Thanks for setting up the new thread @AnnieApple123 😊

@Gizzyanne how lovely! Was that at your midwife appointment?

Miraclesdohappen88 · 22/02/2023 14:16

Hi this will be my 4th child and I'm starting to feel Braxton hicks tightening feelings , I can't remember feeling them so early but I'm sure that's what it is . Is anyone else experiencing the tightening sensations?

Spiralout · 22/02/2023 18:49

New to Mumsnet and this thread! I’m due 4 August.
Hope everyone is doing well!

BCxx · 22/02/2023 18:56

I’m literally just a bottomless pit at this point! Since I’ve been working from home I’ve noticed, especially in the morning, I will be up looking in the cupboard and fridge constantly. I’m already allowing myself cereal and later toast or a bagel for breakfast but I just cannot stop eating and at times I do feel genuinely starving when I shouldn’t be 🙈 I don’t mind getting a bump but I hate that I’m just piling on weight!

I’ve found a bowl of Greek yoghurt and berries fills me up more than toast or cereal and getting the baby some fruit as well. Might be worth a go?

But I do know the feeling - we meal plan for a week ahead and there’s been a few evenings I’ve come back from work and announced a change of plan and going out for steak or pizza!

Rowanandremy · 22/02/2023 19:12

Welcome @Spiralout

Has anyone else felt baby move yet? And if so is it often? I’ve felt him move everyday since last Friday and have tentatively worked out when he’s most active but I don’t remember it being this early with dd. I felt them move around 15 1/2 weeks but I took a lot longer to get her ‘routine’ figured out.

I had to go out today and buy a flattish decorate cushion to sleep with, I can’t get comfortable at all and the pregnancy pillow I got is absolutely useless. At this point I’m desperate for sleep 😂

ChloeN · 22/02/2023 19:19

@Rowanandremy I feel like I have but it’s only once or twice a day, it’s my first though so I’m really not sure if it is 🤣🤣

Any of you ladies who have been pregnant before, if you had a 4d scan when did you go?? I like to have things to look forward too so was thinking of when to book one🤣

Rowanandremy · 22/02/2023 19:39

@ChloeN I guess I was a bit startled because it feels early to have a routine pinned down at 16 weeks 😂 but I vaguely remember reading that it can be earlier with a second.

I had a 4d scan at 28 weeks which was really nice, I think without that we would have felt like it was a long time to wait from the 20 week scan until she was born and we could finally see her properly.

Was anyone else a bit freaked out at the thought of 4d scans but then actually enjoyed it? I only really went along with it for dw because she really wanted one, the thought used to really freak me out but now I’m the one really looking forward to it this time 😂

PumpkinEverything · 22/02/2023 19:47

@ChloeN i had mine at 29+4 last time! I’m hopefully having one again this pregnancy too. The calendar isn’t open yet for the place we’ll go though so I haven’t been able to book 😂😂

BMK · 22/02/2023 19:56

Ha: I have already had two children and never had a private scan and the earliest scan with either was 16wks and avoided them if possible thereafter as it was like virtual reality/a bit odd and they all seemed the same to me! I had a private with this one as I was so sick I thought it was ectopic. I have never even heard of 4d! I feel a bit different toward scans this time but likely as I'm being a bit sentimental with this pregnancy as it will likely be my last. I made my way through my last pregnancies pretending they weren’t happening and getting on with everything else instead (*I wasn't sick and was able to continue as normal, save for size and tiredness)

ChloeN · 22/02/2023 19:58

@Rowanandremy Im sure I’ve read the same, and I guess you know what it feels like so you’re more on the look out second time round!

@PumpkinEverything was your placenta front or back?? I’m thinking I’ll need to go earlish because it’s at the front?

