How's everyone getting on?

Beth262 · 01/10/2022 17:57

Up and down over here. Sleep not fantastic and he's very much a velcro baby but went swimming for the first time today and he loved it. Had our first proper smile this week too which was lovely 😊

How are you doing @Isonthecase ? x

It's been a week. The jabs really knocked her for six and reflux really kicked in this week as well. Infant gaviscon is calming things down. Yesterday evening was hard. But today has been much better and if I manage to stay in bed all night and get more than 3 hours sleep I will consider it a success.

@Beth262 the smiles make it all worth it! How's everything with the tongue tie now?

@Isonthecase hope all is good with you.

mamaof2girls · 01/10/2022 20:18

anyone else had this problem. Wee one 5 weeks and all a sudden for the last 2 days anytime I put him in his next to me or Moses basket or that after him falling asleep he wakes up instantly screaming the place down! X

Beth262 · 01/10/2022 20:46

@PopGoesBang Sorry to hear you're having a tough time with reflux. Everything crossed for a better night's sleep for you tonight 🤞 How are you getting on with the school runs? Have you settled into a routine?

Even though he is 8 weeks today (where has the time gone?! 🤯) jabs for us aren't for another 2 weeks due to no clinic. Not looking forward to the fall out though! He's velcro enough as it is.

The tongue tie all seems under control thank you. We're getting there with re-learning breastfeeding but he seems to be choking less which I'll take.

Tried to have our newborn photoshoot yesterday after rearranging several times... if we have 1 good picture it'll be a miracle! He screamed as soon as I tried to put him down for a shot he'd scream 🤦‍♀️ and DS1 would just not cooperate at all for the sibling pictures. Oh well!

We're off to Somerset for a few days next week. Looking forward to a break (and a glass of wine in the hot tub at our lodge 😊)

@mamaof2girls yep, went through this from about week 6. Seem to be coming out the other side now (I hope!). Put it down to a growth spurt/teething /wind. Upright sleeping seemed the only way he felt comfortable x

mamaof2girls · 01/10/2022 20:53

@Beth262 yeah this is the same with him he sleeps peacefully on my chest or in my arms but soon as I put him down he thrashes around and wakes up crying but settles back to sleep soon as he's in my arms! X

PopGoesBang · 01/10/2022 21:00

@Beth262 we've done ok with school runs, we had one morning where she hated the world and was not happy but out of all of them I can take that.

You might be surprised with the photos - editing can do wonders! I hope you have some that make memories even if they aren't traditionally picture perfect.
Glad things are going well with the tongue tie now, the small wins all add up!

Somerset is just over the boarder from me - hope you have a wonderful time. Different scenery and a hot tub lush! Are you taking the dog as well? I love a good autumnal walk.

@mamaof2girls yep! She loved the Moses basket at one point and then hated it with a passion, we seem to be edging towards tolerance currently. Have you got a baby carrier/sling/wrap? This offers some relief to the needing to be upright and gives you a bit of freedom too. Hopefully means he'll sleep and you can still mum to the girls and aren't trapped (unless you want to be!!)

mamaof2girls · 01/10/2022 21:10

@PopGoesBang yeah I have a carrier he loves being in that tbh and will sleep the full time in that not used it around the house though only used when out. Yeah still being able to parent the girls. But it's defo hard when all 3 want to be on top off you. They are still like dotting on him and want to be next to him and touching him whenever he's out off the Moses basket or that! Witch can be also hard as feel like am constantly like aww shh he's going back to sleep don't touch him the now etc as he's still so wee and does have awake times but not always long awake times! X

PopGoesBang · 01/10/2022 21:18

@mamaof2girls I'd be tempted to use it a bit in the house too, especially if you have other mum duties to attend to!
The girls sound adorable but it can be a bit much when you have to keep 'diverting' attention! I still find this and my mines 9 🤣 also she always comes up with needing something just as I'm nappy changing/trying to console the inconsolable baby.
Fingers crossed you get back to the Moses basket being favourable once again.

mamaof2girls · 01/10/2022 21:33

@PopGoesBang yeah I defo think I will need to. Just don't want him depending on my to sleep as specially if it carry's on at night am not to comfortable with cot sleeping. Aww yeah tell me about it. My 2 year old always decides to have a little tantrum just as I settle him 90% off the time then he wakes up again 😂 yeah always when busy doing something else someone else wants something 😂😂 x

Beth262 · 01/10/2022 21:50

@mamaof2girls it's so hard isn't it. I feel terrible mum guilt for DS1 with DS2 taking all of my attention. I'm really hoping the slight improvement I've had the last day or so continues. He got to the point where it would only be me he'd settle on for a bit which wasn't great for DP 😕

@PopGoesBang just one morning sounds like a win. I'd take that too! As much as I'd love to take her, dog is off to my parents. We're hoping to make Longleat one day and can't leave her at the lodge. Though I'm sure she'd enjoy the most at Longleat out of all of us! 😂

Hi everyone, I haven't checked in for ages. Congratulations to everyone on their little bundles of joy, Maddison is now 19 weeks old it's gone so quick, she weighs a little over 9lb. she's having her third lot of injections tomorrow so fingers crossed these aren't too bad as she is a little bit poorly (first cold) hope everyone is well and settling into mum life okay.

