Is anyone planning to get an early scan?

I had one with DC1 at 8 weeks and was glad I did as eased the anxiety a bit. Don’t know whether to go a bit earlier this time.

We have got an early scan already booked in the early pregnancy unit for the 24th May, when I will be 8 weeks.
I'm having that scan because we lost our baby girl at 29 weeks in January, I'm going to be followed in the Rainbow Clinic at my hospital so it means more scans and checks.

Yes! I'm booked in for an early scan two weeks tomorrow 🤞🏻 I also had my first appointment with the midwife today

MaybeBaby2024 · 27/04/2024 23:01

@Sangels267 oh goodness I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s good you’re getting extra checks this time.

@babydust23 gosh midwife already? That’s so early. Where I live they don’t want to know until your booking visit at 12 weeks lol.

I’ve booked a scan for the 15th May, going to try not to tell anyone until after that.

Itonlytakesone · 27/04/2024 23:10

@babydust23
iv not even booked in or anything yet and you've seen a midwife!! How many weeks are you? How did you get a scam that early is it private? I need to get started on all these jobs like my maternity exception card ect Smile

My due date is also 5 January. Been a very rough journey to this point with 3 MC, 2 CP and not the best start to this pregnancy. I had thyroid surgery on Thursday and found out I was pregnant on Friday. So I'm very worried that the anesthetic has harmed the baby. I've already started taking progesterone and doing my best to relax and recover. I don't think I'll contact the midwives until I'm past 5 weeks though as they won't be able to organise any scans or do much of anything until after 6 weeks. I'll speak with my surgeon next week when I return to have my stitches removed. I made everyone on my case aware that there was potential of me being pregnant even though I'd tested negative the day of and the 2 prior days before my surgery.

As a PP said, I hope I'm not being too much of a downer. We're both thrilled to be pregnant again as we've been trying for our first for over 2 years now. Just so full of fear and anxiety as well.

@Dogmum25 @Itonlytakesone @GreenPickle @JunkJane @MaybeBaby2024 @Rosey93 @Sangels267 @babydust23 @readyforroundthree I know I've already wished some of you congrats but for those who I haven't congratulations 🎊💫

@JunkJaneour situations are so similar. I've had 2mc and 2 chemicals. I'm also on progesterone twice daily. I'm 17 dpo now. How are you feeling?

I have rang the hospital due to my background. I have a 7 week scan booked in 21st May. Also, obsessed with testing. Will stop on Thursday once I take a cb weeks digital to see if the weeks move on.

I self referred a couple of days after my first positive pregnancy test and then the midwife called me on Thursday asking if she could come Saturday to fill in initial paperwork, take my blood pressure and co2 levels 😊 she also handed my 12 week scan letter which is on the 3rd of July. I explained that I have long cycles so I should only be around 9 weeks at this time and she said if that's the case they will give me an EDD and scan me again at 12 weeks. My first scan is privately booked yes 😊 I always feel like it doesn't seem real until I've seen that first scan!

JunkJane · 28/04/2024 18:22

@JTL1983 I'm doing well with recovering. It's such a weird time because I've no idea if the symptoms I have are pregnancy related or surgery/recovery related. All I know is I'm tired all the time, I get random indigestion, and I've been constipated. Lol all pregnancy symptoms but also all could just be related to surgery. Guess we will just have to see what sticks around when I'm fully healed.

I have just started to get sore breasts though so that's definitely pregnancy related. I take comfort in having these definitive symptoms though as it means things are still progressing. My line progression hasn't darkened over the last few days though. I'm hoping tomorrow's test will show some darker lines.

I'm on the fence whether or not to phone the midwives yet. I know from past experience they won't book anything this early, but still might be good to talk to them as well as my surgical team about the concerns I have. Hope you and all the other ladies are keeping well this weekend.

WonderingAboutBabies · 28/04/2024 19:31

Hi all, hopping on! Got a faint positive yesterday, and then a proper one today at 9DPO! ❤️

Still very cautious as it is early days...

Due date apparently 4th January 👀

@JunkJane I forgot to mention my due date is the 5th Jan too according to dates. I agree I also take comfort in having symptoms. Mine are coming and going but not sure if I'm having them due to the progesterone - tired, thirsty, heavier and achy boobs, nausea and feel full. As soon as they go I panic 🙈. When do you think they will book you in? Hope you've had a nice weekend too.

@WonderingAboutBabies congratulations 🎊

Congratulations @WonderingAboutBabies , my due date is 3rd January 😉

Taking one day at a time too.