Mulner88 · 22/02/2023 20:00

@ChloeN oooh I might book one too actually for 28-30 weeks ish. Can't imagine having my 20 week scan and then nothing after!! 😮😆

BCxx · 22/02/2023 20:06

@Spiralout you sound way more organised than me! 😂 I think I just need to try and switch back to healthy eating and I will drop the habit but I’ve just become so reliant on eating everything so I don’t feel sick and now struggling to stop 🙈

BCxx · 22/02/2023 20:11

@ChloeN @Mulner88 you might find you do have scans after 20 weeks.. I fully planned to pay for at least one private one after then but I think I ended up with another four scans! One for a second go at checking the heart due to baby’s position, two for a low placenta and one after I measured too small at 28 weeks midwife appointment.

I didn’t do the 4D thing and I think it’s offered at the end of our 16 week one we’re going for but I said no the last time 🙈 as I found out the gender, had a name chosen (and printed on things) and was having a planned section I felt like what their face looked like should be the one thing I left until the day 😂 I think I was also a big scared of the reality of actually seeing a baby in there.. although I know that’s exactly what a scan is too but it just seems more real!

Rowanandremy · 22/02/2023 20:24

@ChloeN I think there’s definitely some truth there, I wasn’t sure if it’d feel the same or not. I was a bit more aware this time, ultimately it’s felt completely different though still magical of course!

We were a bit eager to know what dd looked like but part of that is because we had no clue what the donor looked like. Turns out she looks more like me which everyone said with the 4d scan pictures but I was looking at them like ‘huh? What do you mean?’ I couldn’t see it at all 😂

Marmaladebear · 22/02/2023 20:33

Welcome @Spiralout !

@ChloeN they threw a 4d scan in for free when I had my 11 week private scan (my NHS one was at 13 weeks). I was surprised how clear it was - so was the sonographer who said they'd had 4d ones at 20 weeks that weren't as clear... Maybe if I'd extra for it I wouldn't have been as happy I don't know 😅

Spiralout · 22/02/2023 20:36

Thank you @Rowanandremy and @Marmaladebear

I did a private scan at 9 weeks for reassurance (follow a MMC last summer) and will def be booking a 4d at around 30 weeks after seeing the sample videos. I would get so impatient with nothing between 20 weeks and 40 weeks!!

overwork · 22/02/2023 20:57

Everyone gets a 36 week NHS scan at my Trust. Which is interesting as I work at one down the road and we don't offer it.

I'm having a private scan for my anomaly in a couple of weeks (which wasn't my original plan) and they've done a few 4D pics the previous times I've been. I find them a bit weird looking (or perhaps that's just my child Grin), I think I prefer looking at the 2D ones!

Gizzyanne · 22/02/2023 21:08

@buttercupbee yes In my 15 week appointment with the midwife. Still waiting on my 20wk scan date but no midwife now till 26 weeks which seems ages away!
every appointment makes it all seem so much more real! Not sure if all midwives give the heartbeat option in the appointments, hope you get to hear yours too xx

AnnieApple123 · 22/02/2023 21:15

@ChloeN I did a baby first aid course last time too. Sounds like a good move. I could do with a refresher actually as I think I’d struggle to remember the details now…

I’ve become quite phobic of scans now though so am definitely not planning any extra ones unless necessary. I’m already procrastinating on booking my 20 week one.

ChloeN · 22/02/2023 21:20

@Rowanandremy I kind of think all babies look the same on the 4D ones but I’d like one anyway🤣 sorry if you’ve already said but does this baby have the same donor as your daughter?

@Marmaladebear they did that for me at my 10 week one it was so funny that early 🤣🤣

@AnnieApple123 Im quite looking forward to it actually, I feel like it’ll help my anxiety knowing if the worst was to happen I would have at least a bit of an idea what to do! I’ve got another scan this week and im trying to avoid thinking about it 🤣

@overwork I saw that somewhere that lots of places do 36 week now! I don’t think where I live do 🙄

AnnieApple123 · 22/02/2023 21:28

@ChloeN So glad you’re feeling more positive. I only had the standard 12 and 20 week scans in my first pregnancy but this seems fairly unusual now.

OP posts:
ChloeN · 22/02/2023 21:32

@AnnieApple123 doesnt it, I feel like you might be one of the only ones who don’t have the extras🙈 my mum always says why can’t you just wait especially when I get so worked up beforehand!
