Hi all,

I've just had my BFP and am due early October 2022, for my first baby I joined a group on here for people all due the same month so thought I'd start one this time round - early days I know but nice to speak to people in the same boat! 🙂

I'm 31 and have a DD who is 16 months.

Is anyone else due in October? How are you feeling?

@Aubyone ooohh that's good to know then, thank you. I'm actually glad they will talk about MH. Generally I struggle with anxiety which focuses around health. I'm scared of everything from needles, to feeling sick/vomiting and being unwell and blood etc.

I have to admit I am struggling a bit at the moment and feel like my own fears and phobias are ruining my experience. I feel really alone too because only my partner and my mum and dad know and also all other ladies seem to really have it together. I'm so so scared of the simple blood test that the anxiety is making me feel sick. I'm wondering if I'm up to the task of it all now and I'm only 6 weeks!

Don't get me wrong I feel so blessed and grateful to be pregnant but I'm scared of everything to the point I'm not sure how I will get through it all.

Can anyone relate or is it just me?

MrsG2021 · 18/02/2022 09:11

Hi @HRHXO

Sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way but I can completely relate. I suffered badly with health anxiety for about 5 years and, while things have improved a lot over the last few years, I have felt those thoughts start to creep back in now that I’m pregnant. One thing that’s really helped me is having an early reassurance scan. I had one at 7w+1 and seeing the heartbeat made me feel so much better. Would that be an option for you in a week or so? I’m only allowing myself the one scan before 12 weeks as I don’t want to get trapped in a cycle of seeking reassurance, more anxiety, seeking more reassurance etc. I’m now trying to tell myself that I know I’m pregnant (I’ve seen their heartbeat!), baby is in the right place and I’ve got no reason to believe that anything has gone wrong.

I know how lonely it can feel so always here to chat if you need to. It’s also definitely worth mentioning to the midwife at your booking in appointment. I did at mine on Tuesday x

HRHXO · 18/02/2022 09:23

@MrsG2021 thank you for thus I really needed it. I do have an early scan booked for 6th March when I'll be 8+1. My booking app with midwife is 7+6. I do think the scan will help because it will settle my nerves and also allow me to confirm I'm doing all of this for my baby. I just need to get through the blood test and talk to my midwife first then I can focus on the next steps.

So glad I have this group if lovely ladies!

Yellowdott · 18/02/2022 09:29

@HRHXO sorry you're struggling with anxiety.

Blood tests are a breeze, honestly. Get someone to talk to you or put a nice program on your phone while they do it. You won't feel it!

And by the time you have your baby you'll be so used to needles they won't faze you at all!

If you're feeling worried about the actual birth, I'd really recommend hypno birthing. With my first I was petrified and it took away all my fears!

Hope you can feel more relaxed soon Flowers

Leibee87 · 18/02/2022 09:30

@HRHXO I feel ya. Definitely speak to your midwife. I was so anxious yesterday before my scan I'm still anxious about it to be honest but now I have the confidence knowing that bub is fighting strong (even if I don't feel sick anymore) so I can just look at the little picture every time I get scared.

MrsG2021 · 18/02/2022 09:32

@HRHXO No worries, my lovely. I think you’re absolutely right, just take one step at a time. Have you had a blood test before? I hate needles but I promise that you’ll barely feel it. I just turn my head away and carry on chatting to the nurse to distract myself. It will be over before you know it and you’ll be so proud of yourself afterwards x

BecLJ · 18/02/2022 12:24

@HRHXO I can relate to an extent as I've had anxiety and depression since I was a teenager - although not related to health which must be really tough during pregnancy.

In my previous pregnancy mine always made me wonder if I was being a 'normal' level of anxious about things or if it was my MH causing it. It's hard to tell! Id also come off my medication not long before getting pregnant.

I raised my MH history at my first midwife appointment and they were really good at talking about it at each appointment. I also found having groups like this very helpful. I suppose my advice would be to make people (personal and medical) know of your health anxiety and see what they can advise - they are meant to be there for your wellbeing too.

Good luck with your blood test, as others have said once you've done one hopefully it will seem less scary and you'll be rightfully proud of yourself!

Ladies who had early scans, do you mind posting pictures??

I have mine in Monday, I believe will be around 6w4 and would like to see what to expect 😀

BecLJ · 18/02/2022 14:27

@sunnysideup2020 this was my daughter at 7weeks4days (previous pregnancy) we also heard and saw her heartbeat.

I have my early scan next Saturday when I'll be 8+4.

