Has anyone experienced carpel tunnel? I’ve been getting pins and needles in my right hand and increasing pain in my wrist. It’s getting too painful to move it 😔 I’m going to see if I can get a wrist support but if anyone has any tips of how to manage I’d be grateful!

BCxx · 14/08/2023 10:42

How is everyone today? Anyone else expecting baby to arrive this week? 👶🏼

Cant believe it’s finally this week @MinnieFirstTimeMum 🎉 Really wishing the next few days away just so I can get to the date before labour.

Have managed to somehow collect 15 syringes of colostrum! I’m now a bit too scared to keep going in case it causes anything to start though but I think I’m happy with that and can express more after baby is out safely 😅

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 14/08/2023 11:08

@HRSC sorry I don't have any experience of carpel tunnel. Has your MW been able to advise anything?

@BCxx I know, it feels like it has flown by. So good on the colostrum. I think I have about 25 didn't ramp up from Friday like I thought I would. I am going to carry on I think and then I am going to take a couple of empty syringes with me to do whilst I am in the hospital.

Have you had your pre-op yet? Mine is on Wednesday morning x

BCxx · 14/08/2023 11:23

@MinnieFirstTimeMum wow that’s amazing! I will probably be too tempted not to keep going and yesterday I managed to get 2 syringes out in very little time but I was getting on and off pains last night (I think just from baby moving but it scared me a bit). Going to take syringes in with me and some of the sterile cups sealed I think as it’s been quicker to do. I phoned this morning about the pre-op as I hadn’t heard anything but it’s on Wednesday also 😊

Checked and double checked the bags last night so I think I’m ready to go!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 14/08/2023 11:26

@BCxx I am currently scrubbing my skirting boards, and stripping all the beds down 🤦🏻‍♀️ but once these are done my plan is also to be double checking all the hospital beds haha

I think it has felt so far away, but now it is only a matter of days away it suddenly feels very real!

BCxx · 14/08/2023 13:07

@MinnieFirstTimeMum haha Im changing all the beds tomorrow (don’t know why when a baby is just coming to be sick on ours 😂)! I really don’t think I have processed it at all but I will just be so relieved to make it to the morning and walk in there!

sommeliermama · 14/08/2023 13:32

Yes my baby is due on Friday! Not feeling any different to how I felt a week ago though, so I'm convinced this baby will be late. Having the odd period-like cramp but not every day. Just hoping she doesn't take TOO long 🙄i would love to avoid induction

Colostrum is finally going well though, I have 29ml in the freezer now. Crazy how I can get 5-10ml a day when I was only getting 0.5ml a day at the start. I've really enjoyed having it as my little project these last couple of weeks.

Good luck everyone who is also due this week!! Feels like there's not that many of us left to go

HRSC · 14/08/2023 16:41

Thanks @MinnieFirstTimeMum, I am seeing my doctor on Wednesday so will
mention it then. Seems to be much worse at night (yay more reasons for insomnia😅)

Amazing on the colostrum collecting @BCxx ! My attempts so far have been pathetic - only a few drops per day! 😩 what is your secret?!

Due next Saturday but have an induction booked for next Friday. Would like to go into labour naturally but also finding it reassuring to have a date. Getting very restless now!

BCxx · 14/08/2023 19:10

@sommeliermama thats great! It is genuinely fun to do, quite satisfying 😂 Hopefully you don’t have too long to wait. I have so much sympathy for anyone waiting til an unknown date after how impatient I am just to get through this week!

@HRSC i only got a few drops with last baby and stored some of it in a syringe then binned it because it wasn’t worth taking a tiny bit of a syringe into hospital! I’m not sure what I’ve actually done differently this time but it does seem to be a good bit easier and definitely increases as the days go. At the start I was probably doing about half an hour on each side and would barley be filling a syringe in total. It was so time consuming. Now as long as I’ve had a shower or bath and im warm then it only takes a few minutes to get something to start coming. I’ve been getting way more using the sterile cups and just using the syringe at the end to take it out the cup. It means you can actually keep your hand at a bit that it’s working and get more than a single drop out before having to find another bit 🤦🏻‍♀️ It can be hit or miss though and the fact it didn’t work at all for me last time makes me think it probably is just your luck whether it’s going to work or not

sommeliermama · 14/08/2023 19:34

@BCxx thank you! I've been patiently waiting quite well until today but now I'm really over it and am praying baby comes in the next few days 😫I've had enough!

