@Koalawhala due date was the 30th. At least it’s sooner than that!

BeaKind · 02/10/2023 15:24

@doeandfawn @Koalawhala mine’s 30th 😩 very tempting to book in for a c section at 39 weeks as they say I can book from then. Going for VBAC though so we’ll see when little bub decides on making an appearance. Haha!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 02/10/2023 16:39

@OrionNebula congratulations! Was that around what they were estimating weight wise?

I went in for my 38 week midwife apt today, baby is engaged and has dropped so I’m very pleased! I’m really hoping they come next week but know first babies rarely come early.

colostrum harvesting is well and truly underway, managed 1ml yesterday but only 0.5ml today - anyone got any tips?

NSx · 02/10/2023 17:17

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween it doesn’t work for me 😂 I don’t know where to start tbh!

@OrionNebula ohhhhh congratulations 🩷🩷🩷the first girl of the group!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 02/10/2023 17:32

@NSx i found being warm in bed after a bath helps and the expert midwife video on it is the most helpful one

doeandfawn · 02/10/2023 19:11

People who’ve had their babies: did you use the name you thought you would?

We’ve been calling him one name for half of the pregnancy now but worried we’ll hate it when he arrives so haven’t told anyone what it is!

PeopleAreToads · 02/10/2023 19:20

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween I've found perserving and doing a couple of short sessions a day has worked and I'm getting a lot more now than a week ago. Also found putting the pressure much closer to my nipple than in in the guidance helped

SoBoredOfWaiting · 02/10/2023 20:03

@doeandfawn yes we did, we had one name in mind and decided 100% on it as soon as he was here.
Congratulations @OrionNebula and all others that have had babies!

My lb is now a week old, bf is well established too which is great- anyone with sore nipples, it peaks at day 5 and does get much better!

OrionNebula · 02/10/2023 20:11

Thanks everyone 🥰

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween no they hadn't said she was measuring big at any point!

@doeandfawn we had a shortlist of 3 names and we couldn't decide (I.E kept arguing 😂) so in the end we got DD (4) to pick her favourite ❤️

@peonygirl yes first and only girl so far I think unless I missed one!

thecatsthecats · 02/10/2023 21:25

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween

I accidentally did it "wrong" and got half a ml first go. Then did it "right" and got almost nothing. Went back to doing it wrong and got well over a ml. So my wrong method is:

  • be closer to the nipple than suggested - max 3cm out
  • massage for 5m, by sort of "scooping" the skin inwards, sweeping across the lumpy bit under the skin behind the nipple
  • after 5m in one position, use both hands to squeeze upwards and outwards from the lumpy section to the nipple, as if it were a tube of toothpaste
  • rotate the position clockwise and repeat twice

On a separate note, we are ready here, absolutely totally ready... except my husband has faffed around asking MIL to deliver the buggy she is buying. She wants to know whether we want it at ours or hers. Hmm... since we'll be living in our house and we WFH... HERE. HERE YOU FAFFING BASTARDS.

Now she's suggested she collects it then drives it to us. Except she's currently on holiday. Gaaaaah. I'll be crowning and they still won't have organised themselves. This baby had better have not inherited this gene...

katherine123x · 02/10/2023 21:25

@SoBoredOfWaiting thank you! Sore nipples here!!

cruciverbalista · 02/10/2023 21:52

Congratulations to those who have had their babies 💕 I've been having intermittent contractions all day, it's exhausting. No luck with the colostrum over here, I think I'm just going to worry about it once baby's here at this point.

monsteramunch · 03/10/2023 07:54

Gowned up and ready for our section! Hopefully we'll be first on the list of four here today. Can't believe we finally get to meet our baby girl soon!

Sending lots of luck to everyone else today too Flowers

GemmaJen · 03/10/2023 07:59

Excited to hear about all the new arrivals 😊

After our stint on labour ward on Sunday morning, contractions slowed and we were discharged, went from 3cm down to 1cm... I didn't know you could go backwards! 🙈. We're still early at 36 weeks, so back home and had no contractions since, think this baby was enjoying the extra attention, still waiting on making his grand exit. Section in 2 weeks, I am wondering if we'll make it!

Second the comments about tongue ties, if in doubt get them checked. My daughter had hers cut twice but it was picked up late after a few weeks so she'd formed some bad habits by then, breastfeeding was never comfortable. I'll be getting baby no2 checked before I leave the hospital this time!

GemmaJen · 03/10/2023 08:00

@monsteramunch ahhh, exciting! Hope you have the best day meeting little one x

doeandfawn · 03/10/2023 08:40

@monsteramunch have the best day ever meeting your little one!

Smiffette · 03/10/2023 08:40

Congratulations on the latest arrivals!! How exciting!

I'm 38 weeks today and have had a migraine since yesterday evening 😭 so I'm hoping baby doesn't make an arrival until it's gone as there's no way I could take labour right now. Paracetamol isn't even touching it and I don't think I can take anything stronger... so lots of fluids it is.

I'm trying to get myself ready for a hair appointment in a couple of hours.... it's too late to cancel without being charged and to be honest I don't want to cancel as I know it will be months before I get to go again! plus it might help the migraine a bit of relaxation.

Koalawhala · 03/10/2023 08:55

Good luck @monsteramunch!

peonygirl · 03/10/2023 09:36

Good luck @monsteramunch ! Go, get your girl ❤

Sav96 · 03/10/2023 12:15

Feeling so deflated today!

Had my midwife appointment this morning and was booked in for a sweep, that was unfortunately unsuccessful as her fingers were so tiny she couldn’t reach anything! Feel like this baby is never going to come and was so so hopeful for the sweep 🙈 probably the hormones but could cry!

anyone else ever had an unsuccessful sweep?

peonygirl · 03/10/2023 18:33

@Sav96 Apparently sweeps have 50:50 success rate. Don't be too disheartened, the baby will come when ready. It is frustrating but these things take so much time. Trust your body to know what it is doing.

peonygirl · 03/10/2023 18:47

I had my 36w scan today - the little boy has turned and is now head down! He's also still on the 55 percentile so I couldn't be happier(currently 6lb 5oz). My Doppler was also okay, the whole scan was fine. My glucose is well controlled but now I have high blood pressure. I got medication and hopefully, it will work. I have been offered an induction or elective section. I declined induction at 37w/38w and went with a booking for a section on the 18th of October. The baby sadly won't be a Scorpio as I planned (his due date is 30th October) but I will be 38w+2 then and hopefully, that will be enough for his lungs to fully develop. We will need to adjust the dates if my BP is not under control so I need to go back to the hospital in two days for further monitoring. It's exhausting but we're nearly there. I can't wait to meet him.

doeandfawn · 03/10/2023 18:53

@peonygirl amazing news!

New2thisss · 03/10/2023 19:09

@Sav96 I had my second sweep yesterday but still no baby 🥺 I have my third booked in for Thursday, third time lucky? 🤣

NSx · 03/10/2023 20:18

@peonygirl amazing news, sorry if you’ve already said but was the baby in another position?
I have a scan tomorrow at 37w to check if baby is breech or not 🫠
