Good luck to everyone with scans and appts today/this week!

@ShiningStarz and @madeleine85 that’s so exciting about feeling flutters! At 13w2d I know I still have a ways to go, but I’m SO excited for it and can't wait! Kinda bummed though bc we found out my placenta is in the front and I’ve read that this placement can muffle feeling movement for a while. Anyone have any experience with that?

@amorningperson so sorry to hear about your loss. And yes, absolutely worried about the weight gain. Although the scale says I haven’t gained that much yet, I feel like I’ve gained so much more! Just trying to be really mindful of how much I’m eating and making sure that (almost) everything I put in my mouth has some sort of needed nutritional value. Helps to drink 12oz of water every time before I eat something. Well, except for the fact that it makes me pee even more haha

Speaking of weight gain, for those of you who have had children before, did you find that stretch mark cream/ointment/oil works at all or is it just a waste of money? I’ve been using it three times a day just in case and I’m wondering if it actually does anything haha
Also, if it does, is there anywhere else I should be focusing besides my belly? I’ve also been putting it on my boobs (already know I get stretch marks there) and lovehandles, but should I also be putting it on my thighs and butt? Where did you guys get stretch marks besides on your belly?

@IzzyLeigh I didn't put any creams, oils or lotions on last time and on had one teeny tiny stretch mark on my belly button where my piercing used to be, only visible to me. I've read on here some many people say that no matter what lotions they used they still got them, and then some people just don't, think it's largely down to genetics. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'm the same as last time

annlee3817 · 21/03/2022 11:14

Sorry bad typing

SoOverThisCrap · 21/03/2022 11:48

So I've had my scan and all looks good. Messing 13 weeks 4 days, I've had my blood taken for the screening and I can stop taking my progesterone pessaries at 16 weeks....

SoOverThisCrap · 21/03/2022 12:03

Measuring, not messing!

Tinadecember · 21/03/2022 12:08

@IzzyLeigh I spent an absolute fortune on oils and creams in my first pregnancy and thought I had gotten away with it until around 32 weeks when I began developing stripes like a tiger haha!

This time I won't be investing in any miracle creams.

I think if you have the type of skin that is prone to mark then there is no avoiding it.

annlee3817 · 21/03/2022 12:11

@SoOverThisCrap glad the scan went well, and you must be happy about stopping the progesterone :)

Goodgoodthings · 21/03/2022 12:36

@IzzyLeigh I had anterior placenta with my little girl and I did feel flutters a bit later on but by the time she was bigger and moving around properly there was no muffling it 😅 the best feeling in the world! I remember feeling very disheartened though waiting for those first little pops and flutters but they do come.

Also wanted to add my experience with stretch mark creams - I used them all the way through pregnancy and will do again this time because I loved that time to be present and connect with the baby. But! I did get stretch marks from my belly button down and they are what some people would say are "bad". They actually go down quite far underneath the knicker line lol which I didn't know was possible but there you go. I was mortified about them after giving birth especially knowing that women are avoiding having the body that I have but I feel much better about them now. I think like someone else said it's just down to your skin type, but I hope that regardless of your luck you can feel confident and beautiful - our bodies are magic.

Hey everyone :)

Been to my 16 week appointment today and wondering if anyone knows much about the Tommys app? I don't know if every hospital uses it.

My risk came back as moderate for the placental function assessment test so I'll be having extra scans at 30 and 37 weeks, but the midwife couldn't tell me why?

From looking at the risk factors online, the only one I have is a family history of pre-eclampsia as my mum had it, but it's just annoying they don't tell you. They also said it's all based on the info from the scan and tests they run that day, but they told me those were fine? Confused.

Tbh I'm glad of the extra scans as otherwise it's such a long time to wait, but just puzzled by how often midwives tell you you need something but then when you ask the reasons why they just say the computer has told them?

I did cocoa butter every day and I still got covered in them! Did absolutely zero.
stimpyyouidiot · 21/03/2022 13:38

Had 16 week appt today, all good and heard the heartbeat 🥰 I think I forget or sort of don't believe it's real until I see a scan or hear the heartbeat haha.

GlitteryGreen · 21/03/2022 13:45

@stimpyyouidiot I am exactly the same, especially as I have barely any symptoms and no bump.
They didn't do the heartbeat for me so 20 week scan will be the next time I hear anything I think :)

stimpyyouidiot · 21/03/2022 14:01

They did say that they might not be able to, and I didn't hear it for long but it was good enough for me :)

ShiningStarz · 21/03/2022 14:13

@IzzyLeigh luckily I got no stretch marks in first pregnancy! I wasn't that big. I did use palmers body butter a few times a day on bump just. I think it depends on how big the bump is. This time im doing the same and might add in some coconut oil too at night before bed.

That's great @SoOverThisCrap hope you feel much better now. I know it's still constant worry but relief at the same time

SoOverThisCrap · 21/03/2022 14:59

Thank you @ShiningStarz and @annlee3817
It's a relief to have had the scan today, I'm sure the anxiety will come back in the buildup to the 20 week one but I'm so pleased all went well today.
I don't mind taking a progesterone, I think I'll actually be a bit nervous when I come off it.

annlee3817 · 21/03/2022 15:05

@SoOverThisCrap I get that, I'm on them until 36 weeks and really don't like them, but I shouldn't moan as they serve a purpose.

madeleine85 · 21/03/2022 15:54

@IzzyLeigh I just used a regular moisturizer once a day, straight out the shower and got no marks (fortunately). But didn’t really stretch last time. I just covered myself head to toe. Doing the same this time around.

@annlee3817 thanks so much for your experience, it’s really helpful. Just had mine. They just did the internal but seems ok, everything is closed and measuring fine. They played the heartbeat for me which was very reassuring after last week’s sudden movement then nothing.

@stimpyyouidiot yay for skin clearing up (finally) and your checkup!

Good luck to everyone with scans this week! Nice to see us clearing the 12-16 week hurdle! ❤️

madeleine85 · 21/03/2022 16:39

@annlee3817 spoke to the doctor at the end, and I will be prescribed progesterone and have a follow up in a month for the detailed anatomical scan and cervix measurements. It’s beginning to feel more real now I think. Can’t wait for a month from now when we’re Half way

annlee3817 · 21/03/2022 18:53

Ah all sounds positive @madeleine85 progesterone stopped my cervix shortening any further in my last pregnancy :)

annlee3817 · 21/03/2022 18:54

@madeleine85 it can cause constipation though, I make a prune puree to drink before bed every night and it helps massively

madeleine85 · 21/03/2022 19:28

Thank you so much @annlee3817. I've never taken it, so it is really great to know in advance what to take to help the side effects. Ultimately i'll suffer the prune juice if I can keep this child in until 37 weeks :)
