@ShiningStarz that was me I think. I've had an emergency and then an elective section. Apparently three is the max-ish you would have (although it's not a complete rule) so if you have had sections before and are a certain age then they can perform the tie whilst tidying you up after the section. I'm going to enquire at my consultation. We can't afford another and nor do I think I can put my body through it again (!) So it seems a good option for us. Recovery is meant to be a little tougher but it saves having a second round of surgery after at a later date

Carebear99 · 18/03/2022 12:43

I'm so torn, do I choose a c section or natural birth? What's everyone else doing?

TotoAnnihiliation · 18/03/2022 12:58

@ShiningStarz @Carebear99 I had an emergency c section last time too.I'm going to have an elective this time, even though I've already made up my mind, I've got to go the vac clinic in June.

TotoAnnihiliation · 18/03/2022 13:02

@EverydayIsPJday I'm tempted to have my tubes tied this time, I'm approaching 40 and after this baby, I am planning to close for business. The only thing that has put me off is that the failure rate is higher than the male snip.

EverydayIsPJday · 18/03/2022 13:09

Yes I saw that @TotoAnnihiliation something to do with your tubes being more swollen after pregnancy. there was a thread recently on aibu where someone had fallen pregnant really quite quickly after having the procedure where it had failed (unknowingly) which gave me a massive wobble. I think though there are two methods that they can use to do it, although I'm not sure what's a available through the NHS. I will definitely enquire at my consultation at 26 weeks just to see.

EverydayIsPJday · 18/03/2022 13:10

I think I saw it's the same success rate as using condoms 🤔

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 18/03/2022 14:15

@Carebear99 I think I've decided on ELCS. I had 3c tear (nearly 4th) with torn uterus and blood transfusion with my son. The recovery was horrendous. Covid didn't help no midwife visit. No HV visit. GP refusing to see anyone. I had three back to back infections. Awful. Left isn't prolapse type symptoms and a load of scar tissue. Consultant said they would support whatever decision I made due to damage last time.

stimpyyouidiot · 18/03/2022 14:44

My h is getting the snip after this one. Then I'm not responsible for contraception anymore and no more hormone pills etc.

@Carebear99 I'm having a homebirth hopefully x

EverydayIsPJday · 18/03/2022 15:06

@stimpyyouidiot I'm with you, I can't wait to not have to be responsible for contraception. If I can't get the tie done or it doesn't seem the best option, then off DH goes!!

Home birth sounds lovely too Smile

Elcs for me by default 🤷

annlee3817 · 18/03/2022 16:46

Hmmm not sure I'd want to risk it possibly not working if I was offered a c section for any reason. Coil it is then until I can convince DH to get the snip 🙄

coluu · 18/03/2022 16:56

Does anyone have any nub theories for my scan? I've been trying to look and to me it looks at the end of the body and lying flat? Not sure tho!

Due September 2022 (Thread 4)
annlee3817 · 18/03/2022 17:08

@coluu I think boy, I can see what I think is a stacked nub further up

coluu · 18/03/2022 18:37

@annlee3817 I have a feeling it's a boy! Was just trying to see if I could see any signs. We have a gender scan in a couple of weeks so we will know then!

amorningperson · 18/03/2022 21:16

Hi everyone - first of all congrats @Billymay - I'm guessing..... boy? Are you getting a gender scan or waiting for 20 week scan? I'm tempted to get a gender scan just so my DC can be there fore a scan as he is SO excited!

@Celyn22 @annlee3817 Hi both! So as a nurse I have limited but some knowledge of allergies - I think they can develop for a variety of reasons (genetic predisposition is def v high on the list - and sometimes it's not the same allergy i.e. mother is a coeliac but child may have other dietary issues (but OK with gluten) if that makes sense). I definitely don't think a varied diet will ensure no allergies are developed but studies have looked into the widespread advice in the US of avoiding nuts and nut butters during pregnancy and how this has correlated (no proof it was the cause, but stats show a link) masses of nut and tree nut allergies in kids in the US. So I guess my midwife had been to some CPD which advised that pregnant women of as varied a diet as possible really. As a plant based pregnant lady, I've been finding it quite manageable to eat some dairy and fish - I'll give eggs a go soon (they are def an aversion for me RN) but I understand that for some that would be really really difficult. We do what we can! I'm sure there are other things I'm doing that aren't perfect (still having a couple of coffees or teas a day...) so who knows!