PopGoesBang · 02/10/2022 08:02

@mamaof2girls I can understand that. I'm sure it's a phase and he'll be back to sleeping in the basket again soon - good luck! Children have the best timing don't they - they can't help it I get that but man, sometimes it like they really do know it 🤣

@Beth262 Dog gets a holiday either way! And you're right, she probably would love longleat the most 🤣 if you feed the giraffes send them a pat from me! And fingers crossed the monkeys don't relieve the car of any parts! We've always been ok, but you see some sights. Enjoy!

Isonthecase · 02/10/2022 10:35

We're getting on ok too, just have to keep reminding myself not to overdo it. My mind thinks I am back to normal, my body disagrees 🤣

That holiday sounds lovely, hope you have an amazing time! I've been meaning to try longleat for ages, it looks fab.

Sorry to hear about so many wind problems! We also have one that won't sleep unless he's on someone, tilting the cot has helped a bit but he needs to be in a deep sleep before he'll go down on it.

Has anyone started booking Christmas bits?

Cakecakecheese · 02/10/2022 10:55

I know not everyone is a fan but swaddling was a game changer for us.

Beth262 · 02/10/2022 20:40

Advice please ladies. Don't know if I'm over reacting... Baby's big toe looks red and swollen. Should I take him to a&e? It was like it this morning but I think it's got worse. Is a&e needed?

Passthetena · 02/10/2022 22:04

@Beth262 I'd definitely give 111 a call at least, I remember something about redness in fingers or toes being a potential issue and if it puts your mind at rest it'll be worth while. With them being so little you won't be waiting long for a call back either.

@PopGoesBang your 9 year old sounds like my other half. Today while I was consoling a hangry screaming baby and overtired toddler he decided to give a fashion show with some bits we'd picked up earlier 🥴 and then had a strop when I complained!

Passthetena · 02/10/2022 22:06

Oh didn't realise that was 2 hours ago! I assume you've decided whether to go or not by now. Hope little one is OK, that looks very sore.

madeleine85 · 02/10/2022 22:45

@Beth262 that looks a bit infected. Hope your little one is ok, please let us know x

Another one here to add to the list of babies that don’t enjoy sleeping alone in a hard cold bed. Seriously considering kicking our toddler out of her cot and into a toddler bed to give the little one a real infant cot. The only way we can get him down for the night is with a tight swaddle and a dummy, some sort of a prayer to the gods etc 😂. We’re 8 weeks tomorrow, I think the nice part is even though our guy is being very kranky, he’s finding a routine, and seems to understand what bath, feed and bed means at night… for the most part. During the day I think he’s utterly bored of the living room/couch. He seems to quiet as soon as he gets a change of scenery. Glad we’re all getting through the 4th trimester ok bu the sounds of it ❤️

Isonthecase · 02/10/2022 22:46

Hope it's all sorted now @Beth262, that looks sore! If you've not checked already it's often worth looking for hairs wrapped around any fingers or toes looking like that, can also happen to boys willys, and obviously affects the blood supply making it sore.

PopGoesBang · 03/10/2022 06:19

@Beth262 Hope everything is ok?

@Passthetena some people have great timing choices don't they?!

Dd was having a moment yesterday and crying, assuming she was a bit sore with reflux (the shhh screaming won't help conversation didn't work) you know, their high pitch something isn't right, but I know I've been fed, changed and have all I can but I'll cry anyway cry. My watch informed me I was in a high noise environment 🤣 risk to my hearing may be a thing if I continue to expose myself to it. Not sure that'll work as a bargaining tool with her either.

madeleine85 · 03/10/2022 18:20

@PopGoesBang sorry you're going through this. Someone else mentioned this I think, but with our DD years ago, she definitely had reflux, we propped up one end of her crib with books to create a slight tilt at night for digestion. Not SIDS friendly, but we went past that point at the time. We also did a lot of time upright, my DH walked flights of stairs with her in the carrier till she went down at night, fed her upright, gave some formula for probiotics etc. Ultimately just time that fixed it I think. You kind of become immune to the crying at a certain point, or you lose hearing :)

PopGoesBang · 03/10/2022 18:29

@madeleine85 It such a battle isn't it, hearing them so frustrated and upset is horrible and as much as we can do to ease things it's frustrating all ways round not to be able to solve it.
Good reminder about the tilt on the cot - I'm pretty sure our snuz pod thing has an extra bit of wood to raise it, I shall check that out or find a use for some books rather than collecting dust!
Have thought about getting ear plugs for the neighbours - bet they are glad
To be working from home 🤣

Had a good cry today on DP when he phoned on his break, he text my mum and she came down and offered some moral support.
Gone through all the feels, questioned all choices and debated everything - but, deep down I know this is just another phase and it will disappear and settle. Tomorrows another day and it's a deep breath and keep going until the new days are easier.

Sending lots of love to everyone. We all have our struggles, but I appreciate having here for the support and knowledge sharing. x

mamaof2girls · 03/10/2022 20:08

@PopGoesBang aww hope you are feeling better with everything. I remember with my second she had colic and silent reflux all she done was cry nothing seemed to have helped we had to deal with it for 8 weeks before omeprazole and colic drops worked for her. But I remember at night sitting trying to settle her for 2 hours and all she done was cry scream squirm about and one night I remember handing her to my partner going take her I can't di it anymore and walked out the room crying! Defo is such a hard time! X

PopGoesBang · 05/10/2022 20:18

Thank you all. Today has seen some improvement (I think!) that or I've become immune to it 🤣 might of had a strip over it all last night, but apparently my mood is better today so we'll roll with that!

@Beth262 how is the toe? Hope you are having a wonderful time away and the boys are enjoying it.

Hope everyone is doing ok.