Sounds like you're doing great with the colostrum..it is quite satisfying!!

LS888 · 14/08/2023 22:15

My beautiful baby girl arrived on 9th August at 00:26 - Fern Rose, 7lbs 8oz 🩷- waters went in the night, meconium present in waters so couldn’t have the water birth I originally wanted, due to strep b had to be induced, the gel pessary didn’t do anything so after 6 hours had the drip, unknowingly to me got to 9.5cm on gas and air alone. Had requested an epidural but the first attempt didn’t work no pain relief at all and by the time I had the top up and they did a cervical check I was already 9.5cm. Had an hour of passive labour before pushing. All went well and baby was born at 00:26. Unfortunately my placenta and cord weren’t playing ball - my cord snapped and had to taken to theatre for my placenta to be removed. Lost quite a bit of blood (around 1.4 litres) and ended up having an iron transfusion due to low iron that didn’t pick back up after birth. Stayed in hospital for 3 nights in total but am home now.

It wasn’t the birth I planned for but wouldn’t change a thing and our gorgeous girl is settling in well at home 🩷.

Paintandpots · 15/08/2023 02:01

Congratulations @LS888 . Hope your enjoying being back at home after a tricky (understatement i know) birth.
I'm sure you and baby Fern are enjoying cuddles, kisses and all the lovely things of babyhood.

Baby boy and toddler boy are doing really well. Baby boy has put on most of the weight he lost after birth and is filling out beautifully, he is so frigging cute.

Toddler boy has been missing my attention for just under a week whilst i recover and get used to new baby. We'll be had been getting mostly attention and playtime with his grandparents/ my parents which he had been loving.

But last 2 days I've been able to play with him, eat with him, and all the usual things. Admittedly i get tired around 5pm and need to slow down a lot then but i think he kind of notices and chills out then too, happy to sit and watch tv with me or potter about.
My mum and dad have been amazing, we are staying with them this month until i fully recover.
Other half couldn't get the time off work for 2 weeks to look after us so this was the next best scenario.

How is everyone else doing with their newborns?

Paintandpots · 15/08/2023 02:38

@sommeliermama hope you haven't long to wait. But use the time that you have now to pack a nice treat for yourself on your hospital bag for after giving birth. I totally forgot to do that.

@BCxx do you store what you've collected in the fridge or does it go in the freezer? I assume freezer?

BCxx · 15/08/2023 03:48

@Paintandpots yeah freezer, I just put them all in a zip lock bag for that day and stick a sticker on it with my details and the date

BCxx · 15/08/2023 03:51

Congratulations @LS888 what a beautiful name 😍 hope you’re feeling okay now.. the same thing happened to my friend as it was a quicker birth than they’d expected and somehow the cord snapped. Must have been really scary!

DesertSnow · 16/08/2023 13:15

@cococat88 Desperately sorry to hear your news. Sending love xx

@CityKity ah I missed your announcement, congratulations on the safe arrival f baby boy!

@BMK that sounds like quite the ordeal, but glad baby is here safely. Congratulations! Also what a beautiful post for Annie Apple, I think it's what we're all feeling.

@Paintandpots Congratulations! Our little ones share a birthday.

@Daisy155 Yep I was being monitored but they underestimated how small the placenta was and how quickly it deteriorated. She was also smaller than expected even though they said all along they expected her to be little. But trying not to focus on that now as she's healthy and safely here.

@DomesticElf ah, thanks for sharing about your son's positional talipes! Great to know it's improving with the exercises, hopefully will be the same for us.

Good luck to those expecting their little ones this week @BCxx and @MinnieFirstTimeMum and @sommeliermama!

@LS888 Congratulations! Beautiful name. Sorry your birth didn't go to plan but glad she's here safe.

I feel like I may have missed other birth announcements so congrats to any I've missed!

Thank you @DesertSnow 💕

DesertSnow · 16/08/2023 13:19

I've been awol as I've been really struggling. I've barely slept since the birth and have developed extreme anxiety in relation to sleeping. It's not baby keeping me up crying, it's not being able to switch off despite trying pretty much everything. I'm getting none at night and managing to get around an hour in the day, if that. Yesterday I ended up in A&E for eight hours as I hadn't slept at all in 48. They gave me a sleeping pill for last night which is meant to knock you out for 8 hours, I got maybe 3 hours of interrupted sleep but better than before. Am also seeking CBT. It does mean I can't exclusively BF though, which breaks my heart as it's something I really want to do.

