I know you all love these ones! My daughter is due in February, and she is, so far, nameless. By this stage, ds had had his name for ages, but am finding a girl's name much more of a challenge. I want something reasonably distinctive, with some history to it, and perhaps a little glamour too.
Dh has sternly vetoed my first choice, Angelica. His favourite names are Frances and Olivia, which I like....but are they 'the one'.
Other names in the frame include Nina, Edith, Livia, Lucy, Elizabeth, Catherine, Phoebe, Mia and Viola.
Any more for any more?

I had lots of names planned for dd - we had erin, hannah, jasmine.... but she was born on Christmas Day and the doctors told dp she should be a Gabrielle after the Christmas Angel so it kind of stuck! It took me about a month to remember what her name was because it wasn't one I had spent months practising!!

Bouj · 10/11/2004 11:13

Oh and CD, I LOVE Louisa, so may have to steal that (other side of the world, so its okay!!) especially as Dh said he had a dream the other night that we had a daughter called Louisa, and I had never mentioned it to him! A sign, me thinks....

Bouj · 10/11/2004 11:16

Ha! Never thought of that!! We've only been here 6 weeks, and dh arrived last week - armed with Balamory, Thomas and Fimbles DVD's! I could handle Edie McCredie but not Ms Hooley, she does my head in!!!!

Angeliz · 10/11/2004 11:20

Some great ideas here. (i'm having a girl too)
I like the old lady names as someone said.

I like at the moment,

Madeline
Charlotte
Kaitlyn
Milly or Molly

am finding it really tuff to choose one that i LOVE!
DD is Alice and i want a nice elegant and cute sisiters name

Angeliz · 10/11/2004 11:21

OOOhh, i like Louisa or Louise too.

bakedpotato · 10/11/2004 11:22

nina and edith. gorgeous.

FionaJT · 10/11/2004 11:23

Going with old lady names, I'm planning on Josephine. And Natalie as a second name for a Xmas baby!

Angeliz · 10/11/2004 11:24

I LOVE Josephine

(Not for me though as is already in the family)

bundle · 10/11/2004 11:25

I know 2 baby Ninas. dh wanted Nancy for dd2, but I said no, although it's grown on me...Dora is nice too

sweetheart · 10/11/2004 11:26

There was a woman at dd's playgroup that had a son called Fin and a daughter called Florrie - I swear if she had another she'd call it POM!!!

bakedpotato · 10/11/2004 11:27

lockets -- i'm so freaked out! been scrolling through this and the other thread, and in your girl and boy lists, you've mentioned our top contenders!

zephyrcat · 10/11/2004 11:28

LOL sweetheart I am forever calling ds fimbo - drives me mad!!!!

Angeliz · 10/11/2004 11:35

bundle, i'd be tepted to say D D D D D Dora every time though

northstar · 10/11/2004 11:36

Actually Angeliz is a lovely name

listmaker · 10/11/2004 11:41

Let's spell Madeleine the French way - Madeline is American surely?!?!

Lexie short for Alexandra?

Maisie, Lydia, Matilda, Eva

Catbert · 10/11/2004 11:50

Well my DD is Madeline. She's not American. Yes. It's easier to spell!

Discomonkfish · 10/11/2004 11:52

some gorgeous names on here....I've been really stuck to find one but now have a list as long as my arm....thanks ladies....not sure about Edith though....I love the name but I always associate it with that annoying Edith Bowman

listmaker · 10/11/2004 12:30

My daughter is Madeleine but we have had all kinds of spellings! Every Madeleine I ever knew/heard of apart from the American book is with the three e's but each to their own I suppose!

nailpolish · 10/11/2004 12:33

lucy is nice from your list

my 2 dds are melanie and kirstie

Angeliz · 10/11/2004 12:33

thanks Northstar, you can use it for any future dd's of yours for a small annual fee +

aloha · 10/11/2004 14:50

I AM enjoying this thread! Though my 'short'list just keeps getting longer.
I also like Mimi, but unfortunately like it so much I called our cat Mimi! One person has suggested my own name, which I think would be a tad egotistical...
Think Cecily and ds's name together sound like very well behaved E Nesbit children, while Nina and ds's name sound like a 20s brother and sister detective team! So many names I liked. There were about three boys' names I liked so his was easy. Never thought Nina would be so popular!

What about Lila?
I have just thought of it and rather like it if bump is a dd!

i have a new little cousin Flora born yesterday and another, Lucie born earlier this year

my sister's baby boy due Apr would have been Catherine Mary Frances if a girl - i think Catherine is such a great name, also love Viola.

excited to see that Josephine is reappearing. locally we have a Persephone and a Christobel.

bakedpotato · 10/11/2004 20:00
