Oh wow, @Olive60 sounds like baby really wants to remain a surprise!

Glad it’s not just me keeping it a secret @Vimto1991 - so hard not to slip up!

@BunBun221 that all sounds really disappointing. I’m so sorry you’re feeling like you’re not getting good care. Can you escalate it within your trust?

Turniptracker · 19/01/2022 22:32

Oh @BunBun221 I'm so sorry that's such a horrible experience you are having I'm so shocked about that. I am really concerned they aren't checking your urine as I understood that's how they detect gestational diabetes. I didn't get weighed at my 16 week scan either but they did do everything else. Did you raise the lack of these tests with them at the time? Sending you big hugs xxx

RoseValleyRambles · 19/01/2022 22:51

@prema112 I think it's just from having everything else squished up into them. Poor ribs.

RoseValleyRambles · 19/01/2022 22:53

@bunbun221 That really doesn't sound great - I'm sorry. I don't know what they ought to do vs what's optional, but is there anyone you could raise it with? Not sure what the complaints process is for midwifery. Would it be PALS?

BunBun221 · 19/01/2022 23:01

@PleaseSendNoodles @Turniptracker @RoseValleyRambles thanks all. I'm a bit stuck on how to raise it all to be honest because it's not just an experience with one department. Its the local GP, the community midwife, the antenatal department and even the dentist (i can't get an NHS dentist appointment anywhere - I'm having to go private because there are literally zero options). I keep getting quite emotional and overwhelmed! I'm not seeing the community midwife now until 25 weeks (which is frustrating as I need to get my Mat B1 from her directly apparently) and somehow need to get a new prescription for Folic Acid (the higher dosage) without being able to actually book a doctors appointment. Everything just feels like a bit of a struggle.

AlbatrossSociety · 19/01/2022 23:19

@BunBun221 it just makes no sense to make getting good prenatal care so difficult, I'm so sorry everyone is being useless! They're literally making it impossible to follow their own advice, that's so frustrating. I don't have any advice on how to raise it and to be honest it sounds like thinking about that may be just another stress that you really don't need!! Maybe you can write it all down as a letter/email and pass it over at your next appointment or send it off somewhere? Might help to get it all down on paper and be able to vent and then send it off and feel like you're getting rid of some of the frustration and disappointment? Also starts a paper trail which means they can be held more accountable than a phone call. Sorry you're having to deal with it at all.

MrsNT · 19/01/2022 23:35

Ladies ive been thinking. What do you do with newborns for night time feed. After you have changed their nappy, fed and burped do they fall asleep straight away or stay awake for a bit ? During day time i get its easiar but if they are staying up for an hr or 2 at night how do u manage

MrsNT · 19/01/2022 23:36

@BunBun221check on ur hospitals website regarding how to complain. My hospital/surgery has it and ive usdd it in the past

Prema112 · 20/01/2022 03:34

Well I can't sleep so looking up baby boy names which isn't helping with the not sleeping but I am feeling slightly more hopeful that I might find one I like eventually!

@BunBun221 So sorry you've had this experience, that really sucks. There seems to be such a range of experiences with care on this group. I think writing it all down sounds like a good idea

Hope everyone is sleeping well!

Prema112 · 20/01/2022 03:39

@MrsNT Newborns sleep A LOT. They are all different of course and there can be a lot of crying, vomiting and poop in those awake times! They are so funny, they are awake so briefly and then can't help falling asleep again! Doesn't last long but first few weeks they sleep loads. I watched LOTR extended edition when my son was newborn! (Should have had a notepad at the ready for 2nd child names 🤣)

Prema112 · 20/01/2022 03:40

Having said that most newborn are nocturnal so there probably will be some nighttime parties 🎉

mrkb · 20/01/2022 06:23

@BunBun221 I'm so sorry that sounds so frustrating and really upsetting. I would 100% recommend making a complaint via PALS. I have had really hit and miss care including not being referred properly to the genetic team at my booking scan for something in my immediate family. I outlined this in an email to PALS over the weekend and got a phone call back today, as well as a new midwife contact and things seem to be moving really quickly now. Definitely worth a shot - good luck. I know how frustrating and upsetting it is feeling like you've slipped through the net.

