Also read they sometimes use 5mm as the cut off in the US which hasn’t made me feel any better!

CoalCraft · 28/03/2022 16:50

@squatternutbosh12 I'm sorry you've had slightly worrying results. Really hope future scans show all is well with little one's kidneys.

On the point of the nuchal fold, I thought the cut off for this being informative was about 14 weeks, and after that individual variation in baby size can muddy the results? Isn't that why they can only do the combined screening before 14 weeks?

madeleine85 · 28/03/2022 21:57

@squatternutbosh12 i'm glad that the scan is done and that you saw him moving around, but sorry about the extra stress. The internet is a really scary dangerous place. All i'll say is my MIL was told to expect a downs baby on their 3rd based on measurements, but was very religious so carried to term. He was completely fine (had a large head though). Scary about the cases that can be false positives, or false negatives honestly. Can you follow up with the midwife/consultant for more information just to put you at rest over it? I would otherwise like you worry for the next 20 weeks. Mine isn't for another 3 weeks which feels like a lifetime away. For some reason my 20 week scan is at almost 21 weeks. Fun times!

@CoalCraft just saw your response, and that is really interesting, and sounds like a good thing to know going into this. The weird thing about American care is that they seem to try to not give you any measurements from scans. With my DD they just said it was all fine, but didn't give me anything which I could google, which was probably wise. This time unless I try to find the results on the portal, it would be the same and they wouldn't tell me. At the 12 week they said it was normal, and when I found the results after searching they said 1.8 I think but the sonographer never told me what it was. They've probably had too many neurotic future parents questioning them constantly and try not to give too much i'm guessing.

squatternutbosh12 · 29/03/2022 00:16

@CoalCraft thank you, yeah hopefully when we see the foetal medicine clinic they can give some reassurance. Yeah i had thought that too re nuchal measurements but the measurement at 12 week scan is ‘nuchal translucency’ - which does disappear after 14 weeks - and then they measure the ‘nuchal fold’ after that point (ie just the skin at the back of the neck). Larger measurements still get referred at this point as same sorts of risks associated.

@madeleine85 that’s good to know all was well with your MIL’s even though they said high risk. Nobody has actually said high risk to me at this point so I’m hoping I’ve just worried over nothing! 3 weeks does feel long to wait but hopefully it flies by for you x

squatternutbosh12 · 29/03/2022 00:18

@CoalCraft is your scan coming up too? Hope all goes well x

SantiagoSister · 29/03/2022 07:32

@squatternutbosh12 sorry you’ve had this worry to deal with, I can understand why you would be worried. But I think that if the consultants don’t seem too worried, that’s a very good start. When is your foetal medicine scan? I can’t remember the exact figure but I know for certain baby’s nuchal fold was 5. something at my 20 week scan a couple of weeks ago at foetal medicine and nothing was mentioned about it, so hopefully that’s fine for both of us!

So the bloody covid got me in the end, I guess it was inevitable with it in the house. Feeling very bunged up and a lot of pressure in my sinuses but thankfully that’s all the symptoms I have at the moment. Hoping it stays that way, I am worried it might affect baby somehow and hope that isn’t the case 😩

CoalCraft · 29/03/2022 08:56

@squatternutbosh12 Thanks, yes, it's the day after tomorrow. At the moment I'm feeling more excited (well, impatient) than nervous but we'll see how I feel on the day!

squatternutbosh12 · 29/03/2022 10:26

@SantiagoSister oh no - damn you covid! Hope you feel better soon. Not sure when the foetal medicine scan is yet but they said they’d phone me within a couple of days to arrange it, so hopefully quite soon. I actually spoke to a midwife this morning and she said 5.5 was considered fine and not to worry about it- so that and the fact nobody batted an eyelid at 5-point-something for both your scan and mine I’m guessing should reassure both of us! So am feeling a bit better about that bit. Just fingers crossed his little kidneys sort themselves out!

Mufflette · 29/03/2022 11:59

Sorry it got you @SantiagoSister, hope it stays not too bad. Please try not to worry too much, so many of us in this group seem to have had it now and babies all ok, just with added antibodies!

