Hi ladies, I couldn’t find another thread made, so made this as the other one was full. I will try tag a few people … if you can also tag.

Managed to catch a dreaded cough! Anyone know what meds we’re allowed as breastfeeding mums apart from paracetamol?

missquiet · 10/12/2023 23:38

I would speak to your pharmacist, I had a chest infection week 2 and there was barely anything I could take (I didn't need antibiotics thankfully) pretty much had to just ride it out taking paracetamol as and when for headache

ttcttc · 20/12/2023 18:47

Hope you're all doing well.

I had my 8 week "post Partum" appointment with the Gp today ... I thought it was for me, the doctor was like "wheres your baby" the girls on reception were tickled when I went to book another appointment 😂 ironically I always have him with me but partner was off today and weather was crap so I said I'd just nip down 😂

Nobody told me what the appointment was for 😂

Sagittarius25 · 20/12/2023 18:50

@ttcttc that's poor communication on their side! And also half the appointment is meant to be for you and half for baby. I had a letter saying the appointment had been booked and to take baby's red book etc.

ttcttc · 20/12/2023 21:42

The text said for you and baby. I've obviously just got baby brain lol

Koalawhala · 22/12/2023 17:05

Hope everyone is doing ok. We delayed our 8 week jabs as baby wasn’t feeling well on the day. I’m glad we did as it’s turned out to be covid. She’s had a high temperature since yesterday but seems to be on the mend now.

Hope everyone else manages to avoid it and has a great 1st Christmas with babies

peonygirl · 22/12/2023 20:51

@Koalawhala oh I hope she gets better soon. There's some nasty variant on the rise, so many people are ill. We did have the jabs but they were also postponed because both, GP and nurse, were off sick. The little one responded poorly to the jabs and we ended up in the hospital at the pediatric ward again. He is doing ok now, we went out again and we are cuddling a lot.

Question for those who formula feed - how much do you feed and how often? I have further feeding issues where consultants and GPs cannot agree on how much he should be fed. Yeah - I'd rather not go into this discussion. So much work with feeding this little one and he is not even a fussy eater.

katherine123x · 23/12/2023 12:24

@peonygirl how much does baby weigh? That can be a big difference compared to others. My boy is 16lb2!

peonygirl · 23/12/2023 13:23

@katherine123x mine is 10lb 12 and is also younger than yours I believe. I just wanted to get an idea bcos I was told to up the feed to 5oz but now they asked me to drop down to 4oz. I have an unhappy baby that doesn't sleep bcos, I suspect, he's hungry.

katherine123x · 23/12/2023 13:52

@peonygirl he's 12 weeks
Personally we have pace fed and let him tell us!!
I would do whatever you think is best for baby. If you think they are hungry feed them! Mummy knows best 💕

Sagittarius25 · 23/12/2023 15:47

@peonygirl my boy is 8 weeks tomorrow and takes a whole 6oz bottle every 4-5 hours, totalling 5 feeds a day. He's very happy to take the whole bottle each time so falls into more a scheduled routine but I would be doing more demand feeding if he took less/varied how much he took.

Haven't had him weighed recently but we've even had to start changing some scoops of formula to hungry baby as he was on 6oz and getting hungry still a whole week before the feeding guide on the formula packet said he should be on 6oz for age. He's much happier with the mix of two formulas now.

I would be trusting your instinct and if baby seems hungry, feed your baby.

peonygirl · 23/12/2023 16:02

@Sagittarius25 Thank you, this is really helpful. My boy is also 8 weeks and was on 5oz every 2.5h -3h, total 8 feeds a day. I was told by pediatrician that's too much and GP agreed. So I swapped to 4oz every 3-4h but after the jabs and this change, our routine is out of the window. He struggled to sleep this morning, eating every 2.5h now he's sleeping for 4h and will slowly wake up for a feed again. But he's restless, eating hecticly and has problems with burps. It's hard to watch him unsettled and struggling. He will also only sleep peacefully on me or in a sling.

Sagittarius25 · 23/12/2023 16:08

@peonygirl you know your baby best to be honest, we've always been feeding as per the feeding guide if not more and he's always stayed on the 50th centile. If he seems unsettled and unhappy, he's probably still hungry. Sounds like my boy was before we started some hungry baby. Health visitor also told us to roughly follow the feeding guide.

Also don't worry about him only sleeping well on you or in a sling, it's still completely normal at this age. My boy only naps in the day well in the sling, or sometimes on the move in the pram. We don't even try to put him down for naps in the day at the moment, it doesn't seem worth the struggle.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 27/12/2023 19:46

Little guy had his 8 week jabs today and he’s absolutely miserable, sleeping loads and then crying all the time he’s awake-we’re dosing with calpol but it’s just so sad to see! Anyone else had this?

