@strawberrysummer19 ahh that's nice! Makes more sense that it's a private clinic, that didn't even occur to me - I didn't think it sounded like something the NHS would have the patience for 😂

strawberrysummer19 · 19/02/2022 19:18

@KizboBaggins oh yes sorry it was a private scan I'm 17+5 and can't wait for my 20 week scan! More so because of having some reassurance also xx

KizboBaggins · 19/02/2022 19:24

@strawberrysummer19 definitely need that reassurance! Feels like so long since the last scan. I'm 17+6. I was tempted to do a private scan this week but we did one at 8 weeks and it was great, but if I get into the habit of it I won't stop and we'll spend a fortune 😅

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 19:26

@KizboBaggins it will fly by! Yeah I found out with both my first I didn’t know I was pregnant till I was 16 weeks. With my second I knew he was a boy from the start and this one I’m just saying boy cos I have 2 already 🤣

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 19:29

@KizboBaggins sorry forgot to add this- yeah all gender neutral mainly white and grey quite boring but I haven’t got much and won’t be buying too much

KizboBaggins · 19/02/2022 20:05

@Fizzybubblegumbottles oh wow, 16 weeks is so far along! I bet it was a huge shock. That's amazing. I'm going to try not to buy too much as well - our friends with a baby boy are giving us all their old clothes so regardless of the sex baby will definitely be wearing free stuff 😂

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 20:12

@KizboBaggins was a huge shock especially at 18! Yeah my cousin recently had a baby boy so I will have a Moses basket, next to me etc coming will just get new mattresses and bedding- tbh not knowing has saved me a bit of money lol as I’ve not gone over the top but once the baby comes I know my bank will be crying buying the coloured clothes 🤣 with this being my 3rd I know how much of the stuff you don’t actually really need.

KizboBaggins · 19/02/2022 20:37

@Fizzybubblegumbottles it's so hard not to go mad isn't it. We're trying to save as much as possible, as naive me had no idea how low SMP is!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 20:44

@KizboBaggins so hard! I think even more difficult when you know the gender lol as you wanna buy every cute thing you see! I know I’m not looking forward to the big cut in my wages each month! 🙄 I’m planning to work as close to my due date as possible- I work in a school full time so been off this week relaxing back to reality next week 🥱

strawberrysummer19 · 19/02/2022 21:00

@KizboBaggins I know the feeling! I have had a a few but wouldn't have had it any other way
Now I'm this far I feel so much less anxious so I have my 20wk scan on 8th and then I wont have any more private ones now xx

CaptainCarp · 19/02/2022 21:08

A couple of friends have got me some bundles together of clothes, towels, bibs & other bits. They've had 1 of each or didn't know what they were having to start with so i think it will be fairly gender neutral.
If it's free im not going to argue over a pink/blue babygro for boy/girl. I reckon it will get to the "as long as it's clean" stage fairly quickly.

@KizboBaggins DD is 19 months, I’m due the week after she turns 2 (hoping baby doesn’t come on or before her birthday!)
I didn’t really plan on still breastfeeding her but have sort of fallen into it. It just works soooo well to calm her down when she’s upset! I’m too lazy to give up such a useful tool Grin

Had we planned it I think we would have left another 6 months to a year before getting pregnant again but it wasn’t on purpose Blush luckily we have enough money saved to cover another mat leave a bit earlier than planned!

I have no idea how we’ll cope with two but I expect a lot of snacks and bribery will be involved for DD! We’re lucky to have quite a lot of support nearby so I think we’ll be ok.

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 21:14

@CaptainCarp i agree most baby stuff is in good condition anyway cos they always have so much stuff and grow so quickly and probs never wear anything more than a few times.

CaptainCarp · 19/02/2022 21:27

@Fizzybubblegumbottles yes my sister has a baby which will be 1 by the time ours is born so expect lots off them as well!

I've also signed up to Emma's diary & bounty. Picked up 2 of the free bags from Emmas diary today got a pack of 22 newborn nappies & a full pack of baby wipes with other bits.

Thought it wasn't bad at all for free!

OP posts:
Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 21:41

@CaptainCarp it does help with the cost a bit too!

I have picked up my bounty pack from Tesco and got a free pack of newborn Tesco nappies and Huggies wipes- I’m yet to pick up my Emma diary one where did you pick it up from? Gotta love a freebie! 🤣

CaptainCarp · 19/02/2022 22:04

@Fizzybubblegumbottles i know I'm buying a 2nd hand next to me from another friend to save a bit from a new one!

