Hey guys, new thread for the April due dates.

Looks like the other thread maxed out before someone could make a new one, so I'll tag a few people and then if they could tag a few and they tag a few and so on, so we can try and get everyone in.

There's no way I can get everyone tagged myself, it's a nightmare on mobile.

@Emmerdaleaddict thank you. They have just finished the pilot where I live so I have just missed out. I'm as bit of a worrier so I do plan to do it as it's something I have a little bit of control over!

Knock123 · 13/03/2024 14:09

@Hopefulfirstround Ahh I am jealous! I am finishing Friday!

I was absolutely sure I would go overdue last time but she arrived 37+5 after an emergency induction. I know lots of people who felt baby would be early and they ended up going over, you really never know.

Once baby is here you'll be wishing for a day to lounge around napping and eating so try to enjoy it.

BVIre · 13/03/2024 15:54

Think I might regret asking this question and trying not to think about it too much but curiosity getting the better of me!

1st time mum here! But just wondering about other people’s experience with baby weight! Like if you were a big baby, did you then have a big baby? Info online all seems very conflicting but I was a 9lb10 baby and my husband was 10lbs!! Our baby is tracking along at like the 60th percentile when the midwife has been measuring my bump and has been very consistent along it which would put him at roughly 8lb8 for someone of my height and weight!

I was a size 6/8 pre-pregnancy but am 5ft 10 and my husband is a big guy- 6ft3 and a rugby player build. So have kind of got myself a bit panicked that the baby is going to come out massive but just keen to hear other people’s experience!

Knock123 · 13/03/2024 16:19

I really don't want to unnecessarily panic you @BVIre but my best friend felt she was having a large baby and she kept being fobbed off. Her baby ended up being 10lb and she had a very difficult labour which I won't go into detail on as it most likely won't happen to you (but they are both fine). She always measured around 70th centile.

She is also a size 6/8 but she has a particularly narrow pelvis and they've since said even if baby was 70th she probably would have struggled and this should have been spotted by midwife. Neither her or her husband are big people and both were small babies, she also didn't have GD.

What I'm saying is, if you have a gut feeling, insist on a growth scan! My experience is if you insist the midwives and doctors are very good at listening to mothers instinct.

Not sure how much husband/partners birth weight comes into it. My husband was a 10lb baby, I was 7lb and my first was 6lb 1 (although small for geststional age) and my current one is trending around the same, expecting 7lb if I get to 40 weeks. I am 5'9 and a curvy size 10. Tiny bump though!

BVIre · 13/03/2024 17:36

Thank you @Knock123 thats actually made me feel better because I don’t feel like baby is massive! Like im still not super uncomfortable (36+4) and don’t feel super heavily pregnant which a lot of my friends have by this stage and people are telling me that I am carrying neat- again I think because im tall!

it had just come up over a family lunch on Sunday and I didn’t realise what a big baby I was and then I got my partner to check with his mum what size he was and started to overthink! But he doesn’t feel huge and I had my 36 week appointment with the midwife today and I had asked her and she said to be honest she’s always been able to feel him really clearly and he doesn’t feel massive to her when she’s checking! So that’s actually reassuring to hear thank you!!

Hello! Sorry my first post here, been watching the April thread since the start, it's helped me greatly with reassurance throughout the pregnancy!🙂
I'm expecting my 2nd (girl) in April 16th, so 35 weeks now.
My midwife has booked me for a growth scan as bump is measuring small - has anyone else had additional scans due to this? What was the outcome? Has anyone experienced small measurements just due to how baby is laying? I find she's really low down in the mornings but my late afternoon my bump feels like its doubled in size, so I'm wondering if thats what's caused the small measurements..

Hello,

I had similar situation at 29 weeks, was referred for growth scan pretty quickly. I thought they were measuring wrong as I tend to carry all my weight (pre preg) on my mid section. However, scan indicated baby on 3rd centile. So had an CTG, baby all ok. Then followed up with a check of blood flow via Doppler and a check of fluid around baby, again all ok. On second scan, baby at 5th centile blood flow and fluid still looking ok. Have another scan next week. Hoping baby has grown a bit.

I think because the placenta, fluid and blood flow looking ok, they think it’s just small gestational age rather than fetal growth restriction.

Will be asking more questions when in for next scan, but believe they look to induce between 37-39 weeks depending on how baby is coping.

Not sure how helpful that is, but I’m just taking each week as it comes and trying to rest and eat well.

GLC789 · 13/03/2024 18:04

Can I join please? 😌.

Due April 30th. First baby.

Was in another thread but it's been pretty silent. I think a few from there have joined here though 👀👀.

I'm excited / nervous / tired!!

I cannot wait for my maternity leave to start at the end of this month 😂 xx

Pinkstuffs · 13/03/2024 21:30

Placemarking as lost the new thread.

I’m 34 weeks now, everything I’ve read suggests I should have sore boobs and be leaking colostrum but I’ve had nothing! Is that normal?

I leaked once with my first, at 2 days post baby! I'm 35 weeks and nothing yet this time either

SummerOak · 13/03/2024 22:34

@Pinkstuffs I'm almost 36 weeks and no leeks so far. When I went to breastfeeding class they said it's completely normal to not have any leaking before birth, but that you can still try to express colostrum from 37 weeks.

BuzzybeeMum · 11/03/2024 23:54

@MumDaisy1980 I didn’t see any piles but I had some blood in my stool a few weeks ago, and doctor suspected piles and recommended anusol cream which you can just buy over the counter. After using it a couple of times mine cleared up!

