would make it v obvious!

Glad to hear you also had a v positive experience with your manager @Kingofthetyrantlizards. Makes everything so much easier!

Welcome @MOLWI and big congrats!
