@LS888 yes, midwife eventually came by an hour after baby was born (she was sent to the wrong house!), but that did mean I got delayed cord clamping and a long period of skin to skin post birth in my own bed, which was a nice upside! The paramedics were very kind, though disappointed to have arrived after all the action - they checked me and baby over and didn't think we needed to go into hospital. My 3 year old was very excited by the paramedics.

@HRSC congratulations on your little girl! Hope you're doing okay - we're also having shallow latch issues but hoping to work through it with practice. Lucy Webber is good to follow for tips on how to get a deep latch.

BCxx · 26/08/2023 20:58

@HRSC aw lovely, congratulations 😊 glad everything went so well

@Recoba how long after baby arrived did the paramedics turn up? Did your partner have to cut the cord and get instructions over the phone? So much drama! Really is like one of those 999 programmes you see on tv

Recoba · 26/08/2023 21:12

@BCxx it was quite dramatic (not sure I'll ever forget the sheer panic in my husband's voice when he said he could see the head) - the paramedics arrived about five minutes after I gave birth. My waters went at 12pm, husband rang the maternity unit shortly after I said I needed to push (we should have just rung 999, but were both very sleep deprived and a bit shell shocked), baby born 12.15pm, paramedics turned up at 12.20. They checked that everything was okay and stayed with us until the midwife showed up. Then the midwife helped deliver the placenta and my husband cut the cord, but that was about an hour after the birth (walking whilst carrying the baby with the cord still attached was pretty weird!).

BCxx · 26/08/2023 21:44

@Recoba oh I bet.. he probably won’t forget it in a hurry either! What a story to tell growing up though to say your dad delivered you on the bathroom floor!

emlouba · 26/08/2023 22:16

I'm due Monday 🥰 I've felt so so sick all last night and today, gone off dinners... slight cramps but nothing else! Been on ball tonight a lot! Praying I'm not going to be overdue 🙏🏼

Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies 🤍

overwork · 27/08/2023 22:31

Oh wow @Recoba - you must win for best delivery story so far that's extraordinary. What a women (and husband!).
And @HRSC it's lovely to hear such a great induction story, hope you're enjoying your precious time with your little one this weekend.
Hope things are going well for you @chickpea1982, can't be much longer to go now!

HRSC · 29/08/2023 09:36

Thank you everyone! She is just delicious, I can’t get enough of her! We got home from the hospital last night (it’s protocol here to stay for the first 48hrs of the baby’s life) was slightly terrified and emotional leaving the safety of the hospital with all the nurses and midwives but we’ve managed to survive the night!

Have been having some trouble with breastfeeding. Her latch is getting better and initially was preferring the right breast. Now she’s preferring the left and feeding for 20 mins on that side but only up to 10mins on the right side. I have been starting with the right side and then moving to the left when she comes off, and then when she’s finished on left, offering her the right again but she’s not really been interested. Is this normal? They said at the hospital that she should feed for 20mins on each side so she’s 10mins off. Worried that she’s not getting enough. My milk hasn’t come in yet but have lots of colostrum.

Marmaladebear · 30/08/2023 04:58

Hi @hrsc was long as she's regaining her birth weight and then gaining more weight it's totally fine. I was told to only count a minimum of 15 mins on a breast as a feed which was fine for my eldest who was a sleepy baby and he took absolutely ages to feed. For my little girl she feeds really efficiently and feeds 5-15 mins on a breast - she can feed super frequently in the day though which I think makes up for it. Little and often feeds make your body produce more milk so you're likely producing lots! You're doing amazing xx

sommeliermama · 30/08/2023 10:25

Oh wow @Recoba what a birth story!! How brave of you to get through all that without the help of midwives or medics. Many congrats on the safe birth of your baby ❤

@HRSC congratulations! So glad to hear induction went well and you are now home safe with your little one ❤

I'm now 41+5 today with no sign of baby and 2 attempted sweeps where my cervix was 0cm, so I'm being induced today. Induction suite at the hospital is full so I'm going in as an outpatient and being sent home after I get the pessary, which I'm happy enough with as I'll probably be more comfortable here. I'm mentally preparing for a marathon rather than a sprint, but who knows. Just can't wait for my little girl to come out! Honestly without the induction I feel like she would try stay in there for another week - I've still not had any signs of labour at all!

