Hi ladies, I couldn’t find another thread made, so made this as the other one was full. I will try tag a few people … if you can also tag.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@NSx thank you 😊

@LWestYorks congratulation! Very exciting!

After Sundays adventure on the delivery ward, still no sign of baby but I did lose mucus plug yesterday, so that was a fun experience! 🙈😂 I'm hoping little boy makes an appearance soon, but not too soon, still a little early here. Booked in for a section on the 18th, I wonder if he will beat us to it!

In support of @PrimarilyParented advice, also look at bamboo breast pads, the little lamb ones are great and very soft. I'm going to try silver nursing cups this time around as well, have heard a lots of good reviews.

thecatsthecats · 05/10/2023 09:51

A very practical one on BF stuff - get a small items bag for the washing machine!

I have one for my pads etc that sits on the washing basket, and two for baby socks. The latter is one full of clean socks, and when they're dirty they go in the empty one. All used - in the wash and the cycle starts again.

Oh, and a new colostrum tip for those harvesting.

I have found that now after a few days, I've started each boob off with the massaging, and got some out. But if you then leave it up to another hour afterwards, loads more will come out after a squeeze without any further massaging. Especially if you leave about 30s-1m between squeezes occasionally. Got 3.5ml yesterday following this method.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 05/10/2023 09:58

@thecatsthecats this is so helpful, thank you! Will try this today because I’ve only been getting about 1ml a day so far!

hipposinacircle · 05/10/2023 10:09

Thanks @NSx

I've been quietly following along the other threads for a while but I feel like I can properly join in now that my section is so close. Booked for the 18th at exactly 39 weeks. Although I wouldn't be sorry if he decided to make an earlier appearance...

However I just need to have a mini rant. I don't know if this is a thing for anyone else but I'm getting so annoyed every time someone asks me what date my section is booked for. I deliberately haven't told anyone because a) the dates can sometime can get changed, and b) I don't want a whole load of 'is he here?' messages on the day itself. I plan on sharing him with the world (my world!) as soon as he's here so it's not like I'm trying to be super secretive or anything.

I suppose this is the equivalent of the 'well, any news?' messages in the last couple of weeks of a normal pregnancy - which I also found hugely annoying! Ok rant over 😁

katherine123x · 05/10/2023 10:15

@PrimarilyParented thank you lovely

I will have a look!

peonygirl · 05/10/2023 10:38

@GemmaJen and @hipposinacircle I am also booked in for the 18th.

I wouldn't mind if he comes earlier than that but I will only be 38w then so currently I am 36w+4 and it is still too early. However, I had a horrible night, was on the toilet every 5min, couldn't sleep, horrible headache, no position was comfortable - just horrible. I need to go back to the hospital later today for BP and bloods, I think they suspect pre-eclampsia and with the headache I'd be inclined to think it might be developing. I generally feel fatigued and ready for the baby to come out, my body is very tired. As much as I am happy about all the positive results from 2 days ago, I am currently so exhausted I just feel I want to be done. Of course I am still working - my maternity is scheduled to start 2 days before section so maybe I need to change that too.

@LWestYorks Congratulations!
@PrimarilyParented thank you for all the advice shared, this is very useful.

Sav96 · 05/10/2023 10:49

@LWestYorks congratulations!

@hipposinacircle I feel your pain with the endless asking of when baby is coming it’s so tiring, I’m booked in for a induction this Sunday 8th and I still have people message every day saying any sign 🤣 no I would have said if baby here!! Drives me mad but whinge over 🙈

on the other hand after my unsuccessful sweep with community midwife on Tuesday I was sweeped again around 4pm at hospital last night and this morning I’ve had my bloody show/mucus plug so I’m hoping he may make an arrival before induction on Sunday 🤞🏼

Glitterb · 05/10/2023 10:57

Congratulations to everyone who has had their October baby 🎃

Hopefully won’t be much longer for us all 🤞🏼 had a consultant appointment yesterday and he has confirmed that baby could come anytime now as all is in place, slightly nervous now!

ttcttc · 05/10/2023 11:30

@hipposinacircle just tell a white lie. "Oh they haven't actually booked me in yet. Understaffed, strikes and they're so busy. I'm going to chase it up. Hopefully won't be dropped on me too last minute!!"