Anyways thanks for the warm welcome all! Looking forward to dipping in here and seeing what everyone is up to.

We are currently in a rental as we sold our house trying to buy another house- our house sold instantly then our sellers stalled and ultimately pulled out of the sale (this was a year a go) and we are have been unable to find anything in our area that we like... Our rent is relatively cheap as it is a family friend's flat which was empty due to not meeting building regulations for rentals (it's totally fine, really minor details!) and so we lucked out a little... but it just feels weirdly impermanent and a bit uncertain (I wish I could start nesting away in a home that I know our baby will be in for sure...) I know this is a first world problem just wondering if anyone else had a slightly fraught living situation! Damn the UK housing crisis!

amorningperson · 18/03/2022 21:18

@stimpyyouidiot - ha the two week wait on the other end.... did you get induced? I was v lucky to not have to - DC came at the last minute at 42 weeks 1 day but I think if I'd gone over anymore I would have had to go with induction with sounds really tough. So I'm a bit worried about this one... It's a tough time after 38 weeks - that waiting is really emotionally exhausting

annlee3817 · 18/03/2022 21:21

Ah sorry about the house @amorningperson we're in rented, have had an offer accepted, but the lady we're buying from hasn't found a house yet, really hoping she does before the baby arrives, but feels a bit like limbo at the moment, great that you're able to rent off friends though, fingers crossed you find something soon

Nope I declined it (their policy was 40+12) and I thought it was too early so declined. I also wanted a home birth. Went into labour that same day, had her at exactly 42 weeks. They were very 'you want a WHAT?' when I said I wanted to have her at home. I'm in a completely new county now and they have a whole home birth team and it just sounds amazing compared to my last experience.

I know I hardly ever post on here but just need someone to talk to. I have my screening scan on Monday morning and I'm freaking out. I've had 3 losses, including a MMC with twins last year.
I've had 3 NHS scans so far with this pregnancy and I'm measuring slightly ahead by a few days. My last scan was 3 weeks ago and all was fine.
My morning sickness has eased off which I was expecting but I still have some nausea and boobs are swollen and sore off and on.
I've tried to be chilled out so far but as the scan gets closer I feel so nervous. Will everything be ok, will my test results come back clear, etc. I'm 41, which I think is adding to my anxiety.

I understand your anxiety. I don't know how to put your mind at rest but don't want you to feel alone. Have you contacted the perinatal mental health team? My anxiety has spiralled out of control and I've got an appointment with my team coming up, I think it's important to have someone to talk to. Please don't feel alone 💕
SoOverThisCrap · 19/03/2022 08:42

Thank you @TotoAnnihiliation I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling. Pregnancy anxiety sucks.
No I haven't spoken to the mental health team but I will do once I've had my scan as I am already anxious about the test results and I've not even had the test yet!

When is your next scan? Around the 12 week stage, symptoms do start to wear off. Not that helps anxiety! I think I will feel so much happier once I feel this bambino moving around.
SoOverThisCrap · 19/03/2022 09:29

@TotoAnnihiliation my scan is on Monday at 9.15am. According to my calculations based on my last scan I'll be 13 weeks 5 days... DH is worried about the test results being ok, which isn't helping.

TotoAnnihiliation · 19/03/2022 09:40

@SoOverThisCrap I am glad you don't have too much longer to wait until your scan. Although it probably feels like a million years away for you! I'm sure I read that the tests can be done up until 14 weeks. Have you got anything nice planned for the weekend to keep your mind busy?

Just wanted to say. I'm so sorry for your losses, I can't even imagine. I suffer from anxiety in general and it's worse since being pregnant, I was so worried too, about my 12w scan that after we had it done I just cried with happiness. All was fine. I genuinely believed in my heart that something was wrong or that I had lost baby, I just felt it like an intuition. And I conceived myself so well that I was surprised to see a healthy little heartbeat on the screen. I have been at the point where I may consider going back on a pregnancy safe anti anxiety medication, due to panic attacks, and I may yet do that. It doesn't do us any good getting so scared and panicked. Might be worth considering talking to your doctor too if you are really struggling? I hope all goes well with you with everything.
