@fpeg the more you look at them, the more appealing they seem, it's bloody dangerous. I feel like Galadriel is actually quite a cool name!?! @PeeAche you're right it's the principle of mere exposure.

I knew it was time to switch apps when 'Wormtongue' popped up. Also they suggested Shadowfax and I started thinking I might have to get a horse just so it could be called Shadowfax. God knows where we'd keep it.

I do feel like my taste in a variety of things has changed a lot during pregnancy so what if I choose something and then don't like it when I'm no longer pregnant?? Such a pressure choosing a name!

PeeAche · 19/01/2022 12:07

@MrsNT I have bought all second hand but same principle applies - I have stocked up on 7 "newborn" all in ones (by the way, these are so tiny that looking at them literally makes my heart hurt) just in case they are small.

Otherwise I have just bought mostly 0-3 with about 1/3 of stuff 3-6.

So I have a range of sizes but mostly focused on 0-3.

I haven't seen the H&M stuff with my own eyes but I'd probably go with a small amount of 0-1, slightly more of the 1-2 and then the bulk at 2-4. It's a guessing game but they can wear stuff that's slightly too big. They only get bigger, not smaller and you'll be inundated with lots of gifts anyway.

H&M do amazing kids clothes - I've bought so much H&M for my step kids over the years. They do come up quite "skinny" though so I have decided not to bother for baby stuff. But that's based on my assumption that my baby won't be coming out long and thin because DH and I are not long and thin.

PeeAche · 19/01/2022 12:13

I have also decided that I will take 0-3 AND tiny newborn stuff in my hospital bag. The stuff is small and doesn't take up much room. I'm going to pack for both outcomes and disregard the measurements that the midwives give me at my final scans.

I had an elevated BMI at booking (although I don't have high BMI anymore) so they are already convinced my baby will be 3 stone and born with diabetes via C-section. There's no reasoning with them.

However, I have spoken to lots of women of all different sizes who say the measurements were WAY off and supposed tiny baby was actually huge / supposed huge baby was teeny tiny.

MrsNT · 19/01/2022 12:23

@peeache thanks for the tip. I think ill buy from asda tesco for new born and 0 to 3 and maybe a few cute outfits 2 to4 size from h&m. Their sizes are confusing me 😂plus im sure ill get lots as gifts so trying not to buy too many

@PeeAche my best friends baby was ‘small’ so they reckoned. He ended up being 9lb8oz and at 7 weeks is fitting into 3-6 months. 😳

Matilda30 · 19/01/2022 12:57

Last pregnancy they kept telling me I was measuring small, had shitloads of extra growth scans and scared me to death then I had a 7lb baby born at 39 weeks (elective section)- no issues whatsoever

Lostintranslatio · 19/01/2022 14:07

@Prema112 Congrats on your little boy 💙💙

I have 8 bodysuits on newborn size (pack of 3 from Aldi and pack of 5 from dunnes) and I wasn't planning on getting more, but they are so different!!!!!! Aldi ones are narrower and longer than the Dunnes bodysuits. So I don't really know if they will be of any use or not 🙄

InvisibleDragon · 19/01/2022 14:48

@destiEos I know what you mean about not being able to hear names objectively. DH loves the name "Shams" and didn't make the connection to the word "sham" until I told him. OTOH there was a name I liked which he vetoed because it was similar to a slang word for something smelly!

@AlbatrossSociety Wormtongue is terrible I agree but what about a little Grima? Grin

Northofthebordermum · 19/01/2022 15:11

Really reassuring to read about other people's gender disappointments -I think I'd secretly been hoping for a girl this time but actually when I found out it was a boy I couldn't keep the smile off my face. I think its nice for DS to have a brother (and maybe we'll have a third one day -although 3 boys would feel like a lot!)

Re clothes for the hospital - I stupidly only took ONE newborn babygro to the hospital. When DS came out at 9lb 2 he barely fit in it and then vomited all over it immediately. Had to send DH home for more! This time I'll be bringing a section of sizes and at leats 4 or 5 to keep me going.

PeeAche · 19/01/2022 15:18

My husband has very specific VERY awful taste in girls names. It's a sickness. And it's centred around girls names.

His daughter (my step daughter) is a wonderful little person but she has a freaky name that makes people sort of stare at us in an open mouthed fashion. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I can't say the name here because it's outing but it's like... let's say a giraffe sneezing.

He always says "her name is beautiful, isn't it?" And I've spent the last 8 years saying "yes dear" not realising that this lie would one day come back to bite me.

Anyway, I have put the kibosh on further discussions about names until after the gender becomes known to us at 20 week scan. There's very little point in us arguing over girl's names until we know for sure.