I've not collected the bounty 1 yet. Got 1 mum to be & 1 bump to baby. Had to go to Argos & boots as the boots didn't have any of the mum to be 1s.
Typically I'd gone to tesco 1st thing but didn't know the bounty packs were a thing.

Literally been sat googling free stuff whilst watching the boxing 😂

So exciting everyone is starting to find out the sex of their babies! We are keeping ours a surprise until the birth, which will be difficult! There’s still a part of me that is like “why don’t we just find out” and have that exciting moment sooner. I have my 20 week scan in just under 3 weeks and it’s going to be so crazy knowing that I could find out true sex but not finding out 😂

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 19/02/2022 23:27

@CaptainCarp that’s handy they are expensive to buy and aren’t in them for long- my cousin is giving me hers once she’s finished so saves me buying one 👍🏻 Thank you I’m gonna go in boots/Argos near me to see if they have any of the packs! Ahh next time you’re in Tesco pick it up!

@Coco9910 trust me I was so tempted today! She told me to look away I just wanted to turn my head to the screen 🤣 I really just wanted that it’s a …. when it’s born experience this time round! Even when I go back Monday it’s gonna be so tempting.. then I’ve got scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks.. every time is going to be tempting!

strawberrysummer19 · 20/02/2022 09:32

I'm going to start buying once I've had my 20 week scan in 2.5 weeks. Also we are moving house in 2 weeks so we aren't buying anything at all until we are in! It's bigger as in bedrooms but are actually loosing space so we have a nice spacious 2 bed flat going to a 3 bed semi house but upgrading with garden, separate rooms rather than open plan, kitchen isn't in front room etc and more bathrooms, drive way and no top floor flat!

Anyway what would you say it's ok for second hand / brand new?

Trying to keep costs as low as we can

For first 10 yrs ago bought everything new but then market place wasn't about then ! X

Porridgeislife · 20/02/2022 09:45

@strawberrysummer19 I’m planning to get a lot of my baby’s stuff second hand. The exception will be the buggy as it’s a new model (haven’t seen any second hand) & obviously the car seat.

We can likely afford new but second hand is better for the environment, embraces the circular economy and I work in sustainability so I should practice what I preach Grin

(Absolutely no judgement of anyone buying all new: everyone’s come on a different journey to having their baby Daffodil)

Porridgeislife · 20/02/2022 09:48

I also don’t currently have a house so I feel your pain! We’ve been under offer since August and our vendor’s purchase fell over so we’ve been house hunting again.

We went into rental as it’s a competitive market where we are, but our lease ends a week before the baby comes and we know our landlords want the house back.

CaptainCarp · 20/02/2022 10:11

I'm buying a new car seat - I'm keen on the joie 360 not sure if to go for the I-size or not.
I wouldn't buy second hand unless it was a sibling who had brought a 2nd seat that was only required for a short time or something.

Bought a 2nd hand pram & moses basket. Buying a next me 2nd but will get a new mattress.
I have got them all from people i know though so know they are smoke-free & in good condition.
Clothes we buy 2nd hand already so no problem with 2nd baby clothes.

I'm planning on going to some mum2mum markets from next month. If i didn't have the above. I'd be tempted to get them from there as long as they are set up because you can have a good look & decide rather than being "on the spot" going to someones house from marketplace

OP posts:
CaptainCarp · 20/02/2022 10:19

@Porridgeislife that sounds incredibly stressful! Do you think your landlord would offer you a monthly rolling lease if you've got somewhere but not quite completed?

OP posts:
paintfairy · 20/02/2022 12:36

@strawberrysummer19 @CaptainCarp @Porridgeislife I'm hoping to get nearly everything 2nd hand but I was waiting until after my 20 week scan too. Problem is- I keep seeing bargains! I have bought a snuzpod from fb marketplace. And although the gender scan said girl, I'm reserving judgement so I've not bought clothes yet. I will buy a new car seat though and I was planning on getting a 360 one. Not been to the shop yet though so I'm not sure which one, but one that lasts a fair while seems sensible. We'll likely need 2 at some point. 🙄

KizboBaggins · 20/02/2022 15:28

@SamanthaVimes Aw it will be so lovely to have them grow up together so close in age! But good that you have plenty of support to help you out haha