@BuzzybeeMum thank you so much!
I am at the moment soaking Epsom salt 2-3times a day for 3 days now. Situation has been calmed down but not fully recover.
will check out cream with my GP if the Bath not working. Thanks!

MumDaisy1980 · 11/03/2024 01:29

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess thanks for setting up a new thread

@chlo299 congrats! Hope baby girl get better soon.

all, I have a bit of a embarrassed situation never experience before but apparently it’s common in third trimester. It’s piles and to the extent that disturb my sleep. I experienced maybe a lot mild before when not preg. But currently it’s awfully painful.😫 I started trying some treatments advice in NHS website, like using wet wipes and soak in Epsom salt. I aren’t sure if it helps during preg , as most articles I read said they will naturally go away after birth. I wonder if anyone experienced this and had tried any effective remedies could share? Thanks !

After several weeks of "will they wont they", yesterday I finally got a proper hemorrhoid 😭Id been getting really swollen when going to the toilet (even if just to pee, everything seemed to bulge when sitting on the toilet, but obviously, the longer, the worse it got!), but usually, within 10 minutes of getting up, everything was back to normal!

Well... yesterday I got distracted reading some messages after a wee, and one small bulge did not go down, and is a tiny tiny bit painful, kinda like a paper cut.
1 week before the baby comes!!! I was soooo close!!!

I will try to treat it this week with over the counter remedies, and hope it goes away soon!

Petris123 · 14/03/2024 21:06

So I've just gone to a restaurant and ordered some lamb stew thinking it would be well done, started eating it and some bits looked a bit pink inside, so obviously stopped eating it. Now apart from blaming myself for not asking in advance I'm also panicking 😫😫😫 does anyone know how much of a risk there is? tia

sweetdreams23 · 14/03/2024 21:14

@Petris123 I’ve had steaks out a couple of times which have been rare , and I’ve been all good. I’ve also had roast lamb/ beef which has been pink. I know it’s not recommended but personally I’ve been fine and I don’t do it all the time just ever so often when I’ve really fancied a steak 🤣 but then I was also eating smoked salmon quite alot and didn’t realise guidance had changed on that since my last pregnancy- oops! I’m sure stewed meat is fine, surely it’s been cooked for a long time. Could the pinkness not just been the colour of the meat?

Petris123 · 14/03/2024 21:22

@sweetdreams23 well not sure if it was strictly stew, it's a Turkish restaurant, it was lamb cooked in a sauce but not sure how long it cooked for! I see, thank you, maybe I'm overthinking this, my mum definitely thinks so 😣

BVIre · 14/03/2024 22:14

@Petris123 my midwife was really dismissive about this when she was chatting me through foods to avoid at my booking appointment! She said even a medium-rare steak is fine as it’s seared well and that is what kills off most of the harmful stuff!

I also think someone had mentioned on an earlier thread that they were a chef and they said the heat in which they sear steaks/meat would definitely do the job- so not one to be super strict on I wouldn’t have thought!

Petris123 · 14/03/2024 23:05

@BVIre thank you for sharing, that's really reassuring to hear! xx

ASGIRC · 15/03/2024 00:06

@Petris123 Youll be fine.
First, it is not the meat being rare, in an of itself, that causes issues. There has to be harmful bacteria in the meat, either toxo or listeria!
Second, a bit of pink means it was still cooked, and probably enough for it to kill all bacteria!
Third, and possibly most important, in the third trimester, our babies are basically fully formed, so the danger that comes with toxo is reduced, as there is less to affect!

So do not stress about it at all!

BuzzybeeMum · 15/03/2024 10:23

Hi everyone!

I have a question about colostrum and harvesting it. I tried it properly for the first time yesterday and got some droplets out and tried to collect them with a syringe. It’s barely got anything in it but I put it in the freezer. I’ve been reading and apparently now I can’t use the same syringe as I’ll defrost it and it won’t be okay for baby? So each time I have to use a new syringe but then there will barely be anything in it so I don’t understand how I’m meant to collect a proper amount. (Also the midwife only gave me five syringes!). I understand I can express up to three times a day at 36 weeks so I’ll start doing that and at least I can use the syringe three times, but even then I don’t think I’ll have much in it.
Does anyone have any tips/experience of this?

PeppedUp · 15/03/2024 13:14

Hi @BuzzybeeMum I did colostrum harvesting last time. I always kept going until it filled the syringe (think they were 1ml)

How many weeks are you? Maybe you’ll be able to get more out as you get closer to your due date or even just with practice? I think I started around 34 weeks last time. I started off only able to get one syringe but then it got up to two and I think there were some days where I got to three

How are yours doing?
Mine seems to be a bit smaller and a bit less uncomfortable today, after some nappy rash cream applications!

Cora24601 · 15/03/2024 14:55

@BuzzybeeMum I've also started thinking about this, I think I'm too impatient/it's just not happening atm for me (37+2). The midwife & HV said to do it a few times throughout the day, you can keep the syringe in the fridge and keep adding to it for the 1 day then pop in the freezer. So essentially 1 syringe per day kept in fridge then pop in freezer.

@ASGIRC
mine still uncomfortable, not fully recover . Thanks for asking.

but way better than before I started treatment. I had two days cannot sleep because it’s was sooo painful!!

lucky I work from home so whenever after #2 I will soak myself in salt bath for 15 mins. I will try it for two weeks. If still not heal I will go see doctor (but I have to admit I feel embarrassed to go to the doctor! 😔)
