@JT2021 aw that’s a shame he’s kind of ruined the surprise for you! I think especially since we’ve found out the sex and told everyone that, the name is the only other thing people don’t know so I want that to be some sort of surprise

sommeliermama · 04/04/2023 16:05

Congrats everyone on their 20 week scans the past few days! Mine was yesterday and it went well. Baby was upside down and facing away and kept moving so we didn't get any photos but the sonographer said all was well and we don't need to go back for a re-scan. Big relief to get that one done and out of the way, especially after falling the other night.

Still haven't felt any movements at all! But I have an anterior placenta

ChloeN · 04/04/2023 16:46

@nadsc do you need to do it before 28 weeks if you’re self employed? Xx

nadsc · 04/04/2023 16:58

@ChloeN nope but I want to get my payments pretty close to when I go on Mat leave and it’s 20 working days to find out how much you’ll get 🙄

ChloeN · 04/04/2023 16:59

@nadsc ahh okay! I have no idea about it at all, I just assumed I’d get the full amount I didn’t know they decide?

nadsc · 04/04/2023 17:04

@ChloeN it depends on how much national insurance you’ve paid over the year. I was on Mat leave from Jan to aug last year so I think I owe them some more national insurance. If you haven’t paid enough national insurance, they tell you how much you need to pay and then you’ll get the full amount. It’s just a headache all of it 😂

sally16 · 04/04/2023 18:00

@BMK our friends come on holiday with us with a 2week old 😆 it was totally fine! Can still drink and breastfeed.. it's only when your too drunk to hold your baby safely that you can't, which I doubt many would when away with children 🤣

She missed having a cigarette while away though as midwife told her nicotine does travel through breast milk unlike alcohol strangely!
Only time she smokes is on holiday with a cocktail in the sun 😂

But it was actually a stunning holiday! We did everything we normally would except go clubbing but we were all ready for bed by 10 anyway 🤣 I'd forget we even had the baby with us as a group as she just slept and fed the entire time!

Marmaladebear · 04/04/2023 18:48

@sally16 omg dream! We were in lockdown for our first and I am a bit sad we didn't get to make the most of those months when they're just sleeping and feeding mainly... Oh well, this time round we're planning to go away for a while before baby is walking!

Rowanandremy · 04/04/2023 19:12

Congratulations to everyone who has had a scan, super impressed at team yellow.

@BCxx That's really interesting that you keep being asked about names, I thought it was more of an acceptable thing to ask if you had a name but not what it was - that way it could be volunteered if wanted or kept quiet if not. Mind you, we knew both times what we were calling ours so just told everyone 😂 I wasn't going to do that this time because dw had a wobble just before dd was born and afterwards but fell back in love with it but we've discussed this name until we were nearly pulling our hair out and at this point it's this or nothing 😂

@BMK I've definitely got a heavier abdomen and keep bumping into things, luckily lightly but I'm not used to it yet. Also having to remember to wear my seat belt differently. I feel like this time my bump is bigger, dw doesn't think so but says he's laying differently to what dd did. I wouldn't say I'm getting pain but I'm more uncomfortable than I was even a few weeks ago, the only time I really get pain is if baby jabs me sharply or if the ligaments pull when I try to stand up.

@Spiralout I feel you on the low chairs thing, we have a Poang chair for dd's room and I needed help getting out of it yesterday 😂

We've slowly been buying some bits and organizing them, it sometimes feels a bit surreal being pregnant again so it's helping make it feel real. We've got the pram, already had a crib from dd that'll be for downstairs and today we've paid for the cot.

jollydollyirl · 04/04/2023 20:23

@sally16 Due Aug 17th and have already been looking up off season hols! Would love to get away in October maybe but don't know if I'm crazy!

What's the earliest people have flown with a newborn? 🤣

BusyBushBaby · 04/04/2023 20:41

@jollydollyirl I'm thinking of doing similar but going to wait and see what kind of shape we're in after the birth before booking anything. I think about 3 months old would be the ideal time to travel with a baby.

