Re surnames, my baby will have both surnames.

Vimto1991 · 05/04/2022 19:08

Just started considering a hospital bag, then also thought how I’m going to need nursing tops and have no idea where to start. Seen a website called happy mamas- does anyone know if these are good or have a recommendation? Seraphine seems too expensive for me.

Jammymare · 05/04/2022 19:59

This is my last full week at work before I drop to 4 days per week and boy are they trying to make the most of me. I did 9.5hrs yesterday and 9hrs today on an extra project, haven’t even started my normal weekly workload yet!
My manager joined a meeting halfway through me explaining I was off on Mat leave soon to a client and very quickly jumped in with ‘oh that’s still 10 weeks away’ he was pretty shocked when I said actually it’s 6 and a bit weeks, but this is my last week full time, I only have 24 full working days left Grin
They haven’t even advertised for maternity cover yet. Tough shit for them if I get signed off or bring my mat leave forwards because all goodwill on my part is now well and truly gone.
I am 30+5 and this poor baby has absolutely nothing bought for it yet because I just haven’t had the time or the energy, so tonight I have booked in for a John Lewis consultation to look at car seats on Sunday, signed up for a neighbouring area’s ante-natal classes which start tomorrow evening (my hospital is still not offering any due to covid) and made a start on list writing for everything else I need to buy/borrow/get packed into a suitcase.
We haven’t even started on names yet Confused

Jammymare · 05/04/2022 20:00

I’m jealous that some of you can tell which way your baby is lying and identify body parts, you must all be thinner than me Grin

Jammymare · 05/04/2022 20:03

Oh and I also managed to pick up a prescription for omeprazole that I ran out of time to get yesterday. I’ve been waking up at 3am most nights to neck gaviscon so hoping this will knock the heartburn on the head and let me get more sleep

Vimto1991 · 05/04/2022 20:15

@Jammymare I feel your pain! Don’t let work get you down, it’s not worth it. They only care about how much work you are putting in rather than your well-being by the sounds of it. :( this was supposed to be my last full week before I dropped to four days a week until 23rd May, but because they didn’t hire my cover until last week, pushed my work load up and made my deadlines stupid causing palpitations and a racing heart, I bought it all forward until 2nd May. It’s their own fault. ☺️ Sometimes you have to be selfish!! If they don’t care about us why should we care about the job. 🤷‍♀️
Is it worth it to stay on and push yourself? Can you afford to take it earlier? It may help with your fatigue and to get things sorted before baby is here to take it earlier than expected.

Starbeach · 05/04/2022 20:19

Hey ladies I'm 29+4 today and in the last hour I've had a constant pain in the Lower half of my belly if I draw a line across from one side to the other through my belly button. (sorry tmi) I've had a poo so it's not constipation. I know from my growth scan yesterday that she is lying down there. She is kicking me too. Do you think I should ring the hospital just to check

RoseValleyRambles · 05/04/2022 20:44

Yep, i'd ring in for new abdominal pain.

Vimto1991 · 05/04/2022 20:53

@Starbeach call to be sure, hopefully could be wind or even ligament pain! Fingers crossed all is okay for you.

Octoblockisadick · 05/04/2022 21:06

@Jammymare I've been prescribed omeprazole too now, need to go and collect the prescription tomorrow. Hopefully it will mean I can actually lean forward without getting a rush of acid to the back of my throat!

@Starbeach always better to check to be safe. Hope everything is alright ❤

I'm starting to find things a struggle now, no idea how I'm going to cope with potentially another 12 weeks (30 weeks now). I can't even sit on a chair comfortably because my bump feels squashed if I'm not leaning backwards.

GrowBabyGrow · 05/04/2022 21:22

@Rolledthedice I would really recommend the bbbugme pillow if you are still looking for a recco. It's expensive but honestly transformative. Got major insomnia at the moment but even though I'm lying on my side awake I'm still comfortable!

Hope everything is ok @Starbeach

InvisibleDragon · 05/04/2022 21:28

@Octoblockisadick that's a good idea, but I'm not sure the local sling library is still going - Facebook page hasn't been updated in months and no events since last year ...

