I've just seen the midwife for my 38 week app, she said baby is very low and she doesn't think it will be long 🤞🏻

Faithincats · 12/06/2024 12:55

Has anyone's midwife told them it's okay to use a TENS machine in pregnancy (before labour)? I'd like to test mine out before the big day, and my midwife didn't seem to know if it was safe or not... 🤔Google says it's fine in the third trimester.

DanisEndo · 12/06/2024 13:26

@Suchardchoccy eeeee that’s so exciting! I have my 38 weeker tomorrow and still in a state of disbelief how close everything is.

@Faithincats i haven’t but I’ll be briefly testing on my back, I would be tentative to on my stomach

Suchardchoccy · 12/06/2024 14:05

@DanisEndo I know!! She's given me some advice on how to get things going before my sweep next Wednesday, and given me some free Emma's diary stuff 😁

the tens machine shouldn’t ever go on your stomach so definitely don’t put it there!

I would get your DH to test it out at this stage. It’s quite off putting if you feel it before labour, because the pain feels
awful when you’re not there, but during labour it’s a lifesaver!

What was her advice? Please share! 40 weeks Friday and I’ve really had enough but trying to hold out until 41 for sweep

@Anxiousheartbeat as soon as I feel a "niggle" (which I'm assuming is period back ache or cramps), walk up the stairs two at a time or sit backwards on the toilet leaning forward on your phone for 10-30 mins. Clary sage oil and jasmine oil with a carrier oil on reflexology points and Clary sage oil and Jasmine oil in a warm bath. Expressing colostrum. I'm going to try the bath now! These things might not work but also do no harm I suppose 😊

Ohhhh thank you! Haven’t heard of that! Off to Amazon prime some clary sage

😂 I put about 6 drops of Clary sage and 4 drops of jasmine in my bath, I'm having Braxton hicks but that's nothing new!

Oh my god
keep me posted! My entire day is just braxton hicks starting and stopping and me getting excited then deflated.

DanisEndo · 12/06/2024 17:04

That’s so exciting and great tips @Suchardchoccy !

I probably didn’t give anywhere near enough context to my comment on TENs! I’ve used TENs a lot for endometriosis pain which is almost entirely placed on the stomach, I’m used to the sensation the TENs introduces even at the very top level which is why I’ll give it a trial when it arrives but yes, not on the belly this time while pregnant.

That makes a lot more sense 😀

Thanks @DanisEndo and @Anxiousheartbeat. My partner can be the guinea pig for now 😀

I'm 40w today and at my midwife appt earlier it already felt like I was being pushed towards having a sweep, and ultimately induction. Crazy you can't even get past your [estimated] due date without feeling the pressure! I came home and did lots of weeding on my hands and knees, and am currently in my first clary sage bath... 😅

Happy due date!!! At least you know you’re on the other side of the big day…could realistically now actually be any time.

also keep me posted on the bath please! Going to hit the clary sage hard come Friday when I’m 40w. Although DC2 has his birthday Saturday so quite keen to get past then

15rainbow · 12/06/2024 19:01

Update from me:
Still no baby or proper labour. Waters broke 42 hours ago now, was booked in for an induction after 24 hours but there's no room in the labour ward for me so I'm sat around on the ward not doing a lot and bored. Any bingable box set recommendations welcome! Would quite like to just go home now

glasshalffull0 · 12/06/2024 19:36

37+3 today and the pain/pressure/soreness is getting pretty unbearable especially when I walk anyway but it was my last day at work today until next June!

I also think I’ve lost my mucus plug it was extremely thick and jelly like, a yellow tinged colour though rather than having blood in it.

its very strange being in this limbo where baby could come anytime between now and up to 5 ish weeks!

Wheeeeee · 12/06/2024 19:38

Congratulations @Goldie1234 @LizzeyBenett @cheeseplease3 @oop and @FantasticMissFox !! Apologies if I missed anyone - so many new arrivals 😍

Wheeeeee · 12/06/2024 19:40

@oop your labour sounds a lot like my first, timing-wise - intense is the word!

Yes I hate the limbo feeling!

Anxiousheartbeat · 13/06/2024 09:00

I have an absurd question for someone who has done this 3 times already but here we are…

all of my braxton hicks the last few weeks have been the whole stomach tightening plus pain at the top. From yesterday night and today the whole stomach is not tightening and I am getting a strip of horrendous period pains down by the bottom of my stomach. Does this mean something is wrong, or is this how it’s supposed to be?

MizzMarple · 13/06/2024 09:29

That sounds like the beginning of labour to me @Anxiousheartbeat ?

Sorry you’re still waiting @15rainbow you must be shattered. Hopefully things will get going soon.

Thank you for answering - only ever had sweeps to start things off so I’m not sure how long this bit takes without a sweep having pushed it/if this is it. I was getting quite sure earlier this was it as the pains were soooo long but now I don’t know. Movements have slowed a little too so not sure if I should go to triage but they are still there and could just be the baby getting ready. I’m in a clary sage bath 😀 hope @15rainbow your little bundle is here!