Vimto1991 · 19/01/2022 15:29

We know our gender (found out privately as a Christmas present to each other), but we aren’t planning to tell them that’s we know at the ultrasound so we get more time looking at the baby. 👀
It’s been really handing hearing what you’re all packing for the hospital. I only have a few newborn clothes. I’ve focused on 0-3, so I’ll take a few of each. :)

Lostintranslatio · 19/01/2022 15:37

I have always liked a girl's name and I thought that if I had a girl I would call her that. Now that it is going to be the name of our baby, but it feels so odd to me, it is like too real!!! 😅😅 So I keep calling her baby 😅😅😅

AlbatrossSociety · 19/01/2022 15:53

@InvisibleDragon I'm not sure it's better! I genuinely would rather name the baby Shadowfax - which was an option on the app by the way.

@Lostintranslatio I completely know what you mean. Some of our boys names I've had on my 'list' since I was about 8 years old and it feels absolutely surreal that it could actually be a baby's name come June! All the talk about what baby clothes to take to the hospital is also making it feel so real for me! I'm only just getting used to a bump.

I have a friend who is due 4th Feb and just can't imagine what it must be like to be that close to your due date.

Anyone else still trying to hide bump at work? I've told my manager and colleagues but I work with kids and haven't told them yet. I'm just waiting for them to ask why I'm getting fat but still trying to avoid clothes that highlight the bump. This means I'm living in a VERY limited work wardrobe.

Lostintranslatio · 19/01/2022 16:03

I'm working from home so I am still wearing my normal leggings (still small bump here). BTW I got some new Savida maternity jeans and I am pleasantly surprised. They are very soft and comfortable and fit pretty well.

PleaseSendNoodles · 19/01/2022 16:19

Has anyone else found out the sex but not telling anyone? I’m starting to feel a bit… sneaky. Some of my friends know I know but our families think we’re not finding out… 😬

On the baby clothes topic I’ve bought mostly 0-3 months. I’ve got about 6 sleepsuits in NB and a very limited number of second hand preemie things just in case. Just looking at them makes me want to cry. They’re so teeny tiny!

Prema112 · 19/01/2022 16:31

😂 I am loving this LOTR names chat! @fpeg
My DH actually pushed for Galadriel for a while, I'm not kidding. This is what I am up against, maybe it's a good thing he's a boy, he can be Shadowfax instead.

Honestly we dont have one single boy name.

Re. Hospital bag, I'd advise packing some tiny baby vests/grows. Our son was a week early and the newborn stuff completely swamped him, my sister had to do an emergency shopping trip!

fpeg · 19/01/2022 16:39

@Prema112 seriously contemplated not posting that in fear of offending someone 😬 if my dad were still alive he's probably be referring to our girl as "grotbag" from the windmill... which is what he used to call me 😂

Vimto1991 · 19/01/2022 16:43

@PleaseSendNoodles meeeee!! Because I hate gender specific clothes and I know MIL would buy purely pink or blue. She keeps asking is the baby pink or blue - neither. It’s a baby! 😂 I really like just plain neutral colours. Hardest thing is not slipping up!

RoseValleyRambles · 19/01/2022 16:57

I am trying hard to hold out on buying clothes yet, but you guys are giving me a great shopping list!

My ribs ache. Do anyone elses ribs ache? Today I had a lovely little squirmy flutter from the baby - enjoying this not much more than the first few months. Although, did I mention, my ribs ache?
Grin

destiEos · 19/01/2022 17:01

I'm tempted to buy the rose white snuzpod regardless of what gender the baby is ☺️ thought I was super open-minded and then considered whether I'd put a boy baby in a dress and didn't know 😮

destiEos · 19/01/2022 17:02

@RoseValleyRambles of thank God, me too! But usually Grimm lying curled up on my side on the sofa, feels ok if I stretch out. Assumed it was just me and lying down for too long!

destiEos · 19/01/2022 17:04

@RoseValleyRambles That was supposed to be "oh thank God"* and "but usually from*.." swipey keyboard input needs to be checked before posting!

Vimto1991 · 19/01/2022 17:13

Not my ribs by my hip is so sore! Lying on my side hasn’t been very comfortable so far. 😭 I periodically wake up on my back and have to roll over as well.

Lostintranslatio · 19/01/2022 17:24

@Vimto1991 I've noticed that too. All the time sleeping on my sides and my hips hurt a lot.

Vimto1991 · 19/01/2022 17:26

@Lostintranslatio yeah I’m thinking I need a new mattress but also not sure if this is just a downside of pregnancy! I have a pillow, but I move in my sleep 🙈
