Had my anatomy re-scan today bc baby was laying awkward last time, baby weighed 10oz at 19+5 and today at 21+1 weighs 15oz, sonographer was giggling and says he's a great eater! 15oz seems so big to me? Almost 1lb, does this weight seem normal and okay? What was your baby's weight around this time? 🥰

Createcomet · 03/04/2023 18:59

I have no idea when I will start mat leave. I'll be very surprised if I don't opt for a section when it comes down to it. Original plan was to just work right up to it, but now thinking that's probably not sensible.

Had our scan today and thankfully all well with the baby and managed to stay team yellow!

Any gender guesses for fun?

unluckyinlife · 03/04/2023 19:18

My scan all went well today. I'm still team yellow officially but fairly sure baby is a girl! The baby was laying at an odd angle so when she put the wand on we instantly got a potty shot with no bits visible 😂

I have to go back next Tuesday as we couldn't get a good view of the baby's heart despite walking and all the tricks. So I'm still not entirely relieved but having it drummed into me that thr baby was high risk for neural tube defects knowing the heart and spine were normal is a relief xx

unluckyinlife · 03/04/2023 19:23

My baby is estimated at 10oz at 19 plus 3!

I have a scan at 20+2 so I'm excited to see how much that will change if at all!

CityKity · 03/04/2023 22:08

Interesting to hear everyone’s Mat leave plans.
I’ve finally told work that I’m pregnant and currently was thinking of working all the way up till due date - is that utterly naive of me as a FTM? My work is hybrid and very flexible, but closer to due date I expect that I’ll be working from home for the last month (July).

Have you ladies got your MatB1 forms yet? HR was surprised that I didn’t have it to hand at 5 months, when should I expect to get this?

allgoodthings84 · 03/04/2023 23:02

@CityKity you will likely get it at your next midwife appointment. It’s usually by 25 weeks. You can request it after 20 weeks scan I think if you need it sooner as I think some work places insist on it 25 weeks latest and some people don’t have a midwife appointment until 28 weeks. I’ve got my next midwife appointment at 24 weeks (not first baby but they don’t do a 16 weeks in person one here) and think I’ll get mine then.

BCxx · 03/04/2023 23:22

@CityKity I get a 22 week appointment and they give you it then so it will be in the next few weeks, whenever your appointment is

sally16 · 04/04/2023 06:04

12 weeks/ 22 shifts until annual leave for mar leave 🥳🥳🥳🥳

sally16 · 04/04/2023 06:07

@CityKity get the form about 22-24 weeks from midwife :)
I planned to work till due date last time and lasted till 31 weeks 🤣 was so uncomfortable and didn't want to work Black Friday sales 😂

CityKity · 04/04/2023 06:57

Thanks for the info! HR seemed surprised I didn’t have it yet, hence the worry. I’m 23w today and my next midwife apt is at 25w2d , I’ll check with my workplace if they need it ahead of week 25.
3 more days till the long weekend can’t come soon enough!

sally16 · 04/04/2023 11:06

@CityKity my friend got her at 20 week scan but she's having twins haha!
My old work asked for it when I told them.. I was like calm down I'm 12 weeks 🤣 some don't get it that you need to wait lol

overwork · 04/04/2023 11:28

The silly thing is it's only a piece of paper signed by a midwife or doctor. You'd think with all the fuss over it triggering mat leave etc it would be something a bit more high tech! We can't sign it as sonographers (or if we can I've not been told that!), so we have to direct patients to their MW if they ask for it at the 20 week scan. My boss has asked for it too but I see the MW at 25+2 weeks so I'll have to get it then.

BCxx · 04/04/2023 13:12

Had my 20 week scan yesterday and all looked good. Definitely still a girl! 😊

It’s made me start to think about baby names. I think I’ve realised that I always thought girls names were easy but in reality I don’t appear to like any 😂 We had two names from last time if he had been a girl but now I’m not even sure I like them! Also why do people keep asking if I have a name chosen yet as if I’m going to say ‘aw yeah, it’s Esmerelda’. My hairdresser was asking and I had to just say we had none at all. She then started asking which names we liked from last time and I had to try to dodge that question. Why do people assume you’re going to tell them? 🙈

BCxx · 04/04/2023 13:19

Also after the bladder chat the other day… I didn’t even drink much before my scan but went to the toilet before leaving the house. Less than half an hour later when we got there I had to go again. We were sitting in the waiting room for about 20/25 minutes and I started to need to go again. I just knew that someone pushing down on my bladder when it was full wasn’t going to be doable so had to go for a third time within the hour! On the way in from the carpark I was taking tiny steps and was so tense, literally thought I was going to wet myself just from panicking about it so much 😳 just hope it doesn’t get worse

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 04/04/2023 14:06

20 week scan today, all looks okay from what they could see. But have to go back because he wouldn't get his head out of bladder no matter what we did so I've got to go back in a couple of weeks to see his face better.