People are insufferable 😂

I can remember telling someone I was pregnant and she said "I knew you were I'd guessed. No you didn't, I haven't seen you for three months. I'm still pissed off about it. Why do people want to feel overly involved. Weird ha

peonygirl · 05/10/2023 12:30

@hipposinacircle oh I get the question about section all the time too. In my case, I have to arrange a lot of things and people to support me post-partum so I sort of need to share. But I am quiet about the date to my friends etc. because I don't want additional pressure. I'd support the idea of a white lie.

I had a bizarre experience the other day when someone guessed the name I will use for the little one. It came out of nowhere and very directly as in "if you don't have a name picked yet, how about this one?" I have a wooden name tag made with the very same name. Still don't know what to think of it 😊

ttcttc · 05/10/2023 12:37

@peonygirl oooh I'd be a bit put out. They'll be thinking they picked that name for you ... obvs not haha

Esl17 · 05/10/2023 12:49

@VanillaOat we must have the same due date of Saturday as I’m 39+5 today. Any signs of anything happening for you yet? Nothing here although I do feel the bump has dropped a bit…

hipposinacircle · 05/10/2023 13:22

@ttcttc @peonygirl oh I am lying my arse off to everyone at the moment! I've told them that I'm still waiting. Hopefully my evasiveness will put people off asking again. Admittedly my hormones are definitely playing a part in how unreasonable I am feeling!

Koalawhala · 05/10/2023 13:37

It's tricky with c section dates, I've tended to just tell people when it's "pencilled in" and be a bit vague but can see how the added pressure on the day won't be good. I might put my phone on airplane mode when I wake up on the day

I remember a friend of mine not comfortable sharing her date and then her sister in law posting on Facebook the morning of the section "can't wait for my new niece to arrive today!", my friend was livid understandably

thecatsthecats · 05/10/2023 14:04

@Koalawhala omg, I'd be fuming!

I've actually been told that things are looking possible for a 38 week delivery one way or another, but we're just saying "looks like he's staying out" to family.

Especially the in laws! My mum is very chill and hands off because she's just like me and was private herself, but MIL is keen to drive us to the hospital (she lives an hour away and it's 15m from us...).

And FIL keeps asking me "have they decided that it will be a natural birth then?". No matter how many times I reply "I'm not sure who they is, but they don't get to decide".

I'm going to hibernation after last meeting with them tomorrow...

PrimarilyParented · 05/10/2023 14:16

@ttcttc i got the MOMMED Breast Pump https://amzn.eu/d/dxXtdsU

ttcttc · 05/10/2023 15:03

@PrimarilyParented let us know how it is! Going to have a quick look at reviews now

VanillaOat · 05/10/2023 15:06

@Esl17 I’ve been feeling absolutely totally normal up until this morning when I lost my mucus plug! I know it could still be ages but it got me excited that something was happening 😂

is this your first? Xxx

Esl17 · 05/10/2023 15:26

@VanillaOat oh how exciting! Yes first for me, how about you? Xx

VanillaOat · 05/10/2023 15:30

@Esl17 first for me too! Little girl 💞 do you know what you’re having? Xxx

Esl17 · 05/10/2023 15:51

@VanillaOat boy over here 💙I’m jealous of your plug! Got a midwife appt on Saturday morning, got to decide whether I went to have a sweep or not. No signs at all yet just feeling ridiculously tired the last 2 days like I don’t want to leave the house at all, not sure if that’s my body’s way of telling me to conserve energy for Labour or I’m just tired from lugging a baby around! Xx

BeaKind · 05/10/2023 15:59

@Esl17 I’m feeling super tired atm too. If I stand for 5 minutes I want to sit down 😬

Also another receiving funny comments. MIL said to me yesterday “are we nearly there yet?”. She knows I’m due end of October 🙄

VanillaOat · 05/10/2023 16:16

@Esl17 I’ve been offered a sweep for Tuesday which I still felt was really early as I’d only be 40+3! I wasn’t going to accept it at first but now I’ve lost the plug I’m thinking I will if nothing has happened.
Try a big walk even if you don’t feel like it and are too tired, I’ve been going every day and I reckon that’s what brought on the plug coming out this morning as it was as soon as I got home!

thecatsthecats · 05/10/2023 16:19

@BeaKind

You'd think they'd bloody KNOW that's not how it works, since they have their own children!

I'm thinking of buying a pack of shiny stickers labelled "tedious observation of the week" to award to everyone who tells me that babies wake up and need feeding etc.