Clomid1 · 20/01/2022 08:00

@MrsTwentyNine still no movement here as well. I am 18+5 so 19 weeks on saturday.

No symptoms + no movements is super scary isn’t it. I am not going to lie walking around I sometimes forget I am even pregnant.

We have our scans soon though (you next week and me the monday after) so hopefully we should see them kicking away there. Don’t google anything or read any old threads from mumsnet, try to keep yourself distracted until next week. Oh We’re nearly at the half way mark 🥰

And like others have mentioned it sounds like feeling movements this early especially with your first is rare. So hopefully give it another 3 or 4 weeks and we should get something 🥰

Clomid1 · 20/01/2022 08:09

@MrsNT This is my first but was speaking to my friend who gave birth a month ago, she said she has no idea where she has the energy from. I’ve been warned not to plan too much in maternity leave lol.

On another note my friends baby won’t sleep in his cot so I am wondering if I need to buy a moses basket, bedside crib and cot

PeeAche · 20/01/2022 08:16

Further to what @Clomid1 has said, I'm 18+2 and feeling nothing. I got dopplered at my Quad Test on Monday and can confirm baby is in there... just can't feel them!Xxx

destiEos · 20/01/2022 09:36

@Prema112 yeah, sleep has been disrupted since getting the maternity pillow, it feels like I'm getting off to sleep better, but waking up and turning over is a bit of an event! So more disruption in the night.. I'll give it a bit longer before I switch back to DH as pillow 😉

destiEos · 20/01/2022 09:37

@rathernotshare whoo! Half way 😁🤞🏼🥳

destiEos · 20/01/2022 09:44

@MrsTwentyNine I thought I felt things a couple of days in a row last week, but since then nothing. So hopefully just not very frisky this week - tomorrow is scan day so will keep myself calm til then.

MrsNT · 20/01/2022 09:53

@clomid1 ive bought a next to me for first 6 months. I will be getting moses basket for downstairs either one from my relative as a hand me down or my own (the 30 pound one from asda) im scared of taking someone elses incase baby ruins it with poop or vomit. Rather buy my own even if i get 2nd hand. So need to decide about thag

I had a full on baby brain moment this morning. When I log into my work laptop each morning , I have to type in a code . Ive been using the exact same code for over a yr and a half every day (well 5 days in a week) . I completely forgot it this morning. It was as if it slipped from my brain and just vanished. And then i ended up locking my laptop because I used up all the tries and had to call IT to fix it 😂

Congrats @Prema112 on your baby boy!x

So much to catch up on, never known such a busy thread! I wonder how many we'll have achieved come July?

I've had 3 weeks of no spotting only to wipe after the loo this morning to find browny/pink again. Feeling more anxious this time. Conveniently I have a scan tomorrow with my consultant, I'll be 17+5 tomorrow.
I don't know how I'll get through work today with this on my mind.
Any of you had random bleeds around this time??

PurpleMoon12 · 20/01/2022 10:37

Mattress topper update - massive success, no pain and no waking up from aching! (Tescos own - forever full)

Prema112 · 20/01/2022 10:45

@beansprout55 Oh I'm so sorry you're spotting again, it's not fair! That's great you have consultant tmw, if you're super worried maybe just go get checked today though, they do say go on for any bleeding. I haven't had any more bleeding but I still obsessively check every-time I go to the loo (except at night, I give myself a treat and don't turn the light on a night!)

Roxystar23 · 20/01/2022 10:56

Good Morning Everyone!
I hit the 20 weeks milestone today - myself and my partner can’t stop singing Bon Jovi “Oh we’re halfway there…” - however I’m terrified as it means half way towards labour! Haha!
I had my scan this morning - baby was mainly compliant but I had to do some hip thrusts and star jumps to get the baby to try and move their hands from their face so the sonographer could do their checks. It was very cute to then see them resting their hand on their cheek. We have the sex written down in an envelope and are now deciding what to do with it. I just keep saying to my partner that this little piece of paper is going to reveal if we are having a son or daughter. I can’t quite cope with this! I was also offered the whooping cough & flu vaccines while there so I’ve been double jabbed.

Matilda30 · 20/01/2022 11:13

@PurpleMoon12 I really need to invest in a mattress topper- is it thick?