For those who are rhesus negative and have to have the anti-d injection (normally 28 weeks) it wasn't anything scary only side effect I have had seems to be some lethargy x

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 04/04/2023 14:06

My midwife said that I will get my mat1b form at the 25 week scan.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 04/04/2023 14:06

Sorry appointment not scan 🤦🏻‍♀️

BMK · 04/04/2023 14:22

Wow,it's hard to believe that it's reasonable to be thinking about maternity leave and in a not-too-distant time line. I think I'll go from start of July. Not sure what that will be: 36 weeks maybe. I'm trying to figure if it's feasible or realistic to bring a 4 or 6 week old baby on holidays to Italy for 2 weeks; or.would that be no fun...
We would have an Au Pair and my parents there but also our 4 and 3 Yr old boys. Breastfeeding I imagine might be really inconvenient with wine and cigarette consumption, as with timings around them. Maybe pump in morning or etc. Has anyone tried this type of early holiday with newborn and bfeeding?

Also @AnnieApple123 you are constantly in my thoughts and I hope you are OK, as in no bad news and you're coping ok etc. Sending love.

@BCxx I agree re girl names: when having boys it seemed that there were endless lovely girls' names but when it comes to it it's much harder. I do have 1 however that I had had in my head for almost 2 years,my OH doesn't really like it and I'll probably go around the houses with each other name there is and come back to it.
Have you managed to get out of work generally now until your mat leave kicks in or do you have to go back before it?
Everyone else v happy that your scans were all.good. Super impressed by team yellow, I would rather know though I think. If I already had one(or more) of each I might be able to wait for the surprise but not otherwise!
Has anyone else developed pain in abdomen and a heavier abdomen - that's a bit more limiting and feels fuller- than usual?*I'm 22.5 wks

nadsc · 04/04/2023 14:35

I’m self employed and I couldn’t wait until my 28 week appointment for my Matb1 form so I got in touch with my gp for them to do a letter…£25!!!!! I plan on applying for my maternity allowance at the end of the month. Watch HMRC say they want the matb form instead 🙄. I’m going on Mat leave at 33 weeks, early I know but I don’t think I could carry on doing my job for much longer after that 😂

Spiralout · 04/04/2023 14:42

@BCxx completely agree with names! I’ve had a few family members be stroppy when we won’t tell them our name as well. What is that all about?!

@BMK totally with you on the heavier abdomen. Starting to feel pregnant getting out of bed and out of low chairs. Also bumping it into the kitchen work surface when I’m cooking etc!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 04/04/2023 14:51

@Spiralout we have had the same with family not understanding why we would want to keep the name a secret 🙄

marleyandme · 04/04/2023 15:45

@AnnieApple123 hoping you're doing OK x

@MinnieFirstTimeMum maybe I've been blunt with my family and colleagues when they've asked me about names but I've just been honest and said yes we've got a shortlist (staying team yellow so can't decide before anyway!) but that I'm not discussing it with anyone except DH as I don't want to be struggling for names if I say one and it gets a bad reaction!

I've just collected my MATB1 from my midwife, I messaged her after my scan to ask for it as she said I could. My work wants a copy before they'll formalise my mat leave but they also say it needs to be sorted by 25 weeks which is when I'd normally have my next midwife appointment so that would give me no time to sort it out! My partner's work have also asked for it too. I'm taking mat leave from 1st August when I'll be 39 weeks but I've got 4 weeks annual leave that I'm taking in July so effectively finishing at the end of June - can't wait!

BCxx · 04/04/2023 15:46

@BMK its the same with girls clothes, I always thought they were way easier to buy for but when I looked in a shop the other day the boys stuff was actually less kind of tacky looking 🙈 I think overall there is a better selection for girls though. I had a doctor’s appointment today and I’m signed off until the start of May so I think il just need one more extension after that to avoid having to go back in (other than for meetings). Won’t be going back after anyway, would have quit months ago if I hadn’t been pregnant

JT2021 · 04/04/2023 15:46

Hi all - great to hear everyone having their 20 week scans now! My dr surgery have lost my matb1 form that the midwife left them whilst I was on holiday so have to wait for another one… honestly every time I’ve needed something from the surgery it always gets lost 🙄

Talking of names - I’ve found boys names really hard, the ones I like all my friends picked first! For girls it was super easy for us and we had several choices. Anyway for our boy there’s a couple we agree on and could use as first and middle names, although not agreed on the final choice or order.

Well I thought we hadn’t agreed for definite… til I find out DH has gone and told his parents what the baby’s first and middle name is definitely going to be. Not best pleased as they’ve been bugging us for a name since we told them at the start and now I feel like it’s been decided for me when we hadn’t agreed for definite?! Bit annoyed as it’s put me in 2 minds about the names, which is tough as I don’t like many other boys names…

BCxx · 04/04/2023 15:48

@Spiralout its so weird.. I have literally never been told someone’s name prior to them having the baby so I don’t get why anyone would think I was going to tell them. I’ve only ever asked one person about names, it was just before their due date and my question started with ‘don’t tell me what your names are… but have you got one picked?’
The in-laws ask every time we see them and I don’t think they’ve quite got the fact that I won’t be telling them so I’m just saying ‘oh I don’t know’ every time!