I've found a Bobo stretch wrap sling on marketplace for £15 which I'll pick up later this week, so I'll stick with that for the moment.

Went up at least 15 flights of stairs today, spent the day in a highly uncomfortable chair in the library and overdid my lizard pose in yoga. My back is feeling pretty sore just now.

beansprout55 · 05/04/2022 22:12

Deffo ring in @Starbeach! If anything it will put your mind at ease x

Anyone got bad restless legs? What are you doing cope? Stupid legs are driving me bloody nuts every night and DH is showing signs of growing tired of the massages! Angry

SouthwestSis · 05/04/2022 22:40

@Vimto1991 you don't necessarily need specialised nursing tops, if you wear a stretchy vest top and then a baggier top over the top you can just pull the vest top down and the other top up.
Dresses or blouses with buttons down the front also work well, or just using scarves to get a bit more coverage whilst whipping a boob out. Lots of inventive ways around buying lots new.
Have a look for second hand seraphine on vinted and fb marketplace too

PleaseSendNoodles · 06/04/2022 03:47

Did you call in the end @Starbeach ? I hope everything is okay!

I assembled the cot today (mostly out of excitement when it arrived). Then did yoga. I am KNACKERED now.

Great to hear what lots of you are doing about last names! @Rolledthedice that’s so cool about getting a civil partnership instead. I really wanted to but they weren’t an option - and time was against us …essential admin needed doing and we had to be married to do it. Romantic, I know! 🤣❤️

Turniptracker · 06/04/2022 07:10

Two surnames here to. Baby will be held Spanish so they have to have two surnames on their passport (not even double barreled). We can choose the order though in theory. Poor little mite is going to have a real mouthful of a name

Turniptracker · 06/04/2022 07:10

Half Spanish*!

Vimto1991 · 06/04/2022 07:34

@beansprout55 me!! It’s driving me nuts. Seems to start about 9pm so I think it’s linked to tiredness. Nothing seems to help other than going to sleep so I spend an hour wiggling my leg on the sofa!!

@SouthwestSis ooooh some good ideas! I’ll have to see what I have, majority of my clothes probably won’t fit after I give birth 😅 but I do have some tank tops and burton shirts! Thanks for the advice! 😃

MrsTwentyNine · 06/04/2022 07:41

Woke up with a stitch type feeling in the belly ...and it feels quite tight. 30 weeks today! Just want the next 10 to hurry up 😭

Starbeach · 06/04/2022 08:41

Morning ladies thank you for last night 😊it was a late night after spoke to the hospital and they said to come in for a check. They were lovely, gave me and the baby an ecg and all fine. They think she might have stretched out, stretching my uterus a bit as she's lying transverse (side to side). 🤦‍♀️ I hope shes just just getting her naughtiness out of her system now 4 scans she's not played ball with and last night she wanted to hide from other ecg whilst kicking the midwife 🙈 xx

RoseValleyRambles · 06/04/2022 09:10

@starbeach Great news. Then do know how to make us worry, don't they? I was up last night in the early hours waiting for mine to do his usual wriggle. Of course then he starts kicking like mad and I can't get back to sleep... Grin but at least I wasn't worrying!

Now in for my GD test and starting the 2 hour wait. At least they have slightly comfier chairs than normal...

unknownscot · 06/04/2022 09:12

Has anyone got an original next2me? I was given one by my SIL - are the originals safe to use?

Jammymare · 06/04/2022 09:23

@Starbeach glad you got checked, always better to be safe than sorry!

InvisibleDragon · 06/04/2022 09:30

Glad everything is ok @Starbeach!

On kicking - our babies are getting so big now! Mine seems to be able to simultaneously jab me in the ribs and bounce on my bladder Shock

Trying to reframe this as "exploring the boundaries of his environment" ...

GrowBabyGrow · 06/04/2022 10:56

@unknownscot I think they still sell the original version and the others just have a few more bells and whistles so with a new mattress I think it should be safe? I was in a similar situation last month - given a snuzpod2 which I worried wasn't safe because it was the 'old' model but I looked into it and the main thing the newer models on all the bedside cribs seem to have is that the sides don't zip all the way down anymore. I don't think we'll be leaving it side down all the time anyway so won't be an issue!