Sagittarius25 · 27/12/2023 19:49

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween we also had 8 week jabs today! Defo sleepier than usual and a bit more fussy when awake. Also taking way longer to feed but does actually want the bottle. Just put him down for the night (took about 6 put down attempts because eyes kept pinging open despite how tired he is) and hoping he isn't too unsettled over night. They were done early morning so he's just had his third dose of calpol. He was running a bit warmer and kept checking temp and have removed his vest for sleeping overnight as a precaution as he's swaddled and don't want him to overheat. So much to worry about!

peonygirl · 29/12/2023 18:24

How's everyone doing? Did your little ones have a lovely first Christmas? We were really cozy, at home, cuddling and trying to figure out how to get him out of digestive misery. Boxing Day was stellar, Christmas so-so. We still did some great photos with presents and Christmas onesies :)

I wish everyone an amazing New year celebration, I hope 2024 will treat us equally well as 2023. It was definitely a life-changing year for me :)

ttcttc · 29/12/2023 19:17

My little one had his jabs on Wednesday .. he screamed. He's been off since, miserable, lethargic, whimpering, crying, clinging and off his milk. He also has a temperature but hates calpol and keeps projectile vomiting. I had him checked over while I was in the doctors (for me) today and they say he's fine and hydrated. Awful seeing them out of sorts though

NSx · 01/01/2024 12:44

Happy New Year ladies 🤍✨ I hope 2024 is just as amazing for us as 2023 was.
I hope everyone’s babies are doing well.
I think my baby is the youngest of the group and is already 8 weeks old! Can’t believe how quickly time has passed 🥹🤍✨
@peonygirl I hope you’re little ones digestive issues resolve soon 💙
@ttcttc my girl had her jags on Thursday and I’m already dreading it, it sounds awful 🥺

@NSx he was back to himself by Friday/saturday. His appetite is back too. All smiles

Onethingiwantfor23 · 01/01/2024 13:31

Happy New Year @NSx!

My baby is 12 weeks tomorrow and it saddens me each week with how quickly he's growing! I want to rewind and have him all over again.
Does anyone's baby still wake every 2 hours throughout the night for feeds? I thought he'd go for longer in between by now 💤

ttcttc · 01/01/2024 19:53

@Onethingiwantfor23 my baby does but I'm bottle feeding now so think it's different.

CL05071998 · 01/01/2024 23:20

I am breastfeeding and my baby is 11 weeks, we got our first 6 hour stretch this weekend but typically he goes down around 11.30pm -12 and we get the first stretch anywhere from 3-5hours and he will wake up every 1-2 hours then until around 9am or maybe less if I bring him into bed. What I've noticed that helps is if I pump a bottle and dad gives him that then I feed to sleep. I think he may have been falling asleep on the boob too soon without filling up, or could just be coincidence 🤔

PrimarilyParented · 01/01/2024 23:26

@Onethingiwantfor23 my boy is 14 weeks on Thursday and sleeps longer stretches but doesn’t have a definite bedtime so sometimes keeps me up until 2am. He usually ends up in the bed with me after he first wakes in the night so that I get some sleep. I think all babies are different though as my older son was waking every hour by this age.

missquiet · 02/01/2024 19:52

Happy New Year everyone!

My little boy is 11 weeks on Thursday so sad how quickly he is growing! But love that he is just starting to notice his hands the last couple of days and sits staring at them in amazement 😍

Sleep is actually pretty good, I was prepared for the worst after my DD, but he is so much better.

A couple of days reps ago it clicked that 8pm seems to be a good bedtime for him so I've managed to leave him up here the last couple of nights for a couple of hours with the monitor on.

He then sleep a good long stretch to anywhere between 01:00 and 03:00. I do feel very lucky.
I've not done anything in particular he just seems to do this himself. I am exclusively breastfeeding. Going to go to a drop in clinic to get him weighed next week I think.hes starting to get to big for his 0-3 clothes.

OrionNebula · 02/01/2024 22:30

Happy new year everyone! My little girl is 3 months old today, it has flown by. She is generally doing great, loads of smiles, starting to figure out what her hands are for and having a good go at trying to roll! Sleep is mixed but we usually get at least one decent stretch per night. My main concern is she seems to have suddenly developed quite bad reflux in the last week or so... gagging and coughing a lot after feeding, couple of scary projectile vomits. Hoping it resolves itself but I have reached out to our public health nurse as I'd like to get her weighed just to check it's not impacting her growth.