Marmaladebear · 04/04/2023 22:26

@BusyBushBaby yeah I agree, 3 months is when you're likely in more of a rhythm and they understand day and night a bit more, before they're weaned onto food and the 4 month sleep regression. Before then you're recovering from birth and maybe still learning how to breastfeed and if you do breastfeed cluster feeding tends to happen at 4 and 6 weeks (not to say you can't go away when baby is tiny just that there are challenges)

overwork · 05/04/2023 07:49

We're also thinking of doing the same end of Sept / early Oct. My parents will come too (they'll be a big help) and they can get to know the baby better (we live a few hours apart). I'm looking forward to it and we'll just have to manage whatever baby is like at that point.

sally16 · 05/04/2023 17:55

I wanted to go away October but I was bleeding for 10 weeks last time :( so I don't wanna go away pp bleeding :(

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 05/04/2023 18:28

I'm the same about wanting to go away later on in the year but not really sure when the best time is x

BusyBushBaby · 05/04/2023 20:51

I'm thinking possibly Greece, mid October. I'm due early August so baby should be about 10 weeks old by then. Not booking anything until baby has arrived though in case there are post birth complications for either/both of us, or if they turn out to have bad reflux/colic/feeding issues etc.

UsernameNotPresent · 05/04/2023 21:47

Lovelies, I need a recommendation. I've got a very important job interview coming up in 6 weeks or so, and I need sharp sleek maternity office wear. I already got a pencil skirt, now I need a sharp looking blouse of some sort and a blazer. So far, everything seems to be very much like wrap dresses, tunics etc. All very comfy but not quite what I need. Anyone who works in an office with a dress code, where do you get your office maternity wear?

I am definitely retaining some water, legs feel so heavy, and the bump feels like I have a bowling ball in my pelvis. Tiredness is back and it's not even 3rd trimester yet.. fun times.

buttercupbee · 05/04/2023 23:22

@UsernameNotPresent I had an interview a few weeks ago and I got some smart maternity trousers and a blouse from boohoo

Spiralout · 06/04/2023 07:52

@UsernameNotPresent
try Seraphine - filter by ‘work edit’ on their site. Good luck for the interview!

Marmaladebear · 06/04/2023 10:51

@UsernameNotPresent I would also second @Spiralout 's recommendation for seraphine - I've got my work clothes this time round from there and I think I'll still be able to wear them at work after maternity leave

Marmaladebear · 06/04/2023 10:57

@UsernameNotPresent also good luck for the interview! And hope yours went well too @buttercupbee xx

P1pk · 06/04/2023 11:17

@UsernameNotPresent try h&m not necessarily mat wear but they have some loose clothes which look smart too!

Amazing to hear about everyone's scans, mine is this afternoon at 2pm. So excited and nervous at the same time!!

Interesting to see everyone's mat leave and holiday plans. As a FTM I was thinking to work until 38weeks but might keep it flexible reading everyone's experiences. For a holiday I was thinking to go in November but wait to book until sept/Oct to see how we are getting on! So exciting to look fwd to all of this!

BCxx · 06/04/2023 11:40

Also the seraphine stuff on vinted is great! I’ve had two pairs of maternity jeans off it and I’ll put them back on after

DesertSnow · 06/04/2023 12:26

Good luck for those with interviews! Would have a look at getting clothing in a bigger size or loose-fitting - think 'maternity' wear can have a price tag attached. So far I've got a pair of maternity jeans and a dress for all the spring/summer weddings.

Good luck with the scan @P1pk!

Bit jealous of those of you planning holidays! DH is about to go to Brazil for a month (seeing family) so he won't have much leave to take unfortunately once baby is here. Hopefully we'll get away next spring as a family of three, and maybe take our postponed honeymoon, but that feels like a very long time away!

Createcomet · 06/04/2023 13:37

Just wanted to send love to @AnnieApple123 in case you see this! Really hope you're doing okay 💛 no pressure to be back here obvs, just wanted to send love and well wishes.