I feel very scared, anxious and lonely, but Luna continues to be incredible.

Sending to all x

BCxx · 16/08/2023 13:33

@DesertSnow aw bless you, is it the anxiety of checking if she’s breathing etc that’s keeping you up do you think or more just still a bit traumatised from everything that’s happened? You sound like you’re doing the absolute best you can so try not to beat yourself up about the breastfeeding, it’s amazing you’re doing it at all! 🤩

I suffered with horrendous anxiety (non-pregnancy related) before I was pregnant and my heart really goes out to anyone suffering with it now. It’s hard enough to get out of that cycle when you’re perfectly well rested, have time for things like therapy and you’re able to take all the medications you need, so must be 10 times harder to get through while dealing with a newborn. I think it’s hard to even explain sometimes just how bad it can be. Hopefully you’ll be able to get some help with it and be able to gradually build up your sleep a bit more. It sounds really hard, sending a big hug

Daisy155 · 16/08/2023 16:07

Thank you all for your kind words from my previous post! @LS888 congratulations on the baby sorry as well it didn’t go as planned but glad that you are both safe and sound!

@DesertSnow sorry to hear about the sleeping issues, what do you think is causing this at the moment? I really hope you get some sleep soon when you can, I can’t imagine not being able to sleep this must be extremely difficult.

I am now in the hospital until baby arrives next week on Friday! Baby is doing well but her movements have changed significantly so we just need to keep an eye on her!

I have scans almost daily now especially from tomorrow! I wish I had just chosen the 18th to give birth but it’s fine it’s too late now! I had been encouraged to go above 36 weeks and have c section at 37 weeks!

But I am really hopeful and positive everything is going to go well!!

Rowanandremy · 16/08/2023 17:46

@DesertSnow congratulations and what a beautiful name! So sorry it was a traumatic experience for you and that now you aren’t sleeping - my wife was the same after our dd was born, no matter what she tried she just couldn’t switch off even when dd was sleeping nicely. It’s incredibly hard and when you are also processing a birth that didn’t go according to plan and having a baby to actually look after - it can be a lot so please try to be gentle with yourself, do whatever works best for you and hopefully soon you will get some decent sleep. Do you have family/friends around for support? I know with dd we felt lonely after having her and quite isolated which seemed to heighten any negative emotions like anxiety, this time around we are closer to family and have had far more support and visits that have helped break up the weeks.

@LS888 congratulations! My goodness you had an experience, so glad everything is alright with you and baby Fern and that you are home and settled.

@Paintandpots so glad things are going well with your toddler and baby boy. It can be such a worry when you are trying to recover but sounds as though your parents are being amazing. My dd thrives off her grandparents attention, so much so she didn’t want to come home from my mums after I gave birth 😂

Sorry if I’ve missed anyone, I’ve not been on here much the last little while. Ds has colic and while it’s not horrific it’s challenging enough once evening comes to get him settled. Dd is an amazing big sister and has really taken to it and to ds, there’s been some adjustments for her with us splitting our attentions between them both but she’s coping beautifully. Not long until she’s in full time school so we’re trying to make the most of it while we can. Ds is thriving but we did have to change his formula over to another one, he was putting weight on with the original one but he was in some bowel discomfort that just wasn’t going away, he’s a lot better now. His hair is still so floofy! Especially after a bath, he has more hair than his cousin who is 6 months older than him 😂

airmaxJ · 16/08/2023 18:19

@DesertSnow I got the angel care baby monitor with the breathing sensor pad , my anxiety relief is down to this - knowing I can switch off when she's asleep on it . I highly recommend it . Congratulations on your new baby x

BCxx · 16/08/2023 22:03

@Daisy155 aww that sounds hard going! Definitely sounds like the right choice to hang off another week if it’s safe for them to do so though. Will maybe just save you any time on the other side having to deal with NICU etc if she’s ready for the world! Hope you’ve got lots of books and episodes of some good programmes to watch!

BCxx · 16/08/2023 22:04

@MinnieFirstTimeMum good luck!! We’ve got this 😬😬😬🎉

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 16/08/2023 22:08

@BCxx all the best to you too 💕 we got here without them coming early too 👏🏻

Looking forward to hearing your news tomorrow x