SantiagoSister · 29/03/2022 18:35

Thank you both! @squatternutbosh12 @Mufflette hoping it can just stay mild, feels like a bad cold at the moment. I agree, it is really reassuring that with everyone whose had it in the group, all babies seem to be absolutely fine so I do take comfort from that and hopefully it’ll be the same for me and bubs too.

Hopefully you hear about your scan soon @squatternutbosh12, I’m glad the midwives said the measurement was nothing to worry about and it’s made you (and me!) feel a bit more reassured. Hopefully any issues with his kidneys will have resolved when you go back with any luck! The foetal medicine scans are so much more in detail so they’ll be able to check things out a lot more thoroughly for you and hopefully put your mind at ease.

CoalCraft · 29/03/2022 19:15

Really active babby today. Anyone else fond the kicks kind of uncomfortable in a way? They always startle me a bit, somehow! Though of course I find them reassuring too.

squatternutbosh12 · 29/03/2022 19:18

@SantiagoSister got a call from the foetal medicine clinic today and we’re seeing them on Thursday! Impressively quick!

squatternutbosh12 · 29/03/2022 19:29

@CoalCraft mines been really wriggly today too! He has also developed a habit of kicking me right in the belly button and i must have a sensitive nerve there or something as it gives me a sort of zap/jolt feeling.. it’s not really uncomfortable I suppose, more just a bit.. surprising 😂

Beth262 · 29/03/2022 19:56

Hope you're feeling better soon @SantiagoSister As you say, a lot of us on this thread seem to had had it and all appears fine with babies :)

@squatternutbosh12 sorry they potentially picked something up with his kidneys on the scan but that's really good they've got you back in just a few days. Hope they find it's a non issue.

A quiet day movement wise for me but I get what you mean @CoalCraft when you say the kicks startle you. They do me too - especially the more harder ones!

@squatternutbosh12 that’s great! Glad they’ve managed to get you in so quickly.

Thank you @Beth262 😊

Gem2811 · 30/03/2022 06:45

20 week scan today! Not slept a bit last night wondering if I will ever not be anxious for this!

Beth262 · 30/03/2022 07:07

Hope all goes well @Gem2811

Best of luck @Gem2811 !

ToCaden · 30/03/2022 10:41

@Gem2811 good luck!

RP90 · 30/03/2022 15:22

Hope your scan goes well!!

I went shopping today but think it was a bad move. Nothing fitted right and left me feeling a bit "blugh". Feel I'm in that awkward stage where I have a bump but I'd like it to be a little harder or higher. I don't know? Definitely didn't have the pregnancy glow in the changing rooms that's for sure 😂 also know I'll have plenty more growing to do so don't want to spend a fortune!

We've also had hailstones blow through today after beautiful weather. Happy bloody Wednesday haha!!

squatternutbosh12 · 30/03/2022 15:23

@Gem2811 good luck today- unless you’ve had it already in which case hope it all went well!

And @CoalCraft good luck for yours tomorrow! I have my foetal med one tomorrow as well so we can be anxious together 😆

Gem2811 · 30/03/2022 16:51

Thank you all! Everything went well thank goodness!

CoalCraft · 31/03/2022 08:47

Sonographer sick with covid, they've cancelled my scan this afternoon 😧

... And rescheduled for this morning 😃

Beth262 · 31/03/2022 09:30

Couldn't get better @CoalCraft! Hope all goes well x

Lovely news on all the 20 weeks scans.

10 days still to go until my 20 week scan!

I've had a couple of losses in the past (1 before my little boy and 1 directly before my current pregnancy (no period in between)). Is anyone else too nervous to buy anything yet? I won't even buy a wee outfit 😔.

Also when I've told some people out little rainbow is a boy they've said oh I was hoping you were having a girl ☹️☹️, I just want a healthy baby and my little boy was desperate for a brother so we are over the moon, just hard to feel like your baby is a 2nd prize x