JunkJane · 29/04/2024 04:16

@WonderingAboutBabies congratulations. 🥳

@JTL1983 due date buddies! And based on your user ID I think we may also be similar ages. I'll be 39 in a few months (1985). Is this your first? Crazy how similar our stories are ❤️

Elisabeth3468 · 29/04/2024 07:05

Hey I'm not sure when my due date will be as I ovulated day 19/20. Does anyone know how they'll work out my due date if I ovulated this late? My last period was 23rd March.
It's our second, first baby was ivf. We've been trying for just coming up to a year next month and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those two lines. I hope this baby sticks ❤️❤️

JTL1983 · 29/04/2024 07:33

@Elisabeth3468 congrats 🎊 calculate your due date, you typically add 266 days to the date of ovulation. If you ovulate on cycle day 19 or 20 after a period starting on March 23rd:

  • If you ovulated on cycle day 19, your due date would be December 30th.
  • If you ovulated on cycle day 20, your due date would be December 31st.

These are rough estimates.

@JunkJane yes im 40 😊 no problem conceiving just need that one which sticks. Luckily I do have two children from a previous relationship who are 22 and 19. People think I'm mad for wanting to start again. But I've always wanted another and my partner doesn't haven't children.

Elisabeth3468 · 29/04/2024 08:31

@JTL1983 Thank you so much! I am going to have an early scan, will baby measure "behind" if I ovulated later?
As they generally go off last period don't they.

JTL1983 · 29/04/2024 09:11

@Elisabeth3468 if you tell them the date of your last period but also you think you ovulated later CD 19/20 they should be able to work out where you should be measurement wise. Maybe they could schedule in the scan a little later? I don't have mine until the 21st May it's going to feel like forever.

JunkJane · 29/04/2024 10:00

@JTL1983 oh the 21st is a long way away. You'll need to keep yourself busy with distractions between now and then. And I hear you on the sticking part. I'm a gold medalst at falling pregnant (I declined the award ceremony as it felt too braggy) but I've not managed to stay pregnant past 8 weeks

I just phoned the midwives there and they gave me the number for the recurrent miscarriage clinic (busy so I'll try again) and said they will book me in for a reassurance scan 3 weeks from my first positive test so that would be a few days before your scan. Looks like we will both need to distract ourselves before then.

I see often other posters talking about blood tests and monitoring HCG over 48 hours. How does one go about getting bloods checked? My GP surgery is always busy with no appointments ever. I've never gone private for anything so don't even know what to Google other than "private blood tests near me". Any guidance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated ❤️

DecemberRose19 · 29/04/2024 11:02

Hi hope you don't mind me joining! Got my BFP last week. I'm currently 5 weeks 2 days going by the first day of my last period. Absolutely no symptoms other than a missed period and three positive tests though! Anyone else? Slightly worried about this.

JTL1983 · 29/04/2024 12:06

@JunkJane I got to 10 weeks and it was a blighted ovum. Fab re scan and def try keep busy. Hopefully it will fly by. Where are you from? I'm Manchester, UK and we don't get our hcg levels tested like other places unless you end up in hospital. I too have done the same and googled places that will do it. I'm in two minds what to do.

@DecemberRose19 congratulations. I've read (I read tons) that most people get symptoms around the 6 week mark and some people don't get any (lucky) try not to worry which is easier said than done. My symptoms were light on Saturday and back on Sunday and today not too bad. I said to my partner I need to chill out because I can't control the outcome but again easier said than done.

MaybeBaby2024 · 29/04/2024 13:05

Queasiness is definitely kicking in today. Spoke to my GP about getting 5mg folic acid on prescription. And mood is terrible, burst into tears after work yesterday 😅

Symptoms are nice and reassuring but strong symptoms definitely make it a lot harder to hide from people that you’re pregnant!

You may have some symptoms but not realise that they are pregnancy symptoms as well. I'm about 4w2d and I cannot stop burping 😆. Starting to feel nauseous and I can only stomach small meals/snacks, rather than larger plates of food. Give it time ❤

Brill thank you ! How many weeks Will you be at your early scan? I was going to book one for 7/8 weeks x

Newhere1993 · 29/04/2024 15:51

Got BFP last Friday then retested yesterday (second photo) as was worried about it being faint! However depending on which calculator I'm either a 29th December baby or a 1st Jan baby so I thought I'd pop on here. First time completely going through this for me.

Congratulations to you all!!

So excited but never felt so worried and on edge about what my body is doing 🙈

Are going to tell parents and SIL soon due to family events and also just incase anything does happen so we have support around us but then not go public until (fingers crossed) if all okay at 12 weeks