Good luck for your scan on Monday! How exciting x

Hello everyone!! I hope you don't mind me joining the thread! I'm 8 weeks today, will be due around 7th October. Last period 25/12/21. I won't be having a midwife appointment for another two weeks? I already have 1 child and I don't recall having the appointment as late as 10 weeks last time. Does anyone know if that's ok? I'll be bang on 10 weeks on the date they've given me.

I've also been cramping a lot today, just wondering if that's normal at all? I don't remember cramping happening beyond 6 weeks last time x

HRHXO · 18/02/2022 15:35

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the support and advice. Once I've had this first blood test and my early scan I think I will relax a bit. Having a phobia of vomiting isn't helping either because I'm anxious about feeling sick and the anxiety makes me feel sick and then I can't tell if it's pregnancy or anxiety! Anyway, I feel better for sharing.

Does anyone else have hip/lower back aches? I feel like at 6 weeks it's way too soon for pelvic aches but I definitely feel a pressure! Being a first timer I have so many questions I'm taking note of for my midwife lol

Samthenanny · 18/02/2022 15:43

@rmummyofone I’m due the 8th and I’m 7 weeks today and I’ve also been given my first appointment at exactly 10 weeks! From the fb group it seems they can be anytime from 7-10 weeks depending where about you live.
I’m going for a early scan on Sunday

rmummyofone · 18/02/2022 15:46

@HRHXO I also have a severe fear of vomiting!!! I would recommend you watch zoellas video on YouTube as she suffers from the same phobia, she discussed what she did to help the nausea.
In my last pregnancy I wore sea bands most of the time from 7-12 weeks! They were amazing!! I just got some again from boots last night along with some caffeine free coke and the combination of both really really helped. Chewing gum sometimes helps too!!

rmummyofone · 18/02/2022 15:48

@Samthenanny that sounds super exciting!! I hope the scan goes really well and you leave with the happiest memories! I guess it must be normal to have an appointment at 10 weeks then lol
Was just a bit surprised as last time it was much sooner but hey ho!

rmummyofone · 18/02/2022 15:49

@HRHXO they were actually so good I didn't throw up much at all, only once and that was due to low blood pressure from what I believe was standing too long in a hot room (I was supervising on a school trip to a trampoline park) lol

daisiesandpeonies · 18/02/2022 16:03

@HRHXO when you're in labour - ask for the anti sickness jab as soon as you arrive at the hospital/midwives arrive at your house. Lots of women throw up as the change to the pushing stage happens and lots feel sick when they take gas and air. I insisted on the anti sickness jab in labour with DD due to my fear of vomiting - it worked a treat, no sickness at all.

daisiesandpeonies · 18/02/2022 16:06

Has anyone got any tips for fatigue? I can barely keep my eyes open. Husband has had to take over with the toddler, whilst trying to wfh, and I'm in bed. Not that I can sleep with this storm hurling wheelie bins down our road Sad

HRHXO · 18/02/2022 16:12

@rmummyofone I'm definitely going to watch the Zoe Sugg vlog thing then! And I think I have travek sickness bands somewhere so going to dig them out thanks for the tips!

@daisiesandpeonies oh wow I didn't even know that was a thing so ill definitely ask for that! Bloody hate needles but I reckon in labour I won't care and anything to avoid vomiting because I won't want the stress and anxiety of feeling sick whilst trying to birth my baby lol.

This group is a life saver 🥲

kate288 · 18/02/2022 16:15

Congrats all 😃 I'm due around the 25th oct with baby #2. My daughter is 3. We found out 2 days ago and it's still sinking in. Fingers crossed all goes ok!

daisiesandpeonies · 18/02/2022 16:28

@HRHXO seriously you won't care about needles by that stage of labour! 😂 it goes straight into your leg fat

HermioneGr · 18/02/2022 16:40

Wasn't prepared for how tired I'd be pregnant and looking after my toddler... Shattered Hmm

BecLJ · 18/02/2022 16:43

Pregnancy tiredness plus toddler is so hard! I'm working today (from home but toddler with my mum) and had a nap at lunchtime which was amazing!!

Hello, please can I join? Got my positive on Monday and am currently 4+4.

Sadly had an early miscarriage in September so am trying not to symptom check too much. This thread has been so helpful so far!

EED 24 October.

1stTimeTina · 18/02/2022 18:28

Hi, Hope it’s ok if I join, took me so long to find a thread like this , don’t know what I was even searching for 🙈 I’ll be 6 weeks on Sunday. Unfortunately had a miscarriage Oct/Nov last year so I’m really nervous this time. Today is when I started to bleed in my last pregnancy so super anxious but trying my best to stay positive. Sickness and boob pain are in full swing , oh and the tiredness too!!! Even harder this time with a toddler . I shouldn’t moan. I’m super grateful to be pregnant and just hope I make it all the way!! Xx