BCxx · 30/08/2023 14:11

@sommeliermama oh wow what a long wait for you.. you’ll be so glad when it’s over. Hopefully the pessary does something for you and you don’t have much longer to go 🤞🏻

sommeliermama · 31/08/2023 09:41

Thanks @BCxx I don't think the pessary has worked, still not feeling anything! Going back into the hospital this afternoon where they'll probably keep me in this time. At this rate they'll need a stick of dynamite to get the baby out! 😭

BCxx · 31/08/2023 12:57

@sommeliermama aww bless you 😩 you must be so fed up now. Will you go on the drip now do you think?

sommeliermama · 31/08/2023 17:17

@BCxx they are going to try me on the 6hr pessaries now and reassess in the morning - if those haven't worked the doctors will take over and discuss further options including C section which I wanted to avoid! But if they work then they'll be able to break my waters and put me on the drip. Can't go on the drip yet cause I'm 0cm still 😥such a slow process!!

Funny cause my family have travelled over from Ireland and London for the next couple of days, thinking baby would be maybe two weeks old by now 😂and they might not even meet her. You just can't make any plans!

She might be getting more quicker from the right and that’s why she spends less time on it. It’s probably better to alternate the starting side each time.

emlouba · 31/08/2023 20:40

I had my baby on due date 🩵 Monday the 28th! I had a beautiful baby boy xx

Daisy155 · 31/08/2023 23:29

Hi all I have been exhausted 😩 Baby Ayla arrived on the 23rd of August! It was a successful c section no complications and baby is so beautiful I can’t stop staring!

However we have been in the hospital since but finally at home today! She also has reflux we have not slept but seriously feeling so relieved this ended better than last year!

sommeliermama · 02/09/2023 14:37

@emlouba and @Daisy155 many congratulations to you both! ❤

My little girl finally arrived on 31st August, after the first stage of my induction failed, the doctors weren't happy with the CTG trace and rushed me into theatre for an emergency C section. Wasn't at all what I had planned but she arrived safe and sound weighing 9 pounds 2 ounces. Never felt happiness and love like this before!

BCxx · 02/09/2023 15:30

@sommeliermama aww lovely 😊 huge congratulations!

BCxx · 02/09/2023 15:31

@Daisy155 amazing, so glad she has arrived safe 😊 congratulations

DesertSnow · 02/09/2023 20:36

Hi all, congratulations to everyone who's had their babies! I'm sorry I haven't been able to keep up at all, I've been really struggling with anxiety and not being able to sleep (I don't mean normal new parent sleep deprivation, I can't sleep even when I have the opportunity and now am only getting a few hours with sleeping pills). Trying to tackle it with CBT, hypnotherapy and anti-depressants but there's obviously no quick fix.

Would somebody else be able to set up a new thread? We're nearly full on this one and I'm afraid I don't have it in me.

Hope everyone is ok.

@DesertSnow I am so sorry to hear you are going through this at the moment I really hope you find a way through this difficult time!

it’s not easy and I feel I haven’t slept but yours sounds more tbh and I hope the health professionals can assist you through this sending you a massive virtual hug your way!!

Paintandpots · 04/09/2023 16:54

Congratulations to all the mummies. Hope there is some help to hand for you all in whatever form it may take. Remmeber to take some time for yourself to be you again too. Hope all babies are putting on weight and that the laundry pile isn't getting out of control like it is for us.

@DesertSnow hope it gets a bit better and that you find something that helps you cope with the sleeplessness.

DesertSnow · 05/09/2023 14:40

Thanks @Daisy155 and @Paintandpots. Trying to get through one day at a time (as I expect we all are with our different challenges).

@DesertSnow sorry your are having such a hard time, I hope things start to get easier and more manageable for you. Feels like the thread is coming to an end (although I could be wrong!) so wanted to say thank you to you and Annie Apple for putting it together these last few months. It's been an enormous source of support for me and I know others found it helpful too. Best of luck everyone with everything that lies ahead. I'm on the Facebook group but tbh I'm not that active on it but hope to see some of you on there too ❤️💕

DesertSnow · 08/09/2023 12:57

@Marmaladebear Yes, I think the FB and Whatsapp group are active, but feels like this thread is not so much anymore. But it's been great. Hope everyone is doing ok and enjoying this time. I'm struggling but tryig to take one day at a time as that really is all we can do.
